Atmosphere is unique but not uncommon near college campuses. The menu takes a little bit from different popular cuisines. I would recommend the volcano fries and the bulgogi. I wouldn’t say the food is amazing but it’s good

Dry. That is the word to sum up tonight’s meal. This is a shame because the plates(chicken and waffles and papusas) were pretty good. If they had any moisture in them, such as a nice, wet sauce, it would have helped.

This place was a pleasant surprise. It’s got a a SUPER hipster vibe and style going, which they did very well, and managed to maximize seating in such a small space by occupying every corner of the restaurant. Once you get seated, the rest is TOP notch! Food — amazing. Drinks — yummy! and relatively inexpensive! VERY impressed with their menu, food, and over all experience. This is a great place that is pairs up with two live music venues on either side, and the one musical act was honestly some of the best musical acts I’ve seen & heard in a while. When i walked through to check out the place, the entire room was packed, and every single person was transfixed on the musicians. It was such an experience, i wanted to stay(we had other plans for the evening unfortunately). One word of caution — they have real candle sticks providing light for each table, which was a nice rustic, old school, intimate — and very hipster — way to do it, but having a flame so very open, in such closer quarters, I though I caught my hair on fire when i turned around to sit down. Not the wises idea, and I don’t think it will last. Just screams fire hazard. Also, watch your step in the back of the restaurant! There’s a step up there, which is fine going back, but easily forgotten on the way out(or to the bathroom(ah hem). Should be marked a little better. Neither of those things took away from our experience, and we WILL be back. This is now my #1 choice in Burlington!

Had an excellent meal here. Reasonably priced and nice portions. The poutine was incredible– don’t forget to order that. If you can live with ordering the chicken and waffles after the poutine– you won’t regret it. We also enjoyed the popusas. Drinks were good too as well as the atmosphere. Overall wonderful place to eat out. Can’t wait to go back and try other dishes!

Funky restaurant and lounge that has it all and does all well. Great selection of drinks, menu with a selection of food all over the world, live music and cool vibe. Pricing is reasonable and local ingredients are used where possible. Staff is friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend and will be back.

Love, love, LOVE this place. The menu is all over the map, offering a variety of cuisines, but they do all of them well. Pretty much anybody can go here and find something delicious, or in my case, so many things its hard to make a selection. Also, I’ve never been to a restaurant that serves tempeh, tofu AND seitan AND prepares them all perfectly(yes, I had to order all three dishes to share, like I said, its impossible to choose one). Local beers on tap, friendly servers, laid back vibe and live music, Duino Duende hit all the marks for me and I can’t wait to go back next time I’m in Burlington!

We had an enjoyable dinner here tonight with friends. I was unsure if the varied menu would mean that everything would only be mediocre — after all, could I trust a place to do both bulgogi and pupuas justice? — but all four dishes we had were great! Between four people, we tried the pupusas, the pork tacos, the Cubano sandwich, and the volcano fries(sweet potato and regular fries topped with mango salsa, butternut squash sauce + black beans). Almost everything had the option to add avocado, kimchi, sour cream, a fried egg, cheddar, and/or pork, so of course I ordered my volcano fries with a fried egg and kimchi. Everyone enjoyed their food, there was a great indie folk act playing at Radio Bean through the archway next door(loud, but not eardrum-shattering), our waitress took our order from memory, and service was on the slower side(maybe 25 minutes) but worth the wait. I like the emphasis on local food and vegetarian/gluten-free options, and the ambiance is quirky and unique. Next time we’ll have to try a cocktail. Not a restaurant that I’d come to more than once a month, but a cool place to take out-of-town guests or people looking for a varied, well-executed menu.

This place is weird in the best possible way. Uthe uexpected menu for both food and drink left us inspired, surprised and stuffed to the gills. I’ve never had tempeh like that before… in fact, I thought I hated the stuff but clearly have just never had it prepared correctly. The adjacent cocktail/dessert bar is totally bizarre and intriguing — you’ve gotta stop by. Feels like another world I can’t wait to revisit. We would definitely be regulars if we lived here.

So I’d bookmarked a couple places to eat in the Burlington area and then we were hungry and realized we were nearby Duino Duende, and so we rolled up for a late brunch. We sat outside where we could enjoy the breeze and the Beatles cover band playing in the bar next door. Our waitress was friendly and funny, and everything came out fast and fresh. The tables outside were tippy, the lemonade was perfectly sour. We had the chicken and waffles with a buttermilk dipping sauce, and latke eggs benedict with vegetarian squash gravy. It was one of those gloriously meals that are indulgent but also kind of weirdly a bit healthy. The latkes were awesome, light and not greasy at all and with crisp bits of onion and carrot to break up the potato flavour. The place is sort of rock and roll, not trying to impress you, with solid tasty eats. I was really happy to end up here and my food nerd date was totally well fed and pleased as well I think, based on the stunningly rapid disappearance of those chicken and waffles…

LOVE this place. My husband and I found it on Unilocal,so glad. It’s one of our must go places when we visit Burlington now. The atmosphere is adorably artsy, with lots of plants everywhere and fun things to look at, just really quaint. The menu has a lot of unique entrées to choose from, my personal favorite is the pulled pork tacos with kimchi. Everything is local and organic, and the service is always very nice. I highly recommend a visit. Oh, and to the people complaining of a bit of a wait on their food, this is the cost of real food cooked to order, and not just premade slop thrown together. Go to Olive Garden if that’s what you’re looking for. They have a good selection of microbrews to sip on in the meantime;)

Meh. Go for the live band by Radio Bean next door. The service is painfully slow & inattentive! It’s a funky, hipster vibe inside. You feel like you want to wash everything down before sitting or eating from anything. I had the volcano fries, which everyone raves about on Unilocal, but it was lackluster. The sweet potato fries were dry. The toppings were tasty though. If I’d known, I would have asked for the fries on a separate plate, because they got in the way of everything else. I had the beignets, which were sweet & yummy on the outside but soft & icky on the inside! Not quite what you’d have in New Orleans! As for the band, they start around 10 pm & play salsa-ish/reggae-ish music! They were very good!

