They should be embarrassed to advertise the words«Real Italian Food» in their establishment. My spouse is Italian born and raised, I am also very very familiar with Italian food & this was DEFINITELYNOT«real Italian food». We were terribly disappointed first when we saw the ingredients used in some of the recipes like the Spaghetti Carbonara(they have things like peas and cream) which are definitely not part of any real Italian carbonara recipe. Despite this warning we took our chances and gave it a try by ordering a pizza and the white clam risotto. The Risotto’s portion size would not satisfy a 3 year old, and to top it off, it was submerged in what tasted like fake lemon sauce, which was all you could taste, it was disgusting. The pizza had a gum like texture and was very hard to chew and swallow, the taste was also very unappealing. The oil served with the bread taste like something you would find in the dollar store. WAY overprice especially considering that they DONOT serve«real Italian food». Never again, save yourself the disappointment.

I ate here the other night with my boyfriend… we walked around for a bit and everything on Church St. was insanely crowded, including Three Tomatoes, but we decided to eat here anyway. I was sorely disappointed. The bartender was sooo unfriendly with zero personality. Never have I felt so unwelcome at a restaurant. Took forever to greet us, looked like he hated his job. We ordered drinks and some apps, and I was never offered another drink, he just dropped the check. After ordering another drink, he crumpled up the check and gave us a new one. Like he couldn’t wait for all the customers to leave. Once at our table, the we both ordered chicken parm and it was sooo overcooked and dry. The pasta and bread were good, but its hard to mess that up. Overall, this place is way overpriced for what you get, and the customer service is better at a drive-thru.

Toscano: Gruyère cheese, garlic, leeks, crimini mushrooms, arugula OMFG!!! Yes, as amazing as it sounds… And their crust is immaculately ‘cracker-like’… YUMYUMYUM I ate some out in the rain, some back on the way to NY, and then saved 2 slices for lunch the next day!!! 4.5!

Slightly depressing subterranean atmosphere, adequate food. We pulled into Burlington for lunch after having driven up from Woodstock that morning, and we arrived just late enough that almost everywhere was closed. We had planned on Magnolia Bistro, but they were closing up shop, along with everywhere else. Three Tomatoes appeared to be open through between lunch and dinner, so Three Tomatoes it was. My bolognese was okay. My husband’s sandwich was okay. My wine was okay. They made some steamed broccoli for our kid, and he ate it. Our server was a little odd and frequently absent. I can’t see any reason to make it back there, short of being in Burlington and desperately hungry between lunch and dinner. We’ll time our Burlington pit stop better next time.

Three Tomatoes, two lunches, one star. The only positives about our experience here was the very clean restroom and the large carafe of chilled water our server brought over for us. Other than that, our lunches were a disaster. I went with the open-faced meatball sandwich. Homemade meatballs, red sauce, the works. Sounds lovely, right? The meatball was more like a dried out slice of meatloaf. The ‘open faced sandwich’ was a slice of overly dried out/toasted bread, and I had to request a side of red sauce to soften up the meatball/bread and to add some life and taste to an incredibly dull and boring meal. And I shouldn’t even be categorizing this as a meal because it was tiny. My wife went with the soup/salad/half sandwich combo and she was not at all pleased. The soup was very watery and had little to no flavor. The salad was half-way decent, but it was pretty much some field greens on a plate garnished with a house vinaigrette. Her half sandwich was a panini of sorts that was dried out and lacking flavor. There are so many options in the area here, I can’t imagine ever wanting to go back.

Great pizza at great price! We ordered 2 pizzas and they were delicious. Their pizzas are thin-crusted and they were tasty, with plenty of vegetables and cheese. For 12 $, it was unbeatable! Their drinks are also at great price. I ordered a 2 $ San Pelligrino lemonata, which is a very cheap price for this drink. We’ll return for sure next time we’re in Burlington.

Why anyone wouldn’t choose to spend a couple of extra bucks to eat at Trattoria Delia boggles my mind. The food here at Three Tomatoes probably deserves two stars, but when I’m expecting to have a nice meal and end up eating sub-Olive Garden quality pastas, I can’t help but rate it one star. I had a white wine clam pasta, and it was the mos bland pasta ever. I appreciate that they use many local ingredients, but I wish they did better things with them.

