Best sweet potato fries anywhere… the coho salmon was perfectly cooked and Caesar wrap was the best ever. Great service and old time charm. We’ll make a day trip to eat there again.

In a hurry for lunch, stopped in and I was a little skeptical that we could get in and out in a reasonable amount of time right at the lunch hour(I’m looking at YOU Wild Hare), but delightfully surprised by the Backstop Bar & Grill! Good food, speedy, friendly servers and cozy, interesting surroundings. They split the burger and fries that we shared and we didn’t get any of that pursed lip attitude you sometimes see when a server sees her tip potential take a dive with dinner splitters, plus there was no extra plate charge for it like so many places. We ate at the bar and enjoyed perusing the different sports collector jerseys and posters all around. Will definitely be back!

We tried it for the first time today for lunch. We had the club sandwich, BBQ burger, and BLTA sandwich. Everything was good, prices a little bit high but it beats driving out of town. Service was good too. Sports décor, comfortable place and people of all ages were dining there. Looking forward to coming back and trying some brisket and other tempting selections.

I enjoy my experience every time I come. The food is good and the beer selection is great! The taps rotate often, which keeps things interesting. The staff is friendly and efficient! I recommend this spot!!! PS. Holly and Olivia are the dream team.

They have a delicious product, a nice place for Canby to have as an alternative to the local«towny» Wild Hare.

Liked the historic building and the inside was very comfortable. Nice owner and people. Shared the full rack of ribs with my daughter she loved the ribs sauce. Loved how it came on the cookie sheet. Was not impressed by the cowboy beans awful taste and texture. No on the cornbread I am picky with my ribs I like to have a smoke ring and don’t like them falling off the bone. My daughter liked them though. The fries were amazing. My oldest daughter orders chicken-fried steak every new place we go. She loved the green beans and the gravy and how crispy the batter was but she thought the meat was frozen not fresh. She liked it though To be fair though she had one in Dayville and nothing has come close to that one but this was her 2nd fav. My mother ordered the pastrami sandwich and it looked amazing and she said it was really good. The twins got kids meals and they were nice portions. If I go to Canby again this would be a place I would go again.

Good food, all ages welcome(nice when you have kids). Wait staff generally attentive. A little pricy. The one real negative — why do restaurants insist on serving a kids Mac-and-cheese scalding hot!

I went here because my boyfriend lives here and thought it was ok. It was ok to me. the fish tacos were fried which makes them sub par in my book, but the healthiest thing perhaps on the menu… so they were good. Great happy hour item in my book! I did ask for no sour cream on them, and there was some anyway. but I didn’t say anything. Had a glass of wine and a Spanish coffee. The Spanish coffee was very good and strong! Customer service was excellent I have to say. It definitely is a guys sports bar, but a little classier than most… it was packed on a weeknight. :)

My wife(then fiancé) and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Backstop. I’m not familiar with the area, but our wedding venue was in Canby, so we researched local places. The staff at Backstop were easy to communicate with and always got back to me when I was leaving them messages(unlike other places in Canby that weren’t as customer friendly). Our main waiter, Derrick, was fantastic; great customer service, attentive to all of our needs. The food was a hit with our party of 15, especially the pretzel appetizers. I’d asked them to have appetizers ready at the table when my group got there and they had no problem making that happen. It was just a really laid back, secluded space for our families to meet and chat. A stress free process and reasonably priced, which is all I could have asked for.

First off, I hate giving bad reviews, this is a first. Reviews are subjective and it could have been an off night so please keep that in mind. I ordered the barbecue chicken dinner. The chicken was so over cooked I could barely eat any of it. The Cole slaw was not good at all and even corn bread was just ok, and the fries were cold. I was raised to eat everything on my plate, not tonight unfortunately. The wait staff was good, new but very nice. The bartender or owner was knowledgeable about the beer and gave good recommendations and was eager to assist. The couple I was with said the ribs they had were good but otherwise felt the same about the coleslaw, fries and corn bread. I’m open to trying again but it may be a while. The burgers looked good, next time I’ll try one of those.

