I was the manager over at the wonderful TLA Video in Bryn Mawr… chose our inventory and everything! No one is sadder to have seen it go, but I have started up my own shop over in Ardmore. We are called Viva Video, and have kept everything as similar to the TLA model as we could. You should come visit us at 16 W. Lancaster Ave!

TLA is the place. They have an incredible selection of videos including new releases, artsy films and old favorites. The staff is amazingly helpful, and they know their movies! It’s a shame that so few actual video stores exist, let’s keep TLA going. The monthly rental plans are a great deal and well worth it — no need to plan ahead and wait for a video to arrive in the mail. TLA has it ready for you. As previously mentioned, they also have great deals on used movies and posters.

FABULOUS resource. They always have old/obscure things when I need them for academic research but can also supply me with my favorite French horror films or just whatever new Judd Apatow movie has come out. The staff is knowledgeable, the price is fair, and the selection is the most impressive I have ever seen. Could not be more pleased. Edit: I must admit, in November 2011 they finally didn’t have a movie I needed. A Tamil film from 1998 called«Theeviravaathi: The Terrorist». Still pretty impressed, not removing a star.

I live in Glenolden, but due to lack of GOOD video stores in my area, I ventured out to Bryn Mawr. I had my fingers crossed that they would have a Criterion release on Blu-Ray that had just came out a few days prior. Chains like Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Borders, and FYE had absolutely no clue what movie I was talking about and told me to check back later. I walked into TLA and the movie was prominently displayed on their new release shelf. VICTORY! I also drooled over their other selections which was very impressive, I will definitely have to check back again in the near future! Great video store for real cinephiles.

I visited this place after the closing of the Philadelphia South Street location. Pretty nice store but really tight on the parking situation. Also, it’s easy to miss because the sign is tiny relative to the other stores in the plaza. There is a store for new and used DVDs as well as separate sections for documentary, foreign, children, etc. Overall, this is paradise for film lovers but a bit of a hike for those in the suburbs like me. Check their website for membership but it looks to be pretty much like NetFlix.

Looking for a dvd of something a bit obscure? Well then TLA is the place to head. Fantastic selection of mainstream, art house and foreign films and TV shows on dvd. Great pricing and service. Wish it were closer.

TLA is wonderful, and I still remember how exciting it was when it opened in Bryn Mawr. The selection is great – all the artsy and foreign films you could want, plus the latest blockbusters, and the prepaid rentals are a great deal. The staff is happy to make recommendations as well. There’s a branch or two in NYC as well, but nowhere near me, alas.

You all know and love TLA Video here in the city. we all appreciate the variety of movies that it has, how late it’s open until, especially for a rental store. and we also love the film festivals that it sponors. This place is more of the same. however, the suburbs generally makes these things a whole lot bigger.

Their ten dollar DVD bin is one of my favorite places in the world. It’s also the only way I could justify buying«Center Stage» and«Showgirls». Aside from letting me indulge my guilty pleasures, TLA has a great selection of new releases, international films, and TV shows on DVD. The staff is always super nice, even when I’m buying things like«Center Stage» and«Showgirls».
