I wanted to see what was the hype all about. I came here yesterday afternoon and it was empty. There was no greeting to seat us, so just seated ourselves. The server seen us quickly and I was impression. The chips and salsa was really good and The margarita was really strong! I order 2 soft taco chicken and beef and they were descent. Overall, the serves was good and I’ll come back again

Small Mexican restaurant and bar. Always enjoy the food, and portions are really big. Great location on Elmwood avenue close to many other bars and restaurants. House Margaritas are delicious, and strong! However, I do wish they had more than one flavor for the margaritas. Service always fast and courteous. Great vegetarian options.

Agave is super yummy. First of all, $ 5 house margaritas during happy hour. Yes. Although, if you get it flavored, be prepared to pay an extra 46 cents… bizarre. I’ve never come here and had to wait to be seated, which I appreciate because I am both impatient and antsy in life. There was one guy working(serving & behind the bar) but it was 4:00 in the afternoon, so that’s understandable. Actually no, that’s a normal dinner time now that I say that out loud, so it was weird. Oh well. I ordered the quesadilla roja(I sounded all Spanish when I said roja and I felt super proud and he was impressed I could tell). It was delish! I don’t like rice, so I could’ve done without the half plate of rice, yuck. The raspberry margarita I had frozen and it was so good, a little bit tart but mostly sweet. The waiter was friendly and the atmosphere was clean and fun. Service was quick! Great go-to for sit down Mexican. X’s and O’s! J

Let me first say that I’m not a huge fan of Mexican food, so consider this when reading my review. The restaurant is cute and well put together considering the amount of space they have to work with. The staff was very friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. The menu was surprisingly extensive and even had some options for veggie lovers! My friend ordered the chicken fajita and raved about it. I’m a big fan of tamales, but wanted to try a variety of things, so I opted for the combo plate of a tamale, tostada, and stuffed poblano. The poblano was spot on and the tostada was delicious. Everything made with very fresh ingredients. However, the tamale left me very disappointed. A bit dry and light on the pork filling. All in all a good meal though. This place is a very nice addition to this section of Elmwood ave.

Heads ups, never had the food. But, the bartenders are great. Best mixers in Buffalo.

Stopped in for a last minute lunch before I head back to Houston. Awesome customer service, kind of a small spot but the food makes up for it. Happy I found this little gem!

I’ve been here a few times since it’s opened and I’ve always left full and happy. The location is extremely small but it’s one of the only(if not the only) Mexican options available in the heart of Elmwood. The menu is exactly the same as their other restaurant Don Tequila but for some reason I feel like the food is not on the same par. They’ve messed up our order on a few occasions but are so nice and willing to fix it/offer free queso that it’s really a non issue. The homemade salsa is awesome, house margaritas on the rocks are delicious, you can’t go wrong with the enchiladas or one of the house specials. There’s few bar specials but the drinks are reasonably priced and the bar is small so it’s better to come in a small group or for date night. They do have take-out so even if you don’t feel like making a night of it, order some food at the bar and sip a margarita while you wait!

I absolutely love Mexican food but have only found one place in Buffalo with good food. I was excited to try this place out after I heard a few recommendations. As part of a ladies night out, myself and two friends ventured here for dinner on a Saturday night. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. To my dismay, I opened the menu and it was EXACTLY the same menu from Don Tequila’s in Allentown. I am not a fan of the food or service at that establishment, so I was quite disappointed. But I decided to stay in hopes that maybe its owned by the same people but service and food will be better. WRONG! Service was ok but the food was disappointing. I ordered a combo meal which included a burrito, taco, and beans and rice. I also ordered an additional side of guacamole and sour cream. My friends both ordered quesadillas. All of our food was cold and salty. The plates were piping hot, but the meal itself, was between warm and cold. We didn’t finish our meals, just paid and left(very inexpensive by the way). We will not be returning and I hope the owners will consider revamping the menu just to distinguish themselves a bit more.

Decent local«Mexican» food. Your usual simple quesadillas and assortment of Burritos and enchiladas, etc. The bar is completely stocked and has a great frozen margarita! It is right in the Elmwood Village which makes it an amazing spot, too. Overall, it’ll do in a pinch for«mexican» food but it isn’t terribly special.

