A great sushi place, whether you order out or dine-in — sushi is always fresh and service is quick and efficient. One of our go too places to eat on a Friday or Saturday night. Definitely try a special roll!

This is one of our go-to places — when my wife & i are both tired from a long day’s work — or chasing the granddaughter around — and neither of us feels like cooking — a phone call to Ocha, and our usual(sushi & sashimi for two) is waiting when we arrive. No better sushi anywhere outside of Japan(and we just returned from Tokyo). They have maintained a high quality level for quite a few years now, and as long as they continue to do so, we’ll keep coming.

We were originally headed to Nori but got talked into Ocha while we were having a drink at Cloverleaf beforehand. We were chatting with a nice gentleman at the bar who couldn’t rave enough about the sushi pizza at Ocha. Anyway, we headed there instead and ordered the tuna sushi pizza. It was to die for! We’ve never had anything like it and loved it. I could have eaten the whole thing myself instead of sharing it. We ordered 4 rolls as our dinner. I honestly forgot which ones, but they were delicious and rolled very well. Will definitely be back.

Got the bento box lunch special and split an eel avocado roll with my friend! Service did not feel very welcoming– stepped into Ocha and waited a good five minutes for waitstaff to approach us and seat us. Loved the eel and avocado roll, and the beef maki– it was cooked perfectly, juicy, and well seasoned. The salad dressing was also nicely balanced. However, everything else included in our bento boxes(California roll, miso soup, chicken teriyaki) was mediocre, albeit filling and very reasonably priced.

After lots of word of mouth, I decided to give Ocha a try. Their food was beyond delicious. I’m not the biggest sushi eater, but I think that is partially because I haven’t found a place I love like this place. A full service menu of sushi and lots of other great Asian dishes, there is SO much to choose from. What’s great about Ocha is you can come here with people who don’t like sushi because they are sure to find something. I loved their tuna sushi pizza, something I normally would never think to try but it was incredible. And their speciality rolls, which normally would be too complex for me, are absolutely delicious. My favorite is the tuna lover. They have some of the best shrimp shumai and their regular hand cut rolls like spicy tuna are fantastic and fresh. On the hot side, my non-sushi loving husband is obsessed with the General Tso’s chicken; said it’s the absolute best he’s ever had. On the service end, it’s just OK. They could refill your water glasses and bring a wine bucket for your chilled wine more often. They deliver to surrounding areas, including Livingston, which is a huge bonus, are BYOB and take OpenTable for reservations. A definite must try if you love sushi!

Ocha is delicious! Highly recommended! Anytime I’ve eaten at the restaurant, or got a meal delivered, everything came out so great. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. Too bad my husband doesn’t eat fish… I’d order from here every day!

For NJ sushi, this place will do just fine. A self professed sushi snob, I had high expectations after so many great reviews on Unilocal and from local friends. The Bloomfield Ave spot is convenient, well lit, pristinely clean, minimalist in décor and perhaps best of all, has nice booth seating if you can snag one of them. It can get quite busy on a weekend evening but we didn’t feel at all rushed having sat at 7pm and lingering for quite a bit after the meal. Service is on point. They’re attentive and very accommodating for special requests like ponzu sauce, extra ginger etc. and no nonsense extra charge either. Admittedly, we were in a bit of a sugar coma from Halloween but we were craving salt and some fresh sashimi. Their menu is extensive with so many sushi/sashimi appetizers, specialty rolls galore(which — as a sashimi purist– I almost never order) and a list of daily specials that will make your mouth water. Live scallop, king crab, sweet ebi, yellowtail Serrano sashimi and more. We started with the house special miso soup which was really nothing more than spinach added to the tofu classic accompanied by a side of tempura flakes for crunchy texture. Not super special but good. Next we had the miso glazed cod app and the Kanpachi Serrano sashimi. Thinly sliced Kanpachi dressed with ponzu topped with spicy peppers-yum. Not innovative but very good. Sadly though the cod was overly charred and the quality of the fish was poor-tough, slimy-not flaky and moist — so don’t expect the Nobu style signature dish here. My husband had a spicy yellowtail handroll and we split a tuna avocado naruto and the fire island special roll-yup…I succumbed to the allure of a crazy Americanized sushi roll which did not disappoint. The naruto was as expected except for the ingenious way they put wood sticks in each piece to hold the cucumber and fish in place. This made eating the ordinary roll so easy-and it really is so simple but ingenious as I’ve never seen before. All in all we liked Ocha and would come back. It is about the same distance from our house to here as it is to go to Umi in Millburn so that is a tough call. For more inventive dishes and perhaps better quality, I recommend Umi but Ocha service is way better and the tab a little less pricey. Kind of a toss up but you can’t go wrong with either given the dearth of reliable sushi places in NJ.

