I’ve lived in the area for 40 years and this is one of my favorite go to restaurants especially with friends. We have ordered everything on the menu and never been disappointed. The staff is very friendly and always there to get you whatever you need. Food comes out fast and tastes authentic! I had a large to go order one night and when I arrived I realized I had left my purse at home, so I told the nice man I would run home and be back in 20 minutes, he insisted I just pay him next time I came in. I have never been so impressed, because it’s not like I go more than every few months! Love this place!

In several years I’ve never had a bad meal or experience with this restaurant. It’s our go-to place for Chinese. However I do have to order even the so-called spicy foods«extra spicy» because it is not spicy. Do that if you like spicy food. I like their house chow mein and house fried rice, which includes lots of different kinds of meats. Love their fried prawns and pot stickers, too. If you call it in, the take-out is usually ready in just about 10 minutes. Always fast and piping hot. The portions are huge. It’s a good deal for good food!

We have been coming here for years because the food has been consistently good and reliable! The services has always been excellent and the staff very friendly. Our favorites our the Mongolian chicken, Egg foo young, Spicy beef with vegetables and Sesame Chicken. I am not sure what happened if you read a bad review, simply not true

This is, by far, the most miserable example of Chinese take out food. Generally you can count on getting decent food at many Chinese restaurants in Northern California. No so at the Shanghai Restaurant. Greasy, tasteless, and lukewarm my 30 $ meal went into the garbage disposal. There was an aftertaste of overused oil in the dishes. Shame on you Shanghai. I would have expected better. Try to give a damn.

Great Chinese food and the honey walnut shrimp are huge and crunchy! So tasty! The ribs were huge and fantastic! Will be coming back for sure. Great prices too especially the lunch specials

My whole family loves this place. The staff always accommodates our needs no matter how big of a group we have. Walnut Shrimp, General Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Sesame Chicken, Moo Shu Chicken and Pork w/Plum Sauce, Pork Fried Rice, Chicken Chow Mein… Just to name a few family & friends favorites.

Loved the service. The gentleman especially is great. I had sweet and sour pork. I could taste a lot of vinegar. Fried rice was good. Not a fan of small kid sized water glasses. Fried cheese wontons were just as good as Panda Express. Still on the search for really good food up here.

Hands down the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. My family and I have been coming here for years and we always go for special occasions. They always remember us and our order, no matter how long its been since we were there last. This is my favorite restaurant of all time and even though I live out of state now, I always make my family take me when I’m visiting. Chinese chicken and broccoli beef are my favorites and the won ton soup is the absolute best I’ve had. Love this place!

Was impressed by their service and smiles and warm welcome! Lunch special ended at 3 but combos went until 4. Egg flower soup tasted like just egg, hot n sour was watered down, hot tea was good. Cheese wontons crispy deelish. Wasn’t impressed by orange chicken or general chicken I was actually disappointed! :(big pieces of chicken in the chow mein! Note taken there were 5 to go orders as I dined in and they were all sesame chicken! So that must be good

Favorite Chinese restaurant in all of Eldo county! Being a resident of Cameron Park for 18 years I’ve been to pretty much every Chinese restaurant. I say with confidence that this place is by far the best

Wonderful service! They were on it! They were fairly busy and still managed to get everyone’s order in a quick and timely manner and all the while they were friendly and warm! Also the lunch special is a great deal! We will definitely be back!

We eat here all the time. The food is always amazing, the service is fast and always friendly. When our family from San Diego comes in town to visit they always make a trip to Shanghai.

I have eaten at Shanghai Restaurant several times and the thing that I notice about it is the lack of consistency with the food. I have had some great meals here. Then, when I finally talked my wife into coming with me, we had a meal that was even below supermarket take-out standards. When Shanghai is on their game, their food is quite good. The smells as I walk by is always what lures me into Shanghai. However I never know what I’m going to get when I go in. Unfortunately my wife won’t return to Shanghai since she got hooked on nearby China City. So, with that, I must bid Shanghai a sad farewell. Don’t worry Shanghai, I’ll try to sneak back in when my wife is at work… and hopefully you will reward me with one of the great meals that I know you are capable of making.

Hubby and I gad some time to kill before work and decided to grab some lunch. Not wanting drive thru food we saw Shanghai Restaurant and decided on some noodles. There was no one eating in the restaurant when we walked in and that made me a little nervous but then I saw the two rows of huge take out orders waiting to be picked up and I felt better. I was slightly she’ll shocked by the prices… a lot higher than I am used to paying in the Elk Grove/South Sac area. After perusing the menu we decided on cream cheese won tons and beef chow fun(with gravy). Both were very tasty and would definitely recommend to anyone dining here.

Been coming here off and on for the last 12 yrs. They have GREAT Wor Wonton soup that you can’t beat. Lot’s of veggies, shrimp, chicken, pork, it’s a meal in itself and very reasonably priced! They have yummy lunch specials as well. The staff have always been friendly and helpful, making sure I am enjoying what I am eating, as well as, have what I need(extra napkins, spoons, more water, etc…). This is the ONLY Chinese restaurant I will go to when I want good Chinese food. The only other place is up in Placerville, when I get up there which is «few and far» between visits.

Stopped in for takeout and was impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant. Service was friendly as well as I was offered water while my order was prepared. Ordered«Neptunes Delight» which was stir fried chicken, beef and BBQ pork with tons of veggies in a spicy sauce. The protein and veggies tasted fresh. The sauce could have had a little more seasoning. The pot stickers were quite doughy. Good but doughy. I will be back.

Not bad, but not the best. Positive– The service was great! Negative– The chicken was dry and crunchy, and the beef was chewy. The sweet and sour had no sweet, and no sour. The best part of our meal was the cheese wontons, so we probably won’t be going back.

Best Chinese food to date. I live in San Francisco, the mecca of Chinese food. And I have YET to find a place that tops Shanghai. Maybe it’s the nostalgia that comes along with visiting this place. I’ve been coming here since I was a little kid, and have always been greeted with a smile. All in all, my favorite Chinese restaurant, both for the food and the hospitality. I travel from the city just to get some of this place’s glorious sesame chicken or chow mien. Yum yum.

Had takeout from Shanghai Restaurant tonight. I’d read a lot of outstanding reviews — far more than the bad ones. I’m sorry, but I can’t agree with the 5 stars people seem to give it. We had Walnut Shrimp and Sesame Chicken, both of which got raves from previous Unilocalers In this case, not so much. The egg rolls tasted like they’d been fried in old grease heading toward rancid. The dipping sauce just plain didn’t taste good.(I am constantly amazed that these sauces have to be red — there’s a wonderful Chinese place in Fresno that didn’t make theirs red, and it was delicious.) The shrimp were sort of okay, but nothing special, and lacked sauce. The sesame chicken was very bland and dry. I bit down on a couple of pieces of cartilage in my serving. So far that’s two Chinese places in Cameron Park that I don’t think I’ll visit again, China City being the other one. On the other hand, the prices are reasonable, parking is easy, and the wait staff is great — at both places. Both restaurants were busy when I went in, so they are liked by quite a few locals and tourists. I guess I’ll just have to keep trying.
