I have to go to this place every time I’m at the lake. The food has ways been good no matter what I get. Tonight had a sausage sampler… knockwurst, beer and cheddar, and Mettewurst with potato pancakes and Kraut. Topped it off with the Cherry Strudel. Truly the best cherry strudel I have ever had.

Had an amazing dinner! While visiting the area we decided to give it a shot because of the good reviews. It lived up! We happened to come on the once a month French Night. They had a four course menu with lots of choices. I had the French menu and it was delicious. Two others at my table ordered from the German menu and were not disappointed! I would recommend a reservation just to make sure you can get a table. They said we got their last table and we were there at 5pm when they opened.

Fabulous German food! If we could give 6 stars we would. All four of us had a different German entrée and each was fantastic. Besides being delicious, the ingredients were very fresh and flavorful. We all felt the prices were reasonable, especially for the outstanding quality. Service was friendly and prompt without being rushed. The view is spectacular and is reminiscent of being high on a mountain overlooking the Rhine River. HIGHLY recommend Der Essen Platz! We will be back!

We go here several times a year. It is located on the road to Bridle Cave in the woods. The restaurant is on top of the hill with a big view of the lake. Hummingbirds are also busy outside when in season. This restaurant is open year round Wed-Sun at the lake for dinner. The service and food are always good. Our guests and us always get the German food, but their menu offers other items as well. We have had most of the German items in the menu and many of beers. Not sure I have a favorite entrée. Everything I have had has been great. I usually get the red cabbage for a side which is very good as well. This is the best place for German food at the lake. It is also one of the nicer restaurants on the lake as well for service and view. Highly recommended.

This place was ok… very expensive and didn’t seem that great for the prices. The sausages were good but that’s about it. Have a good selection of beer.

I know that prices anywhere near a tourist attraction is usually a little higher. But the average price for a entrée was $ 17 and up. Which seemed a little pricey to me. Especially when it consisted of a small meat dish, small bowl of soup, and small side. I would say each side was 2 tablespoons… You can add a sausage for $ 5 to any meal. They are about the same size as a Johnsonville… I was a little upset with the portion size considering the price. We are talking about German food after all… The staff was nice, and the restaurant was homey. But for $ 60 I expected a little more.

If visiting the Lake of the Ozarks, as far as restaurants are concerned, I highly recommend a trip back to Camdenton and Der Essen Platz(German for«the Eating Place») for some excellent and affordable German fare. They have a small, but affordable wine and beer list, and the food is excellent. I started with the Weihenstephaner Korbinian Dopple Bock($ 6.50 — .5 litre), a dark, rich, robust beer with hints of chocolate and coffee, it was excellent. The soups are very good and homemade. I tried the German tomato soup which was better than most tomato soups, but nothing I would order again. The schnitzel dishes are amazing. I had the schnitzel cordon bleu(pork cordon bleu — two breaded cutlets with ham and cheese in the middle, then baked and covered with a cream mushroom sauce) and my wife had the Jaegerschnitzel(pork cutlet served with Hunter’s Sauce, a savory brown gravy made with Jaegermeister and mushrooms). Dinners are accompanied by soup or salad, warm homemade bread, and vegetables, potatoes, or spaetzel(a German potato dish similar to gnocchi only smaller). The Bavarian wheat loaf is homemade and delicious, so do not be too shy to ask for another! I also tried the German potato pancakes with hunter sauce(normally they come with applesauce, but I prefer the savory pancake with gravy). Unfortunately, we were so full by the time dinner was over, we did not have time for dessert, but I am sure they are amazing as well. Owners Noelle(the chef) and Daniel(front of house) are warm, friendly, and helpful, so do not be afraid to ask questions. And do n ot forget the view over one branch of the expansive Lake of the Ozarks, a romantic setting for a special occasion or a weekend dinner … Guten Appetit! The best thing about this place: The view! We enjoyed dinner here after our wedding at Bridal Cave just down the road. We arrived in time to enjoy a beautiful sunset over the lake as we dined near a nice big window overlooking the lake. The food was fairly typical German fare with a few Italian choices to round out the menu. The co-owner(his wife is the chef) was very gracious and served us himself. The service was friendly and attentive. My brother-in-law had a strudel that he raved about. Everything we had was tasty. When my husband and I return to visit Bridal Cave(aka The Scene of the Crime), we’ll make a point of returning to Der Essen Platz.