Recently had a not so great experience at Agave which was upsetting because the food here is usually very consistent as is the service. There were three of us dining after a tough Bills loss and we were starving. We were greeted with a big basket of chips and spicy salsa that we inhaled and also put in an order of guacamole right away. The guacamole usually comes out instantaneously; usually by the time I finish saying«mole» it is already on the table. This time the guacamole took forever. We went through two baskets of chips before it came out. The person refilling our chip basket was great but we didn’t know why the guac was taking so long. Finally after placing our food orders it came out and was so disappointing. The avocado tasted old, pretty sure they were rotten or something because I couldn’t eat more than two bites. It tasted extremely salty which no peppery flavor or heat whatsoever. I have had guacamole here often and this was a bad batch. A really bad batch. The food came out VERY quickly and we were missing a side of rice. When we brought it to the server’s attention he immediately ran to the kitchen and came out with an order for us, not a big deal. I was disappointing by the chicken and shrimp fajitas. There was a red tomato salsa all over the top of my fajitas that had never been there before and the flavor was so bland. Usually I crave the fajitas here but something was off. The shrimp on the shrimp fajitas tasted like they had been sitting in butter for hours. All I tasted was melted butter, it wasn’t good. Overall the service was fine but something was up with the food. It didn’t sit very well with us afterwards either. Ugh.

Went to Agave for the second time last night, and was very impressed once again! The service was phenomenal. Was offered a refill on chips before we were even quite done with the first batch, and our server was very attentive the whole evening, despite it being a busy Saturday night. The food is some of my favorite Mexican I’ve had in Buffalo. Between my two times eating there, I’ve had the quesadilla, enchilada, burrito, and tamales(combo meals, I promise I’m not that much of a glutton.) All of the food I’ve had has been quite tasty! Additionally, the beer is very well priced, as I got a 24 oz. Pacifico for less than $ 4. That’s really a great deal. So overall, I would recommend Agave to anyone! It’s a fun little Mexican restaurant with a fun interior, great service, good prices, and great food. The total package!

Nice little place with bright interiors. It was a tad bit loud, but we were sitting close to the bar area. Any place with a section dedicated to vegetarian options makes me happy. So, full points for that & for making it yummy as well. The menu also had a section defining each of the entrees(for those of who don’t understand espanol). I got the Vegetarian quesadilla & it was loaded with veggies, with rice, pico de gallo & guac on the side. The cheese inside was just the right amount too… it did not ooze out & overpower the actual taste. I also tried the House margarita on rocks… Mmmm Wow. ;) We loved it. Will have to go back for more: D

Agave is my new favorite Mexican restaurant. I’ve tried plenty in Buffalo. I always order the cheese dip as an appetizer. The best part about Agave’s cheese dip is the size! It is very big! This automatically wins me over because I could literally drink it. :) The dip is also delicious. Some can be a tad too spicy for my liking and I think Agave has it done perfectly! My go to dinner choice is usually the jumbo beef burrito. This is 100% now my favorite place for it! The burrito has the tasty cheese dip drizzled over it! What could be better than that? I also ordered an extra side of sour cream and was again extremely pleased with the size! Some places skimp on the sour cream. Not Agave! Agave has complimentary chips and salsa. You could easily fill up on that! Both the chips and salsa are so yummy!

This place is my go-to for Mexican food in Buffalo. I absolutely love the Fajitas Tejanas: chicken, steak, and shrimp fajitas. The sizzling platter is cooked with peppers, onions, and tomatoes and is served with a side of tortillas, rice, refried beans with cheese, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream. It is so much food that there’s bound to be leftovers even if you are sharing with someone else. It tastes delicious and fresh – totally worth it! I’ve tried an assortment of other foods including the Chicken Quesadilla appetizer and carnitas dinner. I enjoy the savory flavor of the meats, but prefer to have more of a vegetable variety with my meals. The drink menu is standard for a Mexican place, but has good options. The margaritas are sweet and the beer list includes local offerings. The service is great. The servers are polite and prompt; I’ve never been kept waiting too long. I also enjoy that food can be ordered to go, which is nice when I’m too hungry to wait for a table. I dock one star only because I don’t believe iceberg and tomatoes constitute a salad – I wish the menu was edited to have a less cluttered format, more offerings with vegetables, and way less options. There aren’t many places that remind me of living in Texas, this place makes me miss San Antonio! PS: if you want«authentic» food then know what to order. The menu includes a range of food designed to please the masses as well as authentic food. Mexican cuisine is very diverse and has quite the range.

We came here on Friday night for dinner and drinks. First thing to notice is the restaurant is very small and it feels pretty cramped inside. Wait times during peek hours easily reach a half hour and available bar space is extremely limited so be sure to call ahead. I’m not sure if they have reservations but it’d be worth it to check. Margaritas: Great strong lime margaritas. 2 of these will get you the nice feeling you want. Ladies they also have strawberry margaritas and my date raved about how good hers was. Dinner: took a little long to come out. We thought they forgot about us for a few minutes but it eventually came. Chips and salsa come free. We ordered a side queso but they never delivered it to us. Food was good! Classic real Mexican food. Tasted great filled us up and was affordably priced. $ 15 on alcohol and $ 22 on food. This is one of those places that I will return to but never again during peak hours.

