Terrible, had to wait forever for the food, the staff is nice enough, but the owners are dishonest and very difficult. I choose not to eat at any place where proprietors are dishonest.

Wish I could give it 3.5 but I can’t so 4 it is. This place is good for a kitchsy little place. I think the design is fun and everyone working there is very nice. Breakfast is yummy although the home fries could have used a little work, they were clearly frozen and not cooked all the way through but whatever. BIG mug of hot chocolate with whipped cream so that’s definitely a plus. Place is a little more expensive than other places of similar quality but it’s ok cuz themey places can be fun!

The place is starting to grow on me… the staff is attentive and friendly, and breakfast stuff is pretty good.

This place is a great little diner in a great location. My son and I walk there every Saturday and order the kids breakfast with Mickey Mouse pancakes, so cute. Great staff and good food.

Joanie’s is a regular Sunday morning treat for me and my husband. We like the friendly staff who are always keeping the coffee mugs full. I’ve tried several of their breakfasts and even made special requests. The place is clean, the service is friendly, food is good, and prices are reasonable. Nothing fancy.. . just good, yummy, diner food. –Note: they have good french fries too :)

I ate here once and it was one of the worst experiences that I have ever had. I ordered a simple breakfast and was simply forgotten about. Seriously, I sat there and waited, and waited until I finally asked what the hell was going on. The response, sorry but we thought that you had left. Huh, I was sitting at the bar. Anyway when the food actually arrived, it was nothing special at all. Anyway, I walk past this place every weekend on my way to Royal Donuts and think about what might have been.

Any place that serves a decent breakfast all day warrants at least three stars from me. Breakfast is great, My favorite things to order are the classic omelets– denver or the spinach & cheese. The pancakes and waffles are good bets as well. And they make hashbrowns the way that I like them. I’ve also tried some of the lunch items as well and although the sadwiches and burgers are fine I was severely disappointed with the fish and chips. In addition they sometimes burn the fries. I’ll be back, but I’ll probably stick with the breakfast items.

I had their waffles which was beautifully covered in fresh strawberries, blueberries, powdered sugar and topped with whipped cream. Soooo yummy… Can’t wait to go back and try it again! The friendly server was great as well!

50’s themed diner owned but a Chinese family. I’d normally think that was weird but for some reason I’ve been to a rash of both Diners and Fish and Chips places owned by Chinese families, one being surprisingly good and some being just ok. I guess this would fit in the latter. Had the chicken fried steak and eggs to start off a balmy weekend meal. Everything was solid but nothing stood out. For $ 10.99 you could argue it’s on the expensive side. The wait staff were pretty good and kept my huge-mungous iced tea glass refilled. Good for your basic breakfast but Burlingame has a ton of other good breakfast places so unless you’re short on time, the selection could be more interesting.

So, I’m a little tender after a spicy day of eating yesterday. While my foody heart is crying out for an Indian buffet, my stomach is urging me not to stray too far from my hotel room. I hop over the bridge to Broadway, ignore the siren calls of endless spicy delights and settle into the Happy Days Diner. It’s nothing to write home about, a poor facsimile of a 50s diner but at the very least it deserves a rating for its super-efficient and friendly waiting team and the fact that it is spotlessly clean. The food wasn’t bad either, standard diner fare but fresh-tasting and well-cooked. Nothing greasy about my meal, the cheese omelette was light and fluffy and the thick-cut fries were crisp and delicious. There were good smells coming from the kitchen and their dinner specials menu caught my eye, a lot of Italian style dishes. One of these nights, when my stomach can’t motivate my heart, I’ll pop back over the bridge and try them.

We had perhaps the slowest service we have EVER had in our lives at this restaurant. We asked our waitress for coffee three times, got it on the third. She refilled and my husband asked for decaf… about 5 feet away… she forgot. We also asked for water 3 plus times, but she forgot. When we did get it she brought two cups rather than 4. We were four people at the table. At one point during the 35 minute wait for our food… it was not a crowded place… there were 3 wait staff… our waitress was standing by the counter chewing food. We should have known when she looked at the menu that this wasn’t going to work. The food: our eggs were overcooked for the Big Crab Benedict. Not runny. The Crab was dry. They are chincy on the hash browns… not quite sure what is up with that. I was thirsty the entire time… as she never refilled my water… nor asked. We will NEVER return.

everything is kinda greasy… but i guess most breakfast foods are. the menu is ordinary and definitely not health conscious. my fiancé and i have had stomache aches after dining here, perhaps we can’t handle the grease? the tuna melt was soaking in butter/oil. the milkshake was ok but didn’t taste like chocolate. the service is pretty good though, but i’m not so sure that can make up for the food. the diner tries to replicate an old fashioned feel but fails to do so. sticking a few antique coca-cola posters on the wall hardly justifies as being«old fashioned». the booths are comfortable and the diner opens pretty late. so one star for the service, and one for the comfy booths. but you can get healthier and tastier breakfast foods just a few blocks away.

Perhaps the breakfasts are good as the first reviewer said — I can’t say. But their lunch is really nothing special(the four of us tried several different items, and they were all just okay), and their burgers are very mediocre. Check out Bonne Sante for burgers across the street from Joanie’s. I’ve heard decent things from other people though, so we’ll probably give them one more try. — Update: we haven’t ever given them another try. There are just too many really good places to bother giving the so-so ones another shot.

tucked to the side… yet. clearly visible yellow sign… shines something new to this aging broadway street… happy service with a smile… clean and tidy classic diner appearance… sizzling of the open griddle… simple plain menu… no frills. no confusion… no non-sense…basic food… good food… fresh waffles ‘n’ pancakes… or hot off the griddle sandwich or burgers ‘n’ fries… while final meal constuction not hefty nor fancy… quality seen… care in cookin’ and preparation… perfectly buttered ‘n’ grilled breads… perfectly grilled meats… not dry or brittle… golden steak fries… perfectly golden outer… moist potato inner…