Had lunch at 3 Tomatoes Sunday, food was great, my BLT was perfect, loads of turkey, just enough thick bacon and heaps of aragula with garlic aioli which I had on the side, the dish was generous with a side of salad. Can’t wait to have that again. I started with the bean soup which while nicely flavored was a little crunchy because the beans were a little too al dente. My husband’s spaghetti and large homemade beef and pork meatballs looked good and he said it was very good. Ample supply of really wonderful crusty bread, I am so sick of the restaurants which ration their bread… I am not a big bread eater but it is nice to have more than two pieces in the basket.

The best word to describe Three Tomatoes is «meh» I went to Three Tomatoes with high hopes, but the food wasn’t over the top. I got a pasta dish and it hadnt been properly drained. My sauce and pasta ended up just floating around in the bowl-not entirely appealing for such a highly rated restaurant. The service was a bit rude and impersonal. Not what I was expecting.

Just went on a really lovely date here with my husband this past Saturday night.(A very rare and welcome occurrence!) Things I loved: ~ Freshly baked bread(they have it delivered every morning from Red Hen Bakery) with VERY garlicky olive oil to dip.(Not sure I’d recommend eating this on new dates, unless you are BOTH enjoying it!) ~ Raspberry Italian soda. Oh Dear LORD. Unbelievably delicious. ~ A daily special salad offered that night, of mesclin greens, fresh(and gigantic!!) blackberries, shaved onion, a balsamic reduction, and hands down the MOSTDELICIOUS(it needs to be capitalized, trust me) blue cheese from local Boucher Family Farms. One of the best salads I’ve had in my life.(That cheese was so flavorful, so creamy… I’m melting just thinking about it!) ~ The small plate of duck with blackberry jam was… Heavenly. I thought the duck was a tad overcooked, but it was totally delicious, very flavorful & the jam just added the perfect touch of sweetness and lightened up the richness of the duck. ~ Excellent service! Our waiter was an absolute sweetheart. He even asked the chef where I could get that amazing blue cheese from my salad. Things that were just OK: ~ My Italian food loving husband ordered the Linguine alla Carbonara. The flavor was good, but it was quite dry. It needed so much more sauce than how it was served. It was disappointing. ~ We decided to sit outside, as it was a perfect, beautiful evening. And I know this is going to sound nit-picky, but it was ridiculously dark. I wish there had been candles on the tables, or lights in the trees near the restaurant(there were little white lights in all of the other trees not surrounding Three Tomatoes). ~ I was super disappointed that the online menu hadn’t been updated, and the restaurant had changed their menu about a month prior.(I was really looking forward to the duck entrée that they chopped!) We had a really sweet date, and would definitely head back to Three Tomatoes again. Looking forward to trying the pizzas next time.

For a really, really busy night, they actually pulled our dinner off pretty well. I tend not to get caught up in food wait issues but the other couple at our party ordered before us and were served way after us. My girl ordered a pizza late into the meal and it arrived cold, again, before another pizza that had been ordered earlier. Service, along with my appetizers were the redeeming factors though. The duck and the scallops were much better than I anticipated. I had to stop myself from completely dominating those poor scallops like a heathen, especially with new friends around. Seriously though, average to better than average food, and you can probably expect better experience on a less busy night. Outdoor seating does do this place justice though; a perfect spot for a bite and to enjoy some people watching.

The food was top notch. Small plates are just enough to tide you over without stuffing you before your meal. The vibe inside is just as quaint as the patio seating. The prosciutto wrapped scallops were so good, and the apple and arugula salad was crisp and refreshing. Becky was my server and she was great! Although she recommended the mocha cappuccino for dessert I went with the diplomatico, and it was incredible. Great service, tasty food and a nice atmosphere. It’s too bad I didn’t stop in until the end of my trip here, it’s a must go!

I probably wouldn’t be so down on Three Tomatoes if it weren’t so over-priced. I ordered the Fettuccini with Braised Lamb Ragu, which was somewhat tasty only after I added the salt that it desperately needed. For $ 18, though, I have had MUCH better pasta dishes. One of my dining companions ordered the Penne with Shrimp and Horseradish Tomato Sauce. He was pretty disgusted by it. It was essentially shrimp cocktail over pasta. I think he was expecting the horseradish to be more subtle, but he had to drink a lot of wine to wash it down. The other ordered the scallop pasta special. He didn’t say much about it, but I don’t think he was super impressed. We didn’t try the pizza, but I’m just going to assume its mediocre as well.

