I didn’t expect much from this restaurant at first, but as soon add I went inside I was delighted with the atmosphere. The wait staff was friendly and well mannered. Also, they’re actually Indians instead of white people and Mexicans, which adds to the authentic feel to the Indian restaurant. The buffet was quite good, they were a good variety of different types of curry and unlimited refills of chicken and Nan. If you love curry in general, then you’ll love this place. Dessert was decent as well, I am a fan of their mango ice cream Overall, I would definitely visit again and would recommend this place

food is so good, but they have the rudest customer service. Theres some guy, dont know his name, he just did not want to take coupon i got. He kept forcing me to order more and more stuff to accept the coupon, till i finally asked him to let me talk to the manager. That scared him and he let me go

Went for the dinner hour and used a coupon since I wanted to try the place out(I only buy one coupon per restaurant since they’re almost always small business owners). Note that if you purchase one of these coupons they’re NOT valid for the lunch time buffet if you’re looking to try that out sometime which i hear is small but good. The server brought out papadum(chips and salsa) as we sat down, which was nice to offer with their sauces but not the reason I go to Indian Restaurants. It was good but again, not the main event. For a table of three we started with two orders of vegetable samosas, which comes with two per order. They’re a good size, not the giant ones you get some places, and had great flavor with a nice background kick that was higher than most places. I paired it strictly with their imli ki chutney sauce(the red sweet one) and was more than satisfied with the overall taste. For our main courses we ordered the chicken tikka masala and the lamb do piaza to share. As other reviews have noted you have to order your rice and naan separately which is different but just note that you’ll want to order both to enjoy your meal. The chicken tikka masala had a great flavor, but what set it apart was how tender and juicy the chicken pieces were. The lamb do piaza was just as good, boneless, with a little more kick to the sauce than the chicken. The tandoori naan was above average, brought out fresh with our meal(just ask for more when you run out), and the basmati rice tasted exactly how it should. For dessert we had two orders of gulab jamun(4 balls total) and an order of their kheer(rice pudding) to pair together. The gulab jamun was great, but the kheer stole the show. The flavor was phenomenal, and it wasn’t watered down the least bit, definitely the best I’ve ever had. My only slight beef with our dessert was that they show a picture of six gulab jamun balls above the dessert section, which i thought would be our order, but in fact you get just two balls per order, so we had to place an additional order after receiving the first. So why four stars and not five you might ask??? Well, I think the entrees could have been a tad bigger but in reality it was a separate quarrel that made me drop a star. We were the only people in the entire place but unfortunately had to ask/wave to the staff to get them to come over and fill our water and fill up our naan basket. That’s the only thing that prevented me from giving The Swad five stars but I’m sorry, we were the only customers there not counting the carry out waiters. I definitely recommend this place and will be interested to stop in sometime for their $ 9.99 lunch buffet. Don’t forget they have carryout and delivery. Enjoy!!!