Just ok. Not A wow factor for me. Delivery was on time. Sushi was average, nothing to write home about. Probably would explore other options in the area to find the best. But would not say I would never order again

Ocha is always consistently good. We eat here at least twice a week and are seldom disappointed. Probably the best sushi in the area

The menu reads way better than the actual experience. Service is mediocre. It’s decent, but not amazing. One of the rolls we had the other day, Ruby roll, was excellent… but that’s all. If you want to try a new sushi spot, you can try, but it isn’t a «go to» for craving sushi

Definitely a 4 star place for us. The food was really excellent. We had some hot dishes and sushi and rolls as well. All were excellent. We did come here a but early on a weekend(6:30pm) and the food simply came out too quickly. The service is friendly but they obviously lack the skills to pace our food. It seemed like a family with no prior food service experience. But that’s not a bad thing necessarily. They were super attentive. It just happened too fast for us. We will definitely be back.

Great lunch specials! My co-workers and I, sushi-obsessed and consistently underwhelmed by our building’s cafeteria, ordered lunch. We got a pile of sushi(2 rolls, miso + salad for $ 8.50??? Sold!) and a Bento box(tempura, rice, spring roll, California roll, miso soup + salad for $ 9.95???). The prices are amazingly reasonable, and the food is good. The tempura batter was a bit thick for our eater’s taste, but that was the only complaint. We look forward to returning soon!

It’s rare for me to say I «love» a Japanese restaurant because I don’t really eat all-things-sushi, if you know what I mean. But Ocha has won my the little tastebuds I have that savor Japanese flavors. A friend and I came here on a whim. She saw Ocha had good reviews on Unilocal and that they has sushi pizza. I’ve had sushi pizza with this very same friend before, and it was good. But this sushi pizza at Ocha that everyone keeps talking about puts the other one to shame. You have the option of salmon or tuna. I chose tuna for us(obviously!), and we were oh-so-happy with this decision. A healthy portion of fresh tuna is arranged on a crunchy, round crisp of goodness topped with things like seaweed, sesame seeds, avocado purée, and«spicy» kabayaki sauce. FYI I’m not a spice fan and this was not in the slightest bit spicy! I could have eaten another one of these by myself. For entrees, my friend got the Dancing Queen and Banana Tempura rolls and enjoyed. I got a Chicken Tempura roll and Alaskan roll and requested the Alaskan roll to be cooked, like I always do. Our server didn’t mind fulfilling my request(some places flat out say«no»). Loved both my rolls. The Chicken Tempura was freshly cooked — lightly battered chicken breast with, I believe, a panko crust. The Alaskan roll was perfect and delicious. Not too much rice on the rolls AND the rice stayed perfectly in tact when picking up your rolls with your chopsticks. Last but not least, everything we ordered was truly pretty to look at. My friend and I have these dinners only once every other month, so when we see each other, we talk for hours. Our server was super patient and did not bat an eyelash when we were the last patrons in the place. We didn’t realize everyone had left until it got really, really quiet lol. We appreciated this so much since you know very well, other places are happy to let you know when it’s time to go home. Ocha, thanks for a wonderful meal! Highly recommend this place to sushi enthusiasts and sushi-ehhh-ists alike! p. s. It’s BYOB and there is plenty of metered street parking.

