We were in SF as part fo a trip to Napa, SF and Monterey and having not made reservations were having trouble finding availability in the heart of SF so we decided to expand our looking. We ended up at Ecco which is in downtown Burlingame which appears to be a developing mecca for dining. Our food(one fish dish and one steak dish) was excellently prepared and beautifully presented. The wine selections were adequate and reasonably priced and the appetizers and salads were interesting and delicious. The service was friendly and professional and the owner/chef came out to the tables and was extremely friendly. The only piece of constructive criticism I could give them is that our entrees came out minutes after we finished our salads and for a nice meal like they served we would have preferred a bit of a break.

I have been here several times in the past few yrs and have always ordered the duck, which was extremely good. Our meal last night was just bad however. Really bad. My beet salad had a too sweet dressing with no acid or salt to balance it – kind of like syrup. Bread was dry and not great. The worst part was my entrée – the scallops were NOTFREASH and tasted awful. Fishy, inedible. The prawns didn’t taste of anything… at all. So I ate the capellini and tomato base and left both scallops and both prawns. Had my husband take a bite of each to see if it was just me, and he totally agreed the seafood tasted«off». Mentioned to the waiter when he was clearing that they did not taste right, and he did not react and just cleared my plate. $ 25 for one cup of capellini. Hmmm. As we left, my husband admitted his meal was not great either, but he didn’t want to spoil our date if I was enjoying mine… So not going back. Not sure what happened, but serving frozen and old seafood in a high priced venue when 2/3rds of your entrees are seafood is a BAD idea.

Not as good since last visit but still good, crab cakes are not good at all, seemed like all filler and no crab. Duck was very bony with little meat, service is excellent, warm surroundings.

All the food seemed edible, very edible. You will not starve. You will not die. But, as someone else said, Applebee’s food at fancy prices. Foie gras: covered in Smuckers raspberry jam. Mussels: Bechamel reminded me of a Starbucks holiday hazelnut/vanilla creamer Crab cake: decent. Duckling: swimming in a weird berry sauce– not sweet, but didn’t save the overcooked fowl. Choco mousse cake: so much sugar, kill me with diabetes, please. So not worth it, even when someone else foots the bill(sorry to my employer’s customers and the US taxpayer). Maybe that’s how they stay in business: your admin makes a reservation, people go have dinner, they don’t vote with their feet, they eat everything on their plate; the restaurant never learns… Tip to the staff: find another way to address your female guests instead of «lady!»

We had our staff holiday dinner here for 31 people. The servers were on top of it. The appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts all came out for each table in a timely manner. They continued to pour wine for everyone and ensured all were content. The ravioli appetizer was amazing. I ordered the salmon for my entrée and it was pretty good. Luckily, I got to try to ribeye as well and that was damn good. I’d recommend that over the salmon. Chocolate cake for dessert was rich but delicious. I gave 4 out of 5 stars bc it was a bit pricey.

Applebee’s food at Fleming’s prices. I don’t think it is somewhere I will return even if I’m not paying.

My experience is about the same as «Barbara S». The food was good. We both had the Roasted Duck — tasty, tender, cooked perfectly, the bread was served warm and there was a variety of desserts to choose from(I was there for my birthday). I has the Lemocello cake with a side of ice cream(suggested by my server) — delicious. Service was spotty though, never checked in with us but seemed to give other tables more attention. As what happened to Barbara S, we were seated and the server handed us our menus. We took our time to figure out what we wanted and the server came back and asked us were we ready to order and we said yes and put our order in. Then he walked to the table next to us and asked them if they were ready to order and they told him that they didn’t look at the menu yet. So he then started telling them about the specials. SPECIALS?! WEDIDN’T HEARABOUTANYSPECIALS! One of the specials my companion would have ordered — the rib steak. So we asked the server why he he didn’t tells us about the specials and he said that when he asked us if we were ready to order we said yes, so he figured we didn’t need to know about them! If I were the Chef I would be VERYUPSET that the specials were not being pushed, I mean, why have any specials?! Thus the 3 stars.

I took my wife to this restaurant for her«birthday» dinner. It was great. She had the Roasted Duck on a bed of Mashed Potatoes, with baby carrots and greens. I had the Alaskan Halibut with a herb crusted butter topping. The pumpkin cheese cake was a nice ending to a wonderful evening. The bus boy, Antonio, had a great attitude and treated the customers with welcoming and genuine work ethic that seems to be missing in todays world.

So good. Would go again and again. Fois gras so super prepared. Lamb chops to die for and lemoncello cake that topped the already fantastic meal. Top it off with a great bottle of wine and we are in heaven. A little old school on the service which we appreciate, some may want a more hip place but you won’t find as great of food preparation around.