It’s all about the ambiance at this place! Came here late on a Saturday night for dinner. They had live music playing, which added to the charming environment. My boyfriend and I split the veggie cubano and the butternut sandwich, plus fries. Lots of vegetarian options! The fries were amazing. The garlic lemon aioli was one of the best sauces I’ve ever had. I was literally licking it clean. The cubano was good, lots of flavor, a great veggie take on the real thing. The butternut sandwich was just meh. Could have been filled a bit more. I also tried the $ 5 shake, which is a stout, maple syrup, and a shot of espresso. Very tasty! And they can make it decaf! Seems like a great place to hang out on a weekend night, grab some drinks, and enjoy the live music.

I love this place so much. Get your asses off of church street take a 5 minute walk here! The food is amazing. They have Japanese, Mexican, Nepal dishes, chicken and waffles, everything! Korean lettuce beef tacos are my favorite. So juicy and the kimchi is great. Fish tacos is the second runner up! I also love the jerk chick dish! Classic. Oh and it may sound weird but throw some kimchi on the poutine! Always always always get a root and ginger drink. Can’t miss it.

VOLCANOFRIES. Get them. Don’t share them no matter how much your friends make fun of the fact that you are getting a gigantic plate of nacho-like fries just for you. YOU are the star of this show. Live a little. The only way to describe these fries are that it is as if a potato and pickled nacho toppings decided to make a porn on a plate. It’s true. Other foods: Great oysters but do take note that they are fried. I also got the bugolgi, which was good but I have absolutely no frame of reference so I’ll just note that it was decent. I wish I had had room for dessert but, alas, I did not. I’ll try not to inhale so many fries next time. Many of my friends got lovely burgers, but the only other dish I really coveted was the Cubano – it was absolutely lovely and had clearly been warmed with lots of butter on the bread. Delicious looking, at least. The service was also excellent – the bartender was taking care of us and did a great job of(trying) to split the check 7 ways. Thanks for that! Overall: VOLCANOFRIES!!!

I’ve been here three times now and have decided on it being average. Pros: — Ambiance — The volcano fries — Pricy but tasty cocktails(some too small) — Solid serving sizes Cons: — Slow service, usually 15 mins before taking drink orders — Food is inconsistent. We’ve seen cold fish tacos and ULTRA burnt jerk chicken(not sure how/why it was served) All in all, Duino is worth checking out for some volcano fries and chicken & waffles. That pretty much covers it though.

Ah, variety is the spice! And they do have variety, and spice. Great flavors and tremendous variety, something for everyone. Nice portions. Several connected themed rooms feels like an old hippy joint, eclectic live music.

Food, service, atmosphere, and music were all wonderful! Not sure what they put in their banana ketchup, but it’s addictive. The place isn’t huge. They do have a few tables for groups, but most tables are 2 seaters. Excellent choice for gluten free food.

Vibrant nighttime Mellow morning time Delicious offerings Somehow, I had no idea this place existed when I began my third trip to Burlington. But by the time I’d left again after that visit, I’d been twice. A strong vote. Went one evening and jazz was in full swing. Serious was the name of the game for our bartender, but business was a-boomin, and the mood was ebullient all around — almost a slice of old timey Bourbon Street in Vermont. Bthe next morning, brunch was mellow, starting with Fela Kuti on the stereo and ending with live jazz guitar by some gents taking some coffee as the patrons were. During brunch, i had a pseudo-flight — three small glasses of 8oz each of local beews. In other liquids, the Aztec Coffee was a Mexican chocolate prickly sensation of fast heat. Lotkes and scrambled eggs with crispy bacon and butternut squash sauce made up the Sweet Loader — warming, filling, delicious, outstanding. Our server was sweet, though seemingly new and a bit forgetful. No matter, though — I’d mark this as a certainly-return spot for the future. I’ll research the literature that inspired the name more before I return. You’ll enjoy it here.

We had brunch today. The live music was wonderful and, as we had to wait for our food for awhile, it was good distraction. My first cup of coffee had clumps of dust on the rim. I looked around(easy to do as the tables are super close to each other) and noticed that several people had dusty coffee cups. Our waitress was amused when I asked for a different cup. A table nearby ordered food for 4 people but only 3 got their brunch, the 4th person was still waiting for his food when the rest were ready to go. Our food was good(breakfast sandwich and Vermont eggs Benedict) but nothing spectacular. With so many amazing food places with attentive service to chose from in Burlington, we will not be back.

Yum yum yum, this will be the first place I stop when I’m in Burlington again. I had the mushroom and lentil burger, which was AWESOME. Their chutney worked perfectly with the mushrooms and lentils, and I added some blue cheese, which made it even more amazing. Skip the fried egg on your burger. I saw my friends’, and the eggs were overcooked, so the yolk was all hard and not runny. We came with a large group(12 people), and there was a mix-up with some of the burger toppings– understandable for so many people ordering all these burger variations. At the end, they sent out a free order of little fried dough balls to apologize for the mistakes, which was really nice. The food was interesting and tasty– worth a visit.