I believe I’ve found a hidden gem! And the best part is, it’s only 3 blocks away! I stopped by Swad of India tonight for the first time. I guess time just got away from me because I’ve been saying«we’ve got to try that place» for well over a year now. I was looking on Unilocal for delivery places, and Swad came up, and I though to myself: «tonight’s the night!». Went to their website and was happy to see that they offer online ordering! The website was pretty thorough and not only gave good explanations, but the selection was fabulous. I took my time looking for what I want. I had also gotten some great suggestions from Unilocal.I finally decided on: the Garlic Naan, an order of veggie samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala and an extra side of rice. I promptly threw-on my clothes and flippy-floppies and ran over to pick-up my order. Seems there’s a $ 35 minimum for delivery — which, in my opinion they should lowered in order to drive more business. I think the minimum delivery order for most pizza-joints is like $ 12, so I strongly suggest they reconsider their minimum. Upon entering, I quickly noticed there was only one group of people dining in. I walked up to the counter and was greeted by a super-friendly gentleman. My order was not quite ready, so I happily waited, as it gave me time to look around and snap some pics. The restaurant seemed very clean! Floors were clean, tables were all set. The entire front wall is all windows. It’s not huge, but it has a generous dining area. There’s also a set of buffet trays along the back wall, for the lunch-buffet they run. For the most part, prices seemed very fair. It seemed quite a bit cheaper than India House. My bill $ 20 and change. The only price complaint I had was $ 3.50 for an extra side of rice. Ummm, yeah, it’s just plain white rice — it probably cost 10 cents. I won’t complain though as the friendly man let me use a coupon. Now — let’s talk TASTE. I was so overwhelmed with flavors and deliciousness!!! EVERYTHING was GREAT! I have to start with my fave item, which was the Garlic Naan. Oh. My. God. Sooooooo delicious! My son and I were fighting over it, because there’s not a lot, and it was so good we both wanted more. Next time I know to order two! It was so soft in the middle and crunchy on the ends, and just the right amount of seasonings. Mmmmmmm… You definitely need to order the garlic naan. Next up is the Chicken Tikka Masala, which I’m pretty picky about, and this one was VERYGOOD. It was a smidge spicier than I’d expected, but the flavor was amazing and the color was spot-on. Veggie Samosas were also good. They had a different flavor than what I’m used to — maybe a different seasoning or spice, but still very good. Again, soft on the inside but crunchy on the outside. It was the traditional potato and peas. Swad of India has officially won me over, and I can’t tell you how excited I am to have this place in my backyard! This will easily become one of my regular carryout stops. I have to mention, though, that I’m worried about business. There doesn’t ever seem to be a lot of cars in the lot, and there was only one group dining-in when I went in. I really hope that they’ve got a great lunch-crowd to make up for it — because I want this place to succeed. So I really hope everyone runs over to try it, and let’s drum up a regular crowd for them :) If you’re in the neighborhood(or even if you’re not), I highly recommend Swad of India. Don’t let the odd name or quiet location sway you — the food here is AMAZING. I enjoyed every single bite of the 3 different things I tried. Thanks, Friendly Man Behind the Counter: I’ll be back!

I went to Swad of India for the first time to have lunch. The Pindi Masala was really really delicious. The goat curry was fantastic. The meat was tender and delecious. The chicken 65 was good. Their Tandori Chicken was superb. Everything at the buffet tasted like it was made to order, it does not taste like a buffet made for a thousand people. The food was all the proper temperature. Hot dishes were hot, cold dishes were cold. They did a very good job keeping things fresh. The«spicy» hot dishes actually had some heat to them. They did not water the flavor down. Their food is full flavor. So, the food, excellent excellent excellent. The service, well, they were a bit slow with the lunch service of refilling water and taking away plates. Overall, I am extremely pleased with my first Swad of India experience. I plan to return frequently for lunch, and, I plan to stop and pick up carry out from them on my way home to share their delicious food with my fiancé.

*** PLEASEAVOIDTHEPERSONJITUIFYOUCAN, THEOWNERSHOULDFIREHIMIFWEWANTSSOMEREPEATCUSTOMERS, HEHASMADE A MOCKERYOFCUSTOMERSERVICE *** This is a new Indian restaurant in the Buffalo Grove neighborhood so we were very excited to try out the food. The place is decent size for a small restaurant and ambiance is very acceptable if not great. The food is decent too — we ordered a starters platter that was decent and a welcome change to the closest competition India House. The Malai Kofta is very very good — finally somebody got it right. Panner Chilli was good and so was the tadka dal. The best is the Gulab Jamun — wowwwwww. the best Gulab Jamun I have had in USA. So overall I would give it a 3.5 star for food but thanks to the rudest possible staff member JITU I had to take a star off.

No, this is not the only Indian restaurant that has take-out from the buffet. It’s simply the only one that advertises it. All the other restaurant buffets also have carry out…

I decided to order in on a cold Friday night, and thought of Swad of India, based on a co-worker’s recommendation. Ordering food over the phone was a nightmare! I could not get the guy on the phone to get my address right, maybe he had trouble understanding. So I decided to order, and just go pick-up. I got the chana bhatoora and the baigan bhartha. Both the dishhes were good, but a little on the oily side, but delicious nevertheless. I may go back for another try.

LOVE this place! First off, its the closest zabiha/halal Indian restaurant in the BGs/Wheeling area. Lal Qila is also near but they are way over priced and sometimes come with an attitude. This place’s service and food are amazing. My husband and I have eaten here a few times already, dinner and lunch buffets. Both yummy! Stuff on their menu that we absolutely LOVE: malai kofta, keema naan, jeera rice, and masala chai. The lunch buffet also includes dosas. They have tvs in the restaurant too so its fun to catch on latest Indian movies and song while you dine. Highly recommend this place for everyone!

