Amazing. Cannot believe my delicious fish taco came out of a food truck! The fiesta fish taco was really a wrap, but who cares. Fresh black beans and corn, charred(grilled) tilapia with a delicious sauce. I will be craving this for weeks!

I tried a co-worker’s fried shrimp today… AMAZING. I thought Pandora’s Sports Bar had the best shrimp in the city… Flaming Fish is a tough competitor.

Just like the joyful fisherman standing on the dock displaying his trophy trout he had just snagged, I too had just been swarmed by hoards of people looking to shake my hand and take a picture with me. No, I didn’t need to spend hours out on the lake tirelessly drinking beer and casting countless times to hook my beautiful catch, I simply took a walk to Niagara Square, got in line at The Flaming Fish food truck and reeled in their Fish Hoagie($ 10). When I got back to the office, I paraded my fish sandwich around the floor proudly while all my envious coworkers accosted me and said. «Jim B, you’re the best!», «Jim B, you’re so cool polar bears need to wear sweaters around you», & «Man, I wish I could be like Jim B». Afterwards, they all broke out in a theatrical song/dance combo to commemorate my great accomplishment and pay homage to the man that fished up one hell of a fish sandwich. Can you blame them? This hoagie was just superb. The fish was fried to a crispy, golden brown — a Buffalonian food staple — and served with fried red peppers and onions, melted cheese and a «special sauce» consisting of, and I’m assuming here, cumin and mustard seed amongst other flavorful ingredients. A little on the spicy side, this fish is one that will bite you back a bit. Don’t be surprised when you see my face on the cover of Field & Stream next month…

Whoa — discovering this truck was a major highlight of my week! I wandered up to Niagara Square on my lunch break this past Thursday. I had not yet heard of this truck. «A fish truck?!» I exclaimed with glee as I approached. I had been quite impatiently waiting to find the fish taco back on the menu at Llyod’s. I was SUPER excited. There were 10ish choices including Haddock, Tilapia, or shrimp. I chose the all-in taco with Haddock(your choice of fish). It contained the filet with hot sauce, french fries and cold slaw, over-filling a delicious, warm flat bread. I added tarter sauce. The batter on the fish had a slight kick to it-perfect; nothing overwhelming. This was SO good and a very filling portion for $ 9; totally made my day. However, here’s a TIP: ask for a fork. I had to go back for one because it’s a little messy and some of the tastiness was falling out. I got back to work and began telling folks who did not share my enthusiasm. «I don’t like seafood,» was the response. OK, fair enough. They don’t have something for everyone but that’s just fine, less people ahead of me in line. :)

I’ve been wanting to visit The Flaming Fish for a while, after having a few near misses where I couldn’t find them. Finally, they rolled into a nearby office park today, and I was able to give it a try! Now, I am feeling a little bit under the weather today. I think I’m getting another stupid cold. When I’m feeling like crap, I crave fried food. And boy, did the Flaming Fish deliver! They have a cornmeal crusted haddock fish fry, which included a good chunk of fish, fries, a roll and coleslaw. A nice little slice of lemon was tucked in there as well. I squirted some of their hot sauce on and trundled back to work. I was stopped about every 5 feet from my car to my desk with curious coworkers asking me, «What smells so good? Where did you get *that*? How much was it?» It did smell good, and it tasted great. Nice and hot and crispy, even with my little trip back from where they were parked to the office. The hot sauce and lemon cut the fattiness of the deep fry. There was plenty of food — for $ 10,(as of this review of course,) you’re gonna have a satisfying lunch for sure. It helped fill my craving for comfort food, and the owners are great. They recognized me from twitter, which was a little embarrassing, but also flattering. If you see these guys around town, give ‘em a try!