I’d give this place a 2 ½ stars if there is such an option, but I’d round up to 3 stars. Unfortunately not a big fan of this place. My friend and I got seated at 8:30pm and received less than genuine«courteous service». Our server did come to check on us a few times yes, but seemed like she had to put in extra efforts to be friendly and attentive, didn’t come across as genuine. We each paid $ 72(tax & gratuity included) for our not cheap dinner, which I’d consider expensive given the overall experience. The worst part of this dining experience is we got kicked out at 10pm when our server came at 9:45pm and«politely informed» us that the restaurant will be closing at 10pm, like telling us we’d better get going ASAP. For this kind of upscale, «classy» restaurant, we didn’t expect we’d get kicked out at 10pm SHARP!!! Also, we wanted to order coffee to go with our dessert, but was told the coffee machine was spitting out boiling water/coffee, so it had to be turned off and no coffee could be served. Very disappointed and would not come back again. Food was decent but I have had better, not super impressive after all, especially coupled with less than pleasant experience = highly unlikely to return! :(

I was taken here for my birthday treat and I state that if I am to take someone special for a treat, I would definitely take them here. One might say it is overpriced but as I always maintain in all my reviews, if the food is good, the service is good and all goes well, then there isn’t much point complaining about the prices. My white veal loin was delectable and my friend’s australian style lamb was great, too! I know because I tasted it… The service was excellent. The owner/chef, it so appears, visits all tables at some point and asks how everything is going. A lot of the tables seemed to be return patrons. I won’t mince more words here. I am obviously going there again to further explore the rest of their menu. This place is highly recommended despite the astronomical bill.

My friend and I came from the city of San Francisco to try something in Burlingame. After walking around the neighborhood and seeing what the option were, we returned to Ecco. We were not disappointed. The hostess who seated us told us we were going to love everything. She was right. I ordered a Ribeye special and my friend ordered a fish dish I cannot remember. He enjoyed his fish and I too my steak. Definitely and good Italian Restaurant.

It’s too bad that I have to leave such a poor review but we were all so disappointed with our dining experience here, especially since the food is good and the owner seems like a very nice man. A few pros before the cons… crab cakes were very fresh and flavorful. The sea bass was done perfectly. Huge con: We went on a very slow night(a Monday night after the holidays) with a party of 8. Our server was either having a very bad night/week or he just hates his job either way he alone really put a damper on our entire evening. He rushed us through everything, made inappropriate comments not sure if he was trying to be funny and was irritated when we asked for more forks for the table for dessert. He grabbed 8 forks and just put them all down in a pile on the table as if we were at some hole in the wall diner. So strange. Everyone at our table all agreed that we will not be going back in fear that we will get the same server. It’s too bad…

Stopping in after a very long day traveling across the US, I had high hopes for Ecco. It’s one of the higher-priced venues in the area, so I was really hoping to see something that would set it apart. Since my stomach was on eastern standard time, by 5:30, I felt like I was starving to death and walked through the door. Things were still being put together(flowers/plants being set for the décor), but I was still promptly greeted and seated. Monique both sat and served me, and was a perfect example of how to provide good service. She was personal and friendly, knowledgeable and informative, and attentive and prompt. She made some excellent recommendations and ultimately convinced me to go with the crab cakes and poached salmon special. Granted, I was very hungry… But the food was all-around fantastic. The crab cakes were everything I wanted them to be– full if flavor and dominantly crab(no bread filler). The poached salmon special was… Just wonderful. A fantastic pairing of flavors, cooked excellently, and a portion size to satisfy even the hungriest of guys like myself. Overall, my experience at Ecco was top notch. While it is a pricier option for the area, I believe you get everything you’re paying for. I hope to come back when I’m in the area again.

I have been to downtown Burlingame a million times and I never even knew this place existed. Just stepped out from having a relaxing massage next door and was feeling a bit on the hungry side, as I am walking out to my car, I thought I should try this place. I was greeted by a very friendly wait staff. She showed me to the table and brought out some really good bread. I ordered a delicious shrimp and pasta dish, YUM! Prices are fair, service was great, parking is always tough in downtown Burlingame.

–1 Star for Service. The guy with the water pitcher was ONTOP of it. But our server? Not so much. The restaurant wasn’t a third full, and it took forever for us to flag him down for our order, to get our order, to finally get the check. –1 Star for value. Pricy dinner, not GREAT food, but not worth the dollars. +3 Stars for Food. We started with the soft shell crab salad. Very tasty. Hubby got the lamb, I got the sole. Both VERY delish. Portions are on the medium size. My fish was about 4oz cooked.

This restaurant was severely understaffed on a Friday night. There were 2 waiters total for some 15 tables, which is surprising for a restaurant of this class. One of the waiters was even doubling as a receptionist. We constantly had to push for service. As expected, service started out extremely slow at our table. I could tell our waiter was probably being pushed to his limits because he was quite rude. Our service wasn’t that bad after several tries to get the waiter’s attention. But I did notice that the other 14 or so other tables were being largely ignored. As for food, the sea bass was quite over-cooked. So were the scallops, but I didn’t mind as much since it still tasted all right. Overall the food was average. What sealed the deal was that their super-SHADY bill had the gratuity-included total listed under the«Pre-tip» section. It literally said«Pre-tip» and had another section for the total. If one of my friends hadn’t double-checked the costs, we would’ve double-tipped them. When we confronted the waiter about it, he said that it was just how they did things. There was a separate receipt for the tips, but it was ambiguously(possibly purposely) mislabeled. We looked over it a few times and agreed it was completely misleading. The only reason I’m not giving Ecco 1-star is that their food was average.

I felt like I was not important enough to be served here… and we just wanted tea and dessert… well, may be I am not? yes, agree, I am not 50+ and I don’t feel like I need to dress up to be served with a smile. And yes, if feel that 1 hour prior to closing time is enough to get tea + dessert! Now, was dessert great? — NO, but OK and they brought out a tray! was coffee good? — mediocre at best! how was tea selection — horrible, we get that cheap stuff at work for free! how was the bill??? well, take a guess… overall, not a happy camper — will stay away from this place until I am 50+ and look important enough to be served.