Another boy, another date at Three Tomatoes ;) I had the shrimp fra diavolo and it was SO so delicious. Solidly spicy, delicious and perfectly cooked shrimp, one of my new cravings. My date had a special, a pork lasagna that was pretty amazing too, it wasn’t ground pork but more of a braised one, it was tender and flavorful and interesting. Service is quick and friendly, I am always kind of shocked at how quickly my meals can pass there. I’m sure I’ll be back — another boy, another date :)

After being caught up in one of Burlington’s random, but apparently common thunderstorms, we decided to take shelter here since they have a nice, dry downstairs dining area. The empty beer bottles that line parts of the dining room wall looks pretty cool. We were promptly seated and started off with some bread and olive oil and garlic dip. Having learned my lesson the previous night, I decided to forgo much of what the bread basket had to offer. The dip also wasn’t addictive enough for me to continue to reach for the bread. I was impressed that they had a wood-fire oven for their pizzas and was tempted to get one, but thought I would just try some of my dad’s instead. I ended up getting the chicken marsala. The marsala sauce was quite delicious and the chicken breast was tender. The green beans were great too, but then again, everything tastes a lot better when they are drenched in Vermont sweet butter. I found myself going back to the bread and dipping it into the marsala sauce after I finished off the chicken. I also tried some of the mushroom pizza, which was slightly better than your average wood-fire pie. The cheese was pretty basic and the crust wasn’t crispy enough, but it had some good flavor. Somehow, that meal was pretty filing and we didn’t even have room for dessert. The sauces for the pastas and chicken can be quite heavy, but they are too good not to eat once in a while.

Really great Italian fare. Located right on Church Street, Three Tomatoes is the perfect dining spot after a day of shopping and exploring Burlington. We went with my family on a hot evening last week, and fortunately the downstairs dining area was not full yet. The outdoor seating area was understandably barren due to the heat wave. It would have been nice to sit outside had the weather been more tolerable. The restaurant interior has a pleasant décor and an open kitchen. One feature is the glass bottles stuck neck-first into the walls, arranged in evenly spaced columns down the wall, with simple tapestries in between. Our server was friendly, personable, and very accommodating. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. My husband’s bolognese was delicious, the meaty sauce had a great taste. I opted for a seafood dish with calamari in a garlic-butter sauce, which was generously smothered with lots of calamari. Yum! They certainly do not skimp on the portions, and everyone was left full after the meal. Also, I really loved the garlic oil and bread they serve at the beginning of the meal(this one’s definitely for garlic lovers). Even though everyone complained about being full, somehow we had room for dessert, and we all split a slice of tiramisu, light and refreshing lemon cake(my favorite), and super rich chocolate ganache. I had been here several years ago and was glad that it was exactly as I remembered it. We will certainly be back the next time we’re up in Burlington.

I was here recently with my fiancée on a trip to Burlington to celebrate our engagment. We were able to eat downstairs, which was nice and cool compared to the warm evening. After sampling beer all day. we opted for half a chicken of wine, which was pretty reasonable priced for the amount given. I can’t help but to shutter when a place that charges a decent amount doesn’t include salads in a meal. Especially when prices are not rock bottom. I ordered pasta with meatballs, and my fiancée had tortellini with a basic marinara sauce. We both agreed that the sauce was good, the pasta part was just bland. The meatballs were alright. They were dense, and could have used some more fat/flavor. No dessert here, as we were too full. Overall a nice dining experience, but nothing too special.

Three tomatoes is the reliable cornerstone for you to stop in and get a great meal that won’t let you down. The service is a bit slow on nights, but the pork bolognese with shredded pork shoulder is delicious. Try it on linguine, penne, or tortellini, but my favorite is the tortellini. The three cheese pizza is also delicious, sort of a garlic bready seasoned goodness(perfect with marinara sauce). The starter salads are a little bland, but if you get it with chicken they do a great job if giving you big servings. Overall I’d say Three Tomatoes reminds me of what I always want Olive Garden to be.

I wonderful place for pizza and Italian fare on Church St. I love to come here, get a pizza and beer and sit outside on Church Street and sit in the sun and people watch. Delicious pizza that is always consistent. Life is good.
