I love, love, LOVE Grandpa’s Cellar! It is always on the itinerary when we know we’re heading up to Apple Hill. What keeps bringing us back when there are so many places from which to choose? Selection, price, nice staff, and delicious food! This time around, hubby was feeling peckish and opted to get the now-famous, always delicious apple dumpling, smothered in warm apple cider caramel sauce. I mean, he INHALED that thing, which means it was good. For me, this time around, I got one of their apple oatmeal cookies, because I love them and they’re always delicious. The other thing that caught my eye was the word«pumpkin» and I ended up ordering a slice of pumpkin nut bread, which they warmed up. OMG, it was soooo good! I love pumpkin bread, and this was just completely awesome. Oh, and we washed it all down with some hot apple cider… yum! Grandpa’s Cellar has the great staff, great products, great grounds, great country store, and great prices. We will ALWAYS come back here! I cannot encourage y’all enough to hit up Apple Hill(go early on weekends1), and hit up Grandpa’s Cellar… you’ll be glad you did. We always are :)

This place has hands down the best desserts in apple hill. I’ve tried plenty-my favorite is to have an apple dumpling ala mode with apple spice sauce and take one of the apple pie cheesecakes to go-they come frozen and might just be what heaven tastes like.

2nd stop in the Apple Hill area was at Grandpa’s Cellar. They have the best smelling bakeshop, I didn’t buy any pies, but we did buy lunch here. Chicken tamales with a tiny salad $ 7 — tamale was just ok, kinda dry, salad was bleh. Cup of soup $ 4 they had chicken soup w/white & wild rice — was served really hot which I liked, soup was nice, came with a roll that was meh. Pint of apple cider $ 2.5 — was enough for 2 ppl to share, tasted fine. Barsotti Family Juice Co — 16 fl oz. Also bought: Honey Bees local honey; caramel apple butter; strawberry apple jam; and strawberry rhubarb apple jam. Emu is there like Sept-Oct, missed it by one weekend! Charged it.

If you asked a few years ago, Grandpa’s Cellar was a five-star favorite at apple hill. Unfortunately it has gone downhill a lot over the years and doesn’t deserve such a high rating. I came by on a warm, early October Saturday with a large group. Parking wasn’t too hard, you just pull up to any open spaces on the road or driveway. They have several vendors on the weekends, including a very cool looking pottery one. There is a bakery, BBQ and a shop in addition to some very, very old apple trees with picnic benches scattered round. They sell fresh apples and the bakery had several dozen different items, including frozen goods to bake at home. I am partial to apple cake, but the one I had here was a huge disappointment. I can’t eat dairy and ordered it without the ice cream and whipped cream. I asked if I could have it for $ 5 instead of $ 6, since I figured most of their cost was in those sides. I got a very confused response and they went to the manager lady who was very rude about it saying that the price is the price. Screw that lady! It was dry and without enough nuts. The little shop is nice, and staffed with friendlyish ladies. They used to carry different mixes in mason jars for making treats at home, but they have cut back on those a lot. Great and easy to use pancake mix but only so so apple sauce/products. Grandpa’s Cellar is for sale, no wonder they had some rudeness and higher prices, maybe try another farm on your next trip.

This is my favorite stop in Apple hill. Their Apple dumpling is my favorite. The gift store is cute and has some unique items. Also, the little hiking path is a nice way to burn off some of those calories. Make sure that you stop here when in Apple hill.

Luci N & I just tried another take & bake product, their apple crisp. Advantages Of the crisp include smaller size(less groaning), it’s pre-cooked so you can reheat at home & serve in under 30 minutes, and, at $ 9, it’s a smaller investment than the pies that range from $ 13 – 20. Worth it!

I would give this place 3.5 stars, but since we can’t give half stars, I’ll default to the lower number, 3. We stopped by this place to get a slice of apple pie because the wineries hadn’t opened yet — LOL! There were several other«apple» places along the way, but I had read about this place on Unilocal so I was determined to come here. Since it was early(around 10am), we were the only ones in the bakery when we arrived. There was a myriad of apple pies and baked goods available. I selected a slice of french apple pie. It was good, with BIG slices of apples. The crust was fresh and the crumble on top made it extra yummy(see attached photo). I must say that I’ve had better apple pie elsewhere, though. Perhaps I had higher expectations of this place? There are a few benches outside where you can sit and enjoy your pie. You can also order it a la mode, although we didn’t. When we arrived, we were greeted by an interesting lady in the bakery. She wasn’t the friendliest person we’ve encountered, but perhaps it’s because she was getting ready for the crowd that was about to arrive? I love the general area that Grandpa’s Cellar is located in. There are nature trails nearby and it just gives you that camp-like feeling amongst the large fur trees and pumpkin patches. I love it! Grandpa’s Cellar has an adjacent apple store that sells everything apple — towels, jams, honey, etc. It’s a cute store and if you love apples, you would probably love this place!
