Hamayu is by far the best Japanese food in Camarillo. The calamari appetizer is my favorite! Not heavy like some fried appetizers! They put a citrusy vinegrette on it that is so good! The spicy tuna hand roll is also excellent. Not too creamy and the perfect amount of spice. All the sushi is extremely fresh. Udon is also on point.

Tonight I asked Yukki San to make me something hot and delicious. I was served an amazing dish of abalone, octopus asparagus and mushrooms. What a incredible chef !

Easily 1 of the 2 best sushi places in Camarillo. I mean, can’t go wrong with sushi made by real Japanese. Yuuki-San is very experienced and professional. Fish is always fresh. Next time you come down, try their Omakase. There are alot of things not in their manu but in their secret Omakase manu… lol Service is also the best. Very attentive. Only other place for sushi in Camarillo is Mika Sushi but IMO these 2 have different style. Hamayu is more traditional. 5 stars all the way…

I decided to check out this spot because I have already tried every other sushi restaurant in Camarillo. It is more like a traditional sushi place, which at first was appealing. Service was good I cannot complain and the fish was fresh, the only problem is you get a lot more rice than fish. I have never picked off more rice from my roll than at Hamayu. My boyfriend ordered one of the tuna hand rolls and it was practically a vegetarian roll, carrots and all rice, very little tuna, he didn’t eat it. Both of us left a considerable amount of rice on our plates. The rice problem would not have been as big of a deal if the prices weren’t so steep. If you plan to go here ask them to go easy on the rice and roll the dice, other than this it wasn’t bad.

I dont know why they have good reviews. The sushi was warm, the fish looked like I hacked at it, I felt extremely sick after, and they overcharged us.

Good, traditional sushi hole in the wall. Lots of real Japanese eating here. I ordered fresh scallop, which was excellent. A tuna hand roll, also excellent. The Albacore delight wasn’t that delightful but wasn’t bad either. Nice staff. I’d stop here again. It’s right off the 101 Freeway.

I live in Hollywood, but was in Camarillo for work this afternoon and stopped by at this restaurant for lunch. It was a little bit before 2 pm and I didn’t know that they closed between lunch and dinner(2 to 5:30), but they let me in. I had mackerel, squid, yellowtail, halibut, California hand roll with snow crab, and egg sushi with iced green tea and small Sapporo for $ 34 which I think very reasonable price. The sushi chef and a server were very nice even though I was there after closing time. If I will go to Camarillo and want to eat sushi, I will go back here.

I love Hamayu. I go here at least once a week for lunch. Their lunch specials tend to have a lot of food and its rather tasty. The fish tastes pretty fresh here and it doesn’t smell. The staff here is really nice and they’ll even allow you to substitute different fish for your sushi if you get the lunch combinations. All the dishes here have a sort of home cooking feel to them. This probably adds to Hamayu’s charm. As far as beverages, I really enjoy their ice green tea here. Its really refreshing on hot days. Hamayu is definitely my number one choice for Japanese food in Camarillo. I like that there’s always fresh flower arrangements on each table. I know my coworkers and friends like to check to see if the flowers are real. And if your still wondering. I’ll just say… they’re REAL. There’s plenty of parking outside, but the lot gets filled really fast during lunch time.

Sushi Hamayu is one of the only remaining authentic Japanese restaurants in the area(since most local«Japanese» restaurants nowadays are actually run by Koreans). Been coming here for years and the fish quality is always spot on! Their menu is a little pricy but this little place exudes classic charm. It’s simple interior and limited seating is part of what makes up the ambiance. They also always have great flower arrangements! I always always always start with their amazing CALAMARI. It’s delicate and honestly makes my mouth water. They make it fresh to order served with a balsamic /lemon sauce and crisp cucumbers and green onions. So good. Their CHIRASHI bowl is simple and yummy. Deliciously thick fatty pieces of fish on sushi rice. Just the right amount of food. Served w miso soup and house salad. A lot of parking. Booth and table seating but I think max number per group would be around 6 comfortably. Sushi bar is available.