4.5! Came here for a friend’s birthday and sat at a table for 8 in the corner by the window. Great spot, ample room, and easy to hear each other! Also BYOB which was a plus, and very nice service. The Squid Salad was amazing and fresh. Also a very generous portion. The dressing was light– lemony and soy sauce mix complimenting well together. Also love that the squid was grilled and not fried! The cucumber brown rice roll I ordered was good(can’t really mess that up). I decided a different route this time since the special rolls basically all had mayo and/or were fried– major turnoff for me. It’s also pretty pricy here and the sashimi/sushi only are one piece each. But, the fish was very fresh, so I’ll pay for that! Overall, great sushi and great place, just be warned if you like healthier rolls. Would still definitely come back/order!

Great experience at Ocha this evening. With the exception of Tomo’s in E. Hanover, which is a different kind of sushi experience anyway, Ocha is as good, if not better than any sushi in the area. AMBIANCE — The restaurant is sleek, almost club-like. The crowd(6PM on a Saturday) was mainly families and couples. The restaurant was at least half full(a good thing for this early in the evening). SERVICE — Attentive and prompt. We didn’t want for anything; from our water glasses remaining full, to bringing out all dishes in a well-paced manner, the service was spot on. Am I the only one that notices that when dining at a sushi restaurant, you rarely have an «assigned» server and, instead, whoever is nearest helps you? Kind of a weird sushi restaurant quirk(just sayin’). FOOD — We ordered the following: Green Salad with Carrot/Ginger Dressing — Very good. Different than your average ginger dressing, mainly due to the(pleasant) sweetness added by the carrot. Sushi Pizza(spicy tuna) — This was delicious. Just enough spice to give it a nice kick and served on what I believe was a crunchy scallion pancake. Was enough to share between two people(4 total pieces). Monster Roll — The tempura banana in this roll intrigued us and, while it was good, we probably would go for something else next time. Spicy Girl Roll — This was great. The spicy salmon with this crunchiness of the tobiko flakes worked perfectly. Would definitely order this again. Alaska Roll — As good or better than anywhere else in the area. Sushi(yellowtail and scallop) — Extremely fresh and the rice was perfect. I would order more sushi/sashimi next time. Ocha is a winner and I will absolutely return. Note: It’s BYO, so don’t forget your beer, wine, etc.

Came here with my boyfriend the other night to have a special night out. We had been walking around all day and decided to get a 4:30pm dinner at Ocha. Upon entering we were seated and given drinks right away. Appetizers — my boyfriend and I split a sushi pizza and the field green salad with carrot ginger dressing. Both were good. The sushi pizza was a bit spicy but still tolerable by those of us that prefer mild spiciness. Dinner — we decided to get the ocha roll, the happy together roll, the hawaii roll, and the black dragon roll. All were fresh and tasted delicious, but if I had to rank them in order of favorite to least favorite, it would be as follows: black dragon roll, hawaii roll, happy together roll, and then the ocha roll. Wow, so much food. We weren’t able to finish it all so we got most of it to-go and finished it the following day. While the prices are almost double what they are at Nori’s across the street, the sushi here is almost double in size and much more fresh. I would prefer going here if you are in the area and want to enjoy sushi.

Very good food and service, but way too rushed. Went for dinner last night. Had a 7 o’clock reservation. Decided to go for a couple of drinks first at the Cloverleaf next door, so we were about 10 minutes late. From seating to exit was under 30 minutes. We ordered a couple of salads, some shumai, 3 rolls and a few pieces. When we were seated, we asked for water and green tea. It arrived in about 20 seconds. We took a few minutes to peruse the menu before ordering. Our salads arrived in about 2 minutes, followed quickly by the shumai. No sooner had I taken my last bite of shumai, were my plates cleared followed by the immediate delivery of my sushi main. We ate, our check was brought, and we were out the door. As for the food, the rolls are quite creative and fun, and the fish itself is very fresh and tasty. Everything was properly prepared, there simply wasn’t any sense of pace between courses, as it felt like a sprint. In hindsight, were I to go again, I’d probably order some apps then only order mains after I had finished.