Our first visit; we came for Happy Hour. We ordered the Bavarian pretzel, cheeseburger, and spicy chicken bites. The atmosphere is definitely sports bar, but not in a bad way. The servers and bar tender were super friendly and helpful. Burger was tasty, pretzel was amazing, chicken bites were too spicy. I would definitely return to try other things on the menu.

I wanted to add that this place is great with customer service! My drink wasn’t quite to my liking one night and it was immediately replaced! I really appreciated that and just wanted to say it never hurts to ask! Also don’t miss trying their awesome clam chowder on Friday! Definitely try the Coho Salmon dinner too!

Great little place in Canby right of the highway. The service was quick and many people helped out table. We ordered the appetizer of garlic mushrooms and they were delicious. Our party ordered the BLTA, Chicken sandwich and the roast beef sandwich all were cooked great. We were seated in a timely manner as well. Restaurant was clean and has a sports theme atmosphere. I’ll be back. – comment to owner – I’ve heard about this place over and over again from people and I finally just made my way over from OC. Sounds like you might be opening one up here! That true?

Keep it to breakfast here. Dinner is hit or miss. Recently got a prime rib«medium-rare», Not a touch of pink on it. Tough dry meat. This left me with the options of send it back to get a replacement that had been dropped on the floor, eat leather steak, or get a dimmer elsewhere. The only reasonable option was to eat dinner elsewhere. On a different note, come here for breakfast. It is significantly more edible than the prime rib was.

Still loving The Backstop! Their Spicy Chicken Taquitos… I crave them all the time. Only two changes would convince me to upgrade my review to five stars: 1. Expand the bar further into the restaurant so more of us can order your delicious food and drinks. The bar is hopping, but the restaurant part is the exact opposite. Way too quiet and we can’t participate in happy hour. 2. Invest in better shades for the windows. If I’m unable to face the back of the place, I have to wear sunglasses.

UPDATE: I stopped back by today to see if my first visit was a fluke. There was again nobody out front to greet any patrons but it looked as though there was only one person working and it sounded as though she may have been busy in the back. I was seated much quicker and ordered the Asian salad again, for consistency, and dined in instead of take out. The waitress was nice. My food came out exactly as I expected — MUCH better than my original order. The chicken was fresh and even had a bit of a char on the edges, which I loved. Everything came on the salad as noted on the menu. My drink did not go empty and the waitress even offered me a to go cup to take my iced tea. I took the remains of my salad back to my office and snacked on it for the afternoon. Much more impressed and will definitely be back to try new menu items!

I wound up here on Friday night as part of a celebration of my husband’s retirement. Again, the service was stellar, but this time I ordered the brisket salad for dinner. It was delicious(but I would read the menu more closely next time and ask for barbeque sauce on the side and no dressing; it was overdressed for my tastes, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it). This salad has a generous portion of tender, brisket; the greens were fresh and well proportioned with the warm brisket. My salad came with two onion rings that I passed off to friends at the table – they said the rings were well done and tasty. My husband ordered buffalo chicken wrap with fries – all great. Our drinks were good, too. I had a kamikaze and my husband enjoyed a few margaritas. Because we were in a group, someone insisted that we all have a round of Jägermeister. I signaled to the waitress to count me out – I’m not much of a drinker and shots don’t sound appealing to me. She subtly came to my side of the table and whispered, «I’ll bring you a shot of Coke, ok?» It was actually perfect. Sure, I could have had a smack down with my friend about insisting on shots, but this was the wrong context. I really appreciated her grace and cleverness. Plus, now I look like a bad ass. As the evening played out, I noticed the owner, Ken, see an abandoned purse hanging off a chair near the video gaming machines. He got an employee’s attention, asked a few questions, and discerned that the purse belonged to a woman now sitting at the bar. He retrieved it for her. It was a small act of kindness, but Ken’s attention to detail caught my eye. No wonder this place feels so good. No wonder it’s so crowded and energized. Bravo!