I rediscovered this sushi bar tonight and was so pleased to find that the sushi was delicious and the service was excellent. This is a more traditional Japanese restaurant that focuses on service and the highest quality food. The tempura was outstanding, I had a spicy tuna hand roll that was probably one of the best I have ever had. They make the spicy tuna so it is actually spicy, simply the best. I am so glad I decided to eat here tonight, it was excellent from start to finish. I highly recommend the Washington roll and the spicy tuna hand rolls, I have them add avocado to the hand roll and it is great!

Hamayu is the best authentic Japanese restaurant around in town with the Japanese hospitality. I always feel good after I visited this restaurant. The restaurant is not big and fancy but I feel the warmth from their service and the beauty of Ikebana display(Japanese flower arrangement). Food is fresh, simple and yummy. Chirashi Sushi is my favorite!

Hamayu is still getting it done. Best sushi around. Check out this dessert: Green tea mochi, huckleberry sauce, gelatin and persimmons. Wow!

I debated on 1 star; but, since this is just about service, I went two. I went in for lunch, asked for a take out menu, was told they did not have one. Asked for a copy of the sushi sheet(photocopied page that you write your sushi order on) of which they had a huge stack. The guy said he’d have to ask, asked the lady next to him, she looked at me, I asked again if I could have a sushi paper, she said I could look at it. I asked if I could take it with me, she said no. I walked out without a menu, and without any desire to return to order food. If you can’t afford a take out menu, at least don’t be too cheap to give a sheet of photocopied sushi which cost you all of 5 cents to copy. HORRIBLE customer service.

I have been a customer to this establishment since 2000. In my humble opinion, it is the best Japanese/Sushi restaurant in Ventura County. Majority of the patrons are Japanese(which is a good sign as far as I’m concern) and Yuki, the sushi master, makes delicious, well just about everything. I am not a «real» sushi connoisseurs(like people who enjoy raw shrimp, raw sea urchin etc.). But I do love fresh tuna and white fish sushi, which this place has plenty of. I highly recommend tempura. Sushi hamayu tempura is light, flaky and just plain yummy delicious. If you are looking for a cheap, non-Japanese owned, loud, bad tasting, don’t really care about the taste of the food just bring me tons of beer… this may not be the place for you. .

I stumbled upon this place while on a pit stop in Camarillo. I Unilocaled many restaurants in general and researched a few on the internet and this was my final choice. I must admit that I was still skeptical at first because I don’t consider Camarillo a hot spot for sushi or any other kind of food for that matter. It was comforting to know that the owners were Japanese. As usual, I asked the chef for omakase, tsumami style. Immediately he agreed and went to work. As soon as the first plate of sashimi arrived, I felt that I was in good hands. 6 or 7 dishes later, I was completely satisfied. He doesn’t have a vast variety of fish and not a lot of the high end stuff(at least on this day), but he has more than enough to accommodate an average palate, and what he does have is fresh. The small staff, including his wife is friendly and attentive. My one gripe is that he has no shochu at all — beer or sake only. The food bill was relatively in expensive, but the alcohol is not cheap. Our bill for 4 adults was about $ 330. Of that, over $ 100 was in alcohol. I vowed to go back. Maybe the next time we hit the outlet malls, we will stop in for dinner again.

I was visiting my folks in Camarillo and they invited me to have dinner with them here. I suppose it’s their go-to place for Japanese cuisine as they were very chummy with the owners and the waitress. It’s a smallish place with a sushi bar and a few tables and booths if you don’t want to sit at the bar. They have a good selection of Japanese munchies although now extensive but what they do have is quite good. We ordered the calamari plate and that was actually really tasty. It tasted fresh and had a hint of vinegar sprinkled on it. I would definitely order this again. I opted for the Chirashi Bowl and it came with the various assortment of fish, sweet egg, sweet shrimp and roe. It was a nice sized bowl, not overly large but the dish was really good as well. Authentic Japanese restaurants seem to be scarce in these parts so if you’re looking to have a good Japanese dinner, this is a good choice in the area.