I came here with a couple of friends for tacos and margaritas. It was just a quick visit. But the staff was very friendly and the services was quick. Within a couple of minutes of sitting we had chips and salsa on our table. I had the soft shell beef tacos, they were simple but good. Everybody had a margarita and from their comments it sounded like it was all margarita mix with tequila. Not my kind of margarita. I can see myself visiting this place again. Specially for a tasty, quick cheap taco.

Agave is, hands down, my favorite place for Mexican food. In Buffalo, Mexican food is not hard to come by. From the Food trucks, corporate franchises, and fast food places you’re never hard pressed to find a burrito or taco on the cheap and easy. That’s not why you come here. You come here because when you get a burrito, it’s no nonsense, it’s delicious, it requires eating with a knife and fork, and doesn’t come wrapped in foil. They look to feed you here. You get complimentary warm tortilla chips with salsa the moment you sit down and they keep it coming until you leave. The portions are HUGE. So, come hungry. What I like best is that their menu even has a glossary so those unfamiliar with Mexican fare can figure out their fajitas from their quesadillas. Legitimate, unique, margaritas are found here and there’s nigh a margarita mix in sight. Their bar is fully stocked and their prices are reasonable. Come here for happy hour and get full on delicious drinks and food. And you can even brush up on your Spanish here. One well pronounced«Quesadilla Rellena» and our waiter turned the Spanish 101 on and the rest of the night he, playfully, only spoke in Spanish to me(and, thankfully, English for my compadre).

My Order: Chicken Taco Salad(I initially liked it… but AVOID!), Jalepeno Poppers(mediocre), Pozole(meh). UPDATE: HADTOBUMPMY3-STAR RATINGTO A 1. I got food poisoning for the first time and couldn’t stomach anything for two days. I have this establishment to blame. PROS + our waiter was friendly and timely + I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved my salad. The chicken was hidden under the salad with hearty spoonfuls of sour cream and guac. + I would’ve loved to indulge in their $ 5 margaritas but it was a Sunday that I dined here… :( + reasonable prices(I paid $ 13 for an app and an entrée) CONS — off-street parking which may be horrendous depending on the day/time — being greeted by a hostess whom was nearly always on her phone was both unprofessional and mildly off-putting. I’m not expecting top notch service but… can the facebooking really not wait? — the jalepeno poppers weren’t the slightest bit spicy. very mild, catering to the consumer who can’t handle spicy foods. — the pozole was not impressive. Our waiter, however, was very attentive and helpful. He quickly offered to split the bill for my friend & I and was all smiles throughout our time there.

I’ve been wanting to try Agave for a while and I finally took the plunge with my best friend. I found out before we went that the owner also owns Don Tequila’s on Allen St. I was saddened due to my lackluster experiences there before, but nonetheless I still decided to try the places out. I’m a firm believer on second chances. We were sat immediately. Our table was small, then again the space isn’t very large, at least from what I saw of the place. We were in the front by the windows. It was mid December and every time the door opened, it seemed like the wind blew right on us, therefore making it a cold dinner. The bar was stocked but not overwhelming. Our waiter was kind and offered us margaritas, we declined but promptly brought us our drinks. A plate of chips and salsa were placed on the table(with extra salsa). It was better than what I had at Don Tequilas. Spicy but not burn your mouth hot. We ordered, enjoyed some conversation and our food arrived. My meal included two chicken enchiladas, a soft chicken taco and mexican rice, all seasoned and tasty. My friend got a fajita platter which came with 3 tortilla shells, mounds of onions, peppers and chicken on a sizzling plate along with rice and beans. She said she loved it and had leftovers for two days. Prices were very reasonable, and very comparable to Don Tequilas and other Mexican eateries.

I absolutely loved this visit! It was a Sunday afternoon and not crowded at all. The restaurant is pretty small, but for my first visit that wasn’t a problem. In fact, while my husband and I were there, 3 tables of 1 came in for lunch. That’s definitely the sign of a good place! The menu looks pretty much exactly like Don Tequila’s in Allentown, which is fantastic. I was in a rare mood for nachos, so that’s exactly what I got: Nachos with beans. They were incredible: the cheese was delicious, the beans were flavorful, and the chips were fresh. My husband got the Nachos Grande and loved it. In fact, I wish that I had gone with it and just asked them to hold the meat. I’ll certainly be back. Their vegetarian selection is plentiful and their lunch menu looks fantastic. I’m a fan, and can’t wait to go back!
