I am a big proponent of shopping local and decided to do some of my Christmas shopping here this year. Selection was mediocre… they do have nicer selection of Mountain Hardware, Patagonia, Marmot type jackets and coats than Dick’s, but would love for it to be bigger! There is a consignment section which I found to be lacking in quality and way overpriced. The reason for my lack of stars is actually their return policy. The jacket I was returning was bought less than a month ago and all I could get for it is store credit, with barely an apology. I’m sorry, but this doesn’t help the cause for ‘shopping local’. I would rather buy online with free two day shipping from Moosejaw and easy, hassle-free returns! I can’t understand the reasoning behind it(must be a policy for a reason) but it made me very disappointed with my decision to buy here. Not to mention the bit of attitude that met my incredulity. I can understand why stores don’t allow returns after 30+ days or without a receipt, but I was well within the 30 day time frame and had my receipt. Store credit is just an insurance policy to force us to spend that $ 120 at your store instead of going somewhere else. I don’t like that. Also, I would hope that management would be sure to tell staff to specify this policy better, especially when you know someone is buying a gift for someone! I would have thought twice about purchasing it because I knew I was taking a chance that it would fit. The sign is hidden behind the counter and not legitimate looking –I never noticed it when I was purchasing the item. On a positive note, my experience buying the jacket was very pleasant. Both cashiers working at the time were friendly and helpful and I held an enjoyable conversation with them. I would normally say I may not come back here, but seeing as I have a card with $ 120 on it that can only be spent at this store, I will have to find something to buy…

This is a nice store, but it takes me 25 minutes and a couple bucks in gas to get there. Double that for a round-trip & of course, there’s parking to pay for. So when a friend gave me a nice but too-small fleece with a gift receipt for Christmas, I was careful to go to the Buffalo Fleece website to check hours before I returned it. The website said 10am til something every day but Sunday. So I finally broke the time free this weekday morning & set out at 10am. Got down there, parked(warning — the parking meters don’t add minutes on when you add coins; you have to cancel out the unused minutes before you add your coins. Jerks.), climbed up the stairs just a little after 10:30. And lo, the sign on the door said they don’t open until 11. There’s no way I’m going to have the time to make it back there for several weeks, so someone at Goodwill is going to be really happy with this fleece! All I have to do is figure out how to tell my friend not to shop there for me any more without admitting that I had to throw out the nice top she picked out for me… Sigh.

As a basic white girl I love boots and leggings. Since this place is on my daily coffee route I stop in fairly often and this store almost always has something I can’t leave without. The prices run between 25% less and 25% more than for the same item online which is fair since you get to try the shoes and clothing on and don’t have to deal with shipping. The selection isn’t huge but there is a good variety of brands and styles for skiing, hiking, yoga etc. .. Best time to shop there is between seasons for discounts(especially on boots.) Also, excellent Dansko selection!

I can’t believe I’ve lived in Buffalo for three years without stopping in here. Perhaps because I never had the funds, but with some careful saving I was finally able to save up for a winter jacket. I’ve been in a thin spring/fall coat; I don’t know how I’ve survived! O_O The quality of these coats and shoes are amazing. You will be warm! I actually purchased a thin-looking jacket that deceivingly does not look warm at all, but it has 600-count down. As soon as I put it on in the store, I felt hot. It was insane! They also have shoes/boots, which are waterproof, insulated, and have warm pads inside. Holy cow, are they hot! There is no reason your feet won’t be toasty inside. The customer service is also friendly and professional. They have a lot of different types of jackets and shoes, but the young gentleman behind the counter could tell me which ones were the best quality and was very helpful. They also have a nice selection of gloves and hats. I purchased a pair of gloves which work for touch-screen/touch-pad devices. No more having to take off my gloves to take a picture with my phone. ;) They also had really cool looking toe shoes. There was this one pair that had laces and a wild-looking design. They definitely weren’t for me, but they looked really cool. Overall, I’m a big fan. I’ll definitely be coming here at least once a year for my next big investment in warm clothing. Other Unilocalers talk about the prices being high, but for warmth and high quality, their products are well worth the price. You don’t know what kind of service or quality of merchandise you’re getting from a faceless online warehouse giant. I’d much rather enjoy this nice little shop on Elmwood.

On our rounds, we also stopped in this shop. Ever since I had a bad case of plantar fasciitis a few years ago I can only wear good quality shoes with arch support. Keen, most Merrells, Danskos, etc are necessities for my achin’ dogs. This shop has all of these brands but I’ve never seen any discounts or sales. Though I’m all for supporting local business I don’t see how they stay open. This place has expensive goods! If you’re thinking along the lines of supporting local business, give these kinds of places your dough. If you’re thinking of saving yourself some big American boffos so you can buy 2 pair of shoes for the price of one here, try things on for size and go to for much better deals! Overall I like the stuff in this store but I’m not a big spender, love a coupon or a percent off, and just can’t bear the damage to my wallet. So I will browse but I probably won’t buy.

Great selection of high quality clothes that help to stave off the winter cold while one can maintain a sense of style.