We ordered veggie samosas for an appetizer, against my wishes — I wasn’t feeling that hungry in the first place, so an appetizer seemed a little excessive. WHAT A FOOL I WAS. The samosas were excellent, and wrapped with probably the best samosa crust I’ve ever had, really flaky and delicious. My Chicken Tikka Masala was really rich and delicious, with a generous amount of chicken. My dude said the meat in his Chicken Do Piaza was some of the tenderest he’s ever had at an Indian restaurant! The naan was also pretty outstanding. I was a little put off that they charged for rice, but at least one order is plenty for two people. I got two rounds out of my leftovers, which isn’t too shabby! For two curries, two orders of naan, an order of rice, and two drinks, our bill amounted to about $ 40. Pretty standard for Indian around here. I am happy to report that we will be back — coupon or no coupon. (Minus one star because they packed one of our leftovers in a styrofoam container with the rice. Guys, styrofoam is not an appropriate storage vessel for curry. Come on now.)

This restaurant is honestly not bad, but I cannot say it is the best Indian restaurant in the area especially considering all the options out there. Overall, the restaurant was clean, and its location is pretty convenient. The food here is very average, and there was nothing that really stood out. I would go so far to say that the food was a bit on the bland side though it was not bad by any stretch of the imagination. The service was average though I cannot say the staff was very attentive. In short, while I would not say that this is a place to avoid, this restaurant is not a place to which I would go out of my way at which to eat. It has very average food with adequete service, and it does not stand out in a crowded field of Indian restaurants in the area that do offer a superior product and service.

This is a pleasant place with a menu fairly typical of Midwestern Indian restaurants. We had the Tandoori Mix and the Lamb Vindaloo. They were both pretty good, with the Vindaloo a bit on the mild side for this type of dish. The Lamb serving was on the small side, with only about 4 –5 cubes of meat, the rest potatoes. We started with the Vegetable Samosas, which were good but bland. The condiments on the table help a bit. The Garlic Naan is fantastic, though — a «Must Have». Rice is a pricey option(oddly common in Indian places) staring at $ 3.50 for a modest bowl. Service was pleasant after a slow start, on a Saturday Night. There is one REALCAUTION: The menu warns of a bevy of possible ingredients that may be present, including MSG. When questioned, we were told that the items we ordered did NOT have MSG. However my wife had a serious reaction(Migraine) that says otherwise. This is a deal killer for us, unfortunately, so be advised.

went there for lunch buffet with two friends. food was just ok, like typical 10-dollars-for-lunch-buffet indian restaurants. nothing stood out in food. — as per both of my friend’s opinions, chicken in chicken curry(forgot name) was not tender, it was ‘half-cooked’ they said. — gulab jamun(brown balls sweet) was overly sweet. — dal makhni and two veg curries were ok, acceptable levels. — their Unilocal deal did not exclude usage for buffet. but lady at restaurant declined to accept. only after some persistence from me, did they accept 20for30 coupon. no, i wont go there. would rather pay 2⁄3 dollars more at buffalo grove india house that is nearby.

I came here because I found Swad on Groupon. At the time the ratings were so so on Unilocal, but I figured it was close to home so I should check it out. The layout and ambiance were pretty nice. It was cool that they had Indian television playing and a little girl dancing while her family ate was super cute. My biggest complaint was the service. It was really slow. There were a couple times when our waitress disappeared for a while. I knew this was going to be a problem from the beginning. She immediately asked us what we wanted to order. I asked for one minute. She went back into the kitchen for a while, then came out and was hanging out at the register. It took a while to get her attention. After we ordered it seemed to take a while before the food came out. It also took a long time to get the check and pay for it. Maybe I just came on an off night. The food was pretty good, but I thought it was a bit expensive. I am used to paying extra for naan, but having to order a side of rice was different for me. Overall, the food was pretty good though!

