This is a wonderful place with great food and people. I eat here close to weekly. I appreciate how involved with the community they are… The Village is part of the heart and soul of downtown Bryan. Now the bad: When they get busy food quality suffers. The portion sizes noticeably shrink and the food trends to be anywhere from lukewarm to cold — probably due to a lack of heart lamps, etc. The kitchen, at least the visible part, could use some investment. Workflow looks terrible. Also, I’m surprised they aren’t open in the early mornings for pre work coffee/breakfast. Seems like a missed opportunity. Back to the good: their food service is warm and friendly and I’ll keep coming here for sure. Just maybe not when it’s busy.

The only thing I would recommend getting is the TBA with raspberry spread. I will say it’s a great sandwich! But I ordered their chicken salad sandwich along with a side of slaw salad and it was awful. I ate one bite and didn’t finish any of my meal. I was very disappointed because the prices are a little ridiculous for what you get here! My order was two sandwiches(comes with a side) and it was $ 24.00, not to mention my meal was a disappointment. I have been a couple times but I never leave satisfied.

Love the atmosphere and the food is good. I am pleased that this is located in downtown Bryan and has a hipster(ie. non-student) feel. A little slow when it is busy however, or I would give it a five star.

Two of us had the Downtown Mocha which is a dark chocolate and orange latte. It had so much orange flavoring in it that it was BITTER and undrinkable. And yes, I have had it before and this is not what it is supposed to taste like. Too busy to deal with getting another drink.

Third time coming in here hoping it gets a little better every time. Alas it does not. Ordered a sandwich to go and it took them roughly 30 minutes to take, make, and give me my order while fine in guests were getting their food. A restaurant should be able to allocate their time appropriately to give priority to take out orders because a majority of take out orders need their order promptly. I was apologized to at the 20 minute mark by getting approached and getting asked«what did you order again?» This only shows me the incompetence of not even remembering my order but brings up the question, has it even been given to the kitchen? The staff always seem aloof and not really attentive. The actual food isn’t anything to write home about. Definitely needs improvement if they don’t want to remain mediocre.

I finally got around to trying The Village Café. The vibe feels more coffee shop than restaurant when you walk in(couches, people on laptops studying, etc). It’s in an older building downtown which is always cool. Staff was friendly. The TBA, turkey bacon avocado sandwich is where it’s at! Eat that first and just TRY to get something different next time. They have a nice selection of coffee drinks. My only gripe however is with the coffee. I ordered espresso. I was hoping for a cup of strong bitter coffee with a nice crema on top. My coffee arrived without the crema and seemed to be watered-down. I didn’t ask for a remake since the line of as to the door. I’ll definitely go back, although I may chose a different coffee.

Great selection of local and Texas beers. Delicious Chai and espresso. Great study place. Amazing art on the walls — for sale but expensive. If I had $ 800, I would probably buy that one.

I wanted to love this place — a lone hipster gem in a sea of conservative A&M students. The atmosphere is great — plenty of tables for singles of groups of any size. They have good coffee and give free refills. However, a few things turned me off. 1. They don’t honor the Unilocal check-in discount. I hope they remove it from their site because it’s misleading. Or tell employees about it so they let customers use it. 2. They don’t sell iced coffee. It’s ballz-hot in Texas and a hot cup of coffee on a 98 degree day just doesn’t do it for me. 3. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and it was so dry that the contents crumbled off my bread and I had to eat it with a fork. I put jam(from my friend’s toast) on the insides of my bread hoping it would help add some moisture to it. Surprisingly, that was pretty good! Still dry, but good! 4. I had a side of fruit and there was a long brown hair in it(my hair is blonde so it definitely was not mine). I’d love to have been at a show here. It seems like it’d be a cool place for it.

Great food, loose leaf tea, awesome staff, & art! Ah! I love it. Will defiantly be coming here again on my next visit to Texas. Also, I judge places on their bathrooms & theirs was super adorable along with spotless. Just an FYI both the ladies and men’s rooms have different art in them! Hehe

Excellent atmosphere, full-bodied foods with just the right amount of all the things, made fresh on the spot and per requests. Found on the Unilocal app as we were driving from Katy. Will visit again! Met with 3 generations and everyone was very happy with their choices.

Great little place for a meal any time of day. A previous reviewer called it «Hipster meets your mom’s living room»; I loved that. Today I had the breakfast standard of eggs and bacon… and the bacon was crispy! Bonus. The home fries were crisp and hot; the eggs were just the way I requested them: over medium. Dig on their other entrees while you do the wifi.

I had a light combo — you can choose two from a list of choices… of which two are soup and salad. I took a chance and tried the beer cheese soup. I recognize that it is well made and it was definitely delicious, it was just a bit on the rich side for what I was feeling that day. And the tomato basil is much better as a general rule. Caesar salad is of course just to die for. My friend had the blueberry waffle. I like how they’re mostly mixed into the batter instead of just thrown in — the waffle itself had a grainy hearty taste to it. And syrup and butter was delicious — which is important in my book. And hey — orange juice is fresh squeezed and apparently $ 5 for a glass?

So, my previous review had been based only on me coming here for Salsa nights. The other day I had brunch here and I really enjoyed it! This place has an interesting vibe — hipster meets mom’s living room. I really liked the brunch here and think they have a wide variety of options. I did appreciate their vegetarian friendly dishes as well. I ordered a garden burrito with a SOB Mocha. The garden burrito was pretty good and insanely large for brunch. It was stuffed with scrambled eggs, spinach, red peppers, onions, goat cheese, and avocado. My left overs were definitely more than enough for lunch. The only thing I wish they had done differently was put more seasoning on the roasted potatoes. They seemed a little bland for my taste. The South of the Border(SOB) mocha however was simply amazing. Yes, I normally take my coffee black.(I used to think Milk and Sugar used to spoil the taste of coffee). But this is one of those rare exceptions where I really appreciated their concoction. It’s a normal mocha blended with adobo sauce. I wasn’t sure how well the spice would go with the drink. But I definitely recommend it if you’re coming here.

Excellent BLT with turkey on a Hawaiian style bread bun with jalapeño and cheese. I got the fruit side. Excellent all around. They were promoting the local upcoming bra art event so the room has all of the entries up for the people choice voting. Live music scheduled for tonight.

This is by far BCS’s cutest café! I love coming here to hang out and talk over giant mugs of coffee. This place is ultra-local and has the chillest vibes. The food is decent to good, depending on what you get. I love the TBA and 100th Monkey, and their quiche is okay. This is a great spot for brunch! Their coffee is really good, but they do have some weird drinks that I wouldn’t recommend(looking at you, Dirty Coke). The atmosphere here is very art-house/hip. Inside the café, they have the 979 Gallery with various seasonal works of art for sale(usually awesome!). They also have a lot of local Texas beers, like Karbach and New Republic, and Messina Hof wines. Local music sometimes also. Definitely come check this place out if hanging out in coffee shops is your thing!

Gluten-Free bread available! Score! And half way thru meal he tells me they were out of it grrr. Next time gadget. Unilocal lead me to this spot by searching Gluten-Free, can’t believe I have missed it for so long. So was like bam, going here. Walk in, order, couches, wood, coffee shop feel, study area, kind of joint. Ordered a sandwich, forgot which one but chose Gluten-Free bread, and they do also have gluten-free pizza! Which my bread was this time since they were out of normal bread. It was good, and the sandwich as well. Awesome Coke’s from Mexico. Will be back. NOMNOMNOMNOM
