Enjoyed this place very much. I haven’t been happy eating anywhere here in Texas since moving here from Memphis, TN. but this place has impressed me and feed me a great meal on my birthday! #March24th

A good friend took me for lunch earlier in the week and the second I walked in the door I knew I was in heaven. I could smell the love of food in the air. A smile was on the face of everyone in the place. The food was well… simple and delicious. Service was delightful and everyone was so friendly. I’ve since been back five or eight times and recommend to everyone. They are building a new building next door — I hope they don’t lose their charm when they finally move into the new digs!

My goodness! We were there for lunch today and my husband said he had the best meatloaf he ever ate! I serve him meatloaf… Anyway, I had pork bones, mashed potatoes and cabbage. They must be the cooks for heaven because that food was heavenly. The Monday special is Oxtail and Thursday special is chicken and dressing. Although it was a hour’s drive for us, we will be back. Those folks are kind and friendly and the food is over the top. Can’t wait to go back.

When you pull up to a hole in the wall restaurant but the parking lot is packed that’s s good sign. Shannons was great. The meatloaf was amazing. The mashed potatoes were homemade and when the server put the gravy on them he added a few«scraps» of meatloaf. Go to Shannons!

I have ‘t tried each item, but I plan to. The side dishes taste just like home-cooking. I would bring my own drink to eat in or just pick up food and carry out for lunch(ate rest for dinner). Either way go to. San Jacinto street in Bryan TX and let Shannon make you plate after plate after plate.

For what it is, it’s awesome! Real tasty soul food, with great friendly staff. I had the beef tips over rice, with corn and green beans. It was awesome! And the banana pudding was so good, I had to order a second one :)

Pretty good Southern home cooking. Service is very friendly but a little spotty. I want to go on a Monday for the oxtail.

$ 7.55 for a plate(1 meat &2 sides + 2 corn breads). The chicken with mashed potatoes and corn on the cob were on point! Portions were a tad on the small side but it didn’t take long for the ITIS to kick in. I was almost sleeping halfway through the plate

Finally made it over to Shannon’s Café for lunch today as one of the final three restaurants in Bryan that my wife and I had yet to eat at. As many times as I have driven past this green building I had no idea it was a restaurant. You have to be looking for it if you don’t know it’s there. The foods are pre-cooked in a hot hold so there’s no wait time. You just walk up to the counter and the nice friendly staff will show you what they have, plate it up and you pay at the register, seat yourself and chow down. We had the meatloaf, smothered chicken, beans, mashed potatoes and cabbage. Plates came with two small cornbreads each. My wife and I were both very happy with our lunch, meatloaf and chicken were outstanding, better than I can make at home. The foods were to me almost exactly like what my Mom and Grandma make at times. The mashed potatoes were great, with some garlic in them. Everything was very fresh and at $ 7 per person we were full with just the proper amount of food. Shannon’s is a gem.

Shannon’s Café is off the beaten path but well worth it. Wanna feel at home, having breakfast with family? This is your spot. Pancakes as big a your plate! I will order them next time. Eggs and grits are the best. Country fried ham OMG? Wish I could have stayed for dinner. Cabbage and pinto beans… Food is great, eat what you get, not what you order!

Ate here with gf and her mother. Fried chicken was a bit salty. The rice couldn’t have been blander. Definitely tasted like minute rice. The beans tasted like they came from a can with added sweetener to it. The mashed potatoes had garlic in them, but again, had that non-homemade taste. Ordered peach cobbler and it was awful. It was a pastry covered in all spice and can peaches including all of the syrup from the can. No one was impressed. In addition, the service was pretty poor. One plus, the ice tea was decent. Overall none of us were impressed. Will never go back!

This was my first time trying chicken & waffles. Admittedly, it was only ONE waffle(even though the menu said«waffleS»). But, the combination was good, especially after I added some syrup to the waffle and some Louisiana Hot Sauce to the chicken! :) I’d try this place again, if I were in the area.

My hair stylist recommended this place to us. After trying it today we immediately fall in love with Shannon’s Café! I had beef tip, rice and greens. My husband had smothered pork chop, rice and sweet potato. Both dishes come with 2 cornbread. All of them are fantastic!

Umm, I’d say this is some of the best Texas soul/home cooking i’ve ever had. The outside of establishment isn’t that impressive. The employees were very welcoming, a guy in the back. woman at the cash register… southern hospitality. So they had an option of fried chicken, ribs, and beef steak with gravy. I got the beef steak with mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and greens. They serve with two cornbread rolls. Yum yum in the tum, flavorful home cooking! Also got some peach cobbler, so good! Took it for the road as I headed back to Austin. The employees told me, «you will be back» confident in their cooking abilities. They were right, I will go back! :)

Don’t let the exterior fool you, this place has some of the best southern soul food you can find in B/CS. My friend Kaleb told me about Shannon’s and so of course I visited for lunch this week with my roommate. We were first skeptical when we saw the shoddy nature of the building and front door, but once we opened it we found everyone awesomely friendly and welcoming. You can tell that most of the people there are regulars and it helps add to the charm. Now onto the food. ERMAHGERDTHEFOOD. I thought they had kidnapped my grandma and held her hostage in the back to make mashed potatoes and beef tips. You know the beef tips are good when they fall apart on your fork from the tenderness. Along with the beef tips and mashed potatoes I had cornbread and macaroni. Everything was very filling and delicious. Halfway through the meal my roommate commented that he felt like he was eating Thanksgiving dinner — he had roast chicken and stuffing. I tried it and it was equally as awesome. Make sure you get their sweet tea. It’s definitely sweet. Next time I will come by before 10:30 and get their breakfast. Chicken and Waffles? I feel like this place will completely dominate those from at Sully’s. Also the entrees apparently rotate daily so you’ll never know what awesomeness you’ll get.

This place is great, Justin V. did a good job explaining what it’s all about. The ambiance in here is really interesting. There’s mismatched tables and chairs, people laughing and having a good time and really, really good, simple food. It seems like this would be a little out of some people’s College Station comfort zone, but just go, enjoy their great food and have fun.