«Swad» means«Taste» in Hindi. The term taste is very appropriate for the offerings at Buffalo Grove’s newest Indian restaurant. There are glimpses of Indian culture in every corner of the red-carpeted restaurant; The quaint dining room, the Cricket playing on the TV’s, the various details in décor and of course, the family running the place make it a very authentic experience. The lunch buffet is a bit small, and feels tucked away in the back corner of the room. The servers will take your drink order, and bring you fresh naan, but since it’s a buffet, you will be choosing your food. Get a little of everything, and try something new, or someone’s take on something you already know. The buffet had tandoori chicken, samosas, a few curries, some vegetarian dishes, a daal dish, and even goat. I also tried something I’ve never seen before, and can’t remember the name, but it was a sweet, carrot and ginger dish, almost like a coarse purée. The flavor was nice, although twice I bit into a whole chunk of raw ginger. The ginger really makes it difficult to taste anything different for a few minutes, and left a less than wonderful taste in my mouth. The other food was good though, especially the tandoori chicken. The naan was a little underdone and doughy in the middle, but I imagine it was just the piece I had, because other baskets coming out looked better. I’m eager to come back to Swad of India for dinner, and sample some new tastes of the menu.

This is my first review on Unilocal!I’ve honestly never felt the desire to waste my time writing about restaurants before. But since this place was so good, and so empty(just opened a few weeks ago)…I decided to give it a shot. I went there last night for the first time and am still amazed by how much I liked the food. I’m pretty new to the world of Indian food, so I may not be the best person to review Indian food in general… BUT, this place definitely passed my taste test. We had: Vegetable Samosas(mostly mashed potatoes and peas, wrapped in dough and fried — they are very good, and quite spicy, and I would definitely get them again) Chicken Malai Kabab(extremely soft chicken, comes out sizzling, very tasty) Chicken Vindaloo(item was listed as spicy on the menu, but was actually less spicy than the samosas which weren’t labeled spicy — this is very soft chicken breast in a red sauce, and delicious) Tandoori Naan(next time we will probably get a flavor because there wasn’t enough sauce that came with our meal for dipping) Since this place just opened, you can tell that everyone was trying to be EXTRA friendly. Hopefully this doesn’t change. My only real hesitation about this place are the prices… they may be a bit high for the amount of food that you get. But at the end of the day, I would rather pay a little more for better quality food. Overall, I would definitely recommend trying this place.

The service is friendly, the surroundings are pleasant, and the food is very good. I’ve been there twice for lunch and the buffet, which has different dishes every day, is on the smaller side but everything is delicious. The tandoori chicken has never been overdone and although I don’t know the names of some of the other dishes everything has been really good. At $ 9.99 it seems like a great value. Give them a try. They are eager to please and take great pride in making your experience a good one. Also, for those on lunch hour you can be in and out quickly.

We were lucky enough to be at Swad of India the day they opened. We are huge afficianados of Indian food, and we were excited that a new restaurant was opening so close to our house. They already had won kudos by me for having menus available by their door, clear signage as to when they were opening and a functioning website. So we were set to try it out. It has been a long time since we have tasted Indian food this delicious. It was clear that the recipes were family recipes and that they were accustomed to cooking real Indian food as opposed to the fast-food version of it. Everything was spiced just to perfection — just spicy enough to make you pay attention, but not over the line so that you didn’t taste every nuance of the delicious flavor. I had paneer makhani — which was not on the menu, but they graciously adapted for me and my husband(on the menu it’s served with chicken, but we love paneer). It was simply devine. My 2-year-old daughter(who is pretty picky when it comes to what she eats) enjoyed the Paneer Masala. She not only enjoyed every bite, but she started to eat ours too. This was a first! Even my 10-month-old son enjoyed the Aloo Tiki — which was flavorful enough to hold his attention, but bland enough for him to tolerate it. My husband and I also shared samosas, which were surprisingly — and delightfully — zippy(yum for authenticity!). The only disappointment was a donut-shaped appetizer(I have no idea what it’s called) that my husband ordered thinking it was something else. It was fried and greasy and bland and the only disappointment, but the coconut chutney that came with it was terrific. The service was great, and was lacking the frenzy I would have expected on opening night. Everyone was attentive and totally on top of everything, and the servers couldn’t have been nicer. We have told a number of people about this place already. Great food + great service + a great menu + a great experience = great word of mouth, Please visit them!
