Valu may have everything you need, but the customer service. I went to Valu one morning recently, and when I saw the store hours as «8:00 a.m. to 10:00 pm», I walked through the open doors in search of some lightbulbs. The clerk was extremely busy reading the morning paper at the counter of this bustling empty store, and gave me what my grandmother used to call a «queer look». Something was the matter on his end, but he wasn’t sharing what it was, except looking strangely at me. Instead of walking by, I decided to ask him which aisle had lightbulbs, and though he answered, he told me that they were not open. I told him I thought it was 8:00 a.m., and he said they didn’t open for another ten minutes. Admittedly, my car clock was incorrect, however, this individual gave me a look of indignation as if I had farted nearby following a heavy and decadent meal. When I told him, «Never mind, I’ll go elsewhere.», he started telling me, «You can look.» but at that point, forget it. If he had been polite about the matter, sure, I would have looked and gladly waited to purchase my item there. But with this strange attitude, I decided that, no, I will not support local business if this is how they treat customers, and went to Target where as I guest, I am always well treated. Not going back to Valu any time soon. Good manners and tact cost nothing, but lack of these traits costs business.
