This is what a local pub should be like. More than friendly staff, everyone working together keeping this busy place running like clockwork. Great pub food and awesome soups and sandwiches. Perfect spot for a quick meal and a beer on those late busy days when you just don’t want to cook and deal with the hassle of cleanup. Fairer than fair prices for the quality and portions. Great staff

Not Good Let me start by saying this is supposed to be an old time Irish Pub and rally it’s like a hotel restaurant/bar owned by an Irish family. Nothing about the place says Irish pub. We ordered a couple of beers and followed a few Unilocalers that encouraged me to order the steak tips. This was a mistake. Below average untender tips with what might be the worst sides I have ever had. I ordered a very simple side of mashed potatoes and a veg. Let me explain this. This places idea of mashed potatoes is boiling potatoes and mashing them up with no salt, pepper, milk, or butter. Just mashed up watery boiled potatoes. Just no effort at all. In an area with so many other bars to go, I say to myself why ever go again? Then I answer my own question, «I won’t» Thanks

Just started coming here a few weeks ago. Now it is a regular favorite of mine! Fabulous food and excellent service. I highly recommend you try it. Great atmosphere, big screen tv’s everywhere. Love it!

Great comfort food at a very reasonable price. Super service and an eclectic mix of patrons. This is our new favorite place to grab lunch and relax with a cold one.

You’ll see the keywords in most every review … hole in the wall, hidden jewel, undiscovered. I suppose The Hillside is the kind of place you really don’t want social media to help uncover, though I suspect it would’ve been tarnished by now if it was going to happen. So, okay, just between you and me. The Hillside is an unpretentious spot with great value food, all seemingly made fresh, and very affordable drinks. Wally’s a superb bartender and others are cool, too. No worries about not being a regular either, you won’t feel out of place. And, to cite one of my wife’s top criteria for any ‘quality’ dive bar — it’s clean. If you’re ever cruising the lower end of Rt 128 and need a pint and a sandwich, sneak into the Hillside. If you can find it.

Excellent food, clean, hard to find, but worth looking for. Turkey sandwich is homemade, my favorite. Prices are decent, beer is cold, what else is there.

Great little bar that I hadn’t been to in literally a decade. Not much has changed and this is exactly how it should be. We went here to warm up after attending the Pats/Ravens playoff game and got in just in time for some pizzas and wings before the kitchen closed. They were delicious as always and completely hit the spot. I might have to start playing softball again so I have an excuse to come here after the games.

Stopped in three friends before a Pats game. Food is good for what it is — pub fair. Space is cramped, and tables are small(mostly 24″ round high-tops). Waitress has an attitude for sure, she kind of grew on us, and did a decent job taking care of our table. You get the feeling right away that regulars get a different level of service. The 2-star rating came when someone in our party spilled their water on their own lap and floor. Not hard to do given four people eating apps and meals on a 24″ round table. The owner(or possibly mgr) came over and proceeded to tell us we spilled the drink on purpose, and gave us all sorts of grief. First off, if we wanted to be a jerk and spill a drink on purpose, we go with soda or beer — not water. Secondly, who wants to spill water all over themselves before a freezing cold Pats game? The whole encounter was absurd and left us dumbfounded. Would go back for the food, but never with this a-hole running the place. Cheers

The owner knows your name, what you drink, etc. Talking about a great experience !! The food was great too, price is more than fair for what you get! I’m coming back for sure!

I stopped into this pub a few weeks ago. I’ve driven by a million times on my way to climb Blue Hills. Parking lot is very small. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty packed for a tiny little bar. Age range from 21 to 71(?). You get the picture. I grabbed a seat at the bar in front of one of their big screen TV’s. Ordered a draft(about 8 to choose from) 5 bucks(good pour from the bartender) and ordered the steak tips. Order came out pretty quick and the steak tips were cooked just as ordered and were delicious. Came with fries that were really good and a veggie medley. I was really surprised at the medley.(Usually this scares me cause it’s tuff to get everything cooked perfectly) but it was great. Even had some chopped up celery to give it a nice crunch! They have a juke box and the bathroom was clean(although tiny). Bartender was wicked friendly and attentive. Bill came to a little under 20 bucks for 1 draft and the tips. Gonna try a burger on my next visit.

Got to our hotel late, discovered the Hillside Pub next door. Walked in starving. Asked Dave working behind the bar if they were still serving food. A gentleman who had stood to the side stepped in and walked us over to a table, sat us down and Immediately made us feel at home. I introduced my family to this Irish Gentleman who’s name was Mike. He sent over a wonderful waitress named Lorraine who was as polite and made sure we received food and drink, Mike came and visited with us several times and the evening was a real treat every time he spent a few moments with us. I asked him to translate the Gaelic writing on the menu. «A hundred thousand welcomes» he translated. We went back the night before we had to leave to pay our respect and say good-bye to Mike. He had made us feel so welcome we wanted to express our gratitude. He was off. We were able to speak with Dave and were introduced to our waitress Suzanne who was also wonderful to talk to. Look the food was great, the beverages are all you can ask for and of all the places travelled, Boston, New Hampshire, Vermont and back, the Hillside Pub will always be at the top of a short list of unexpected delights. Hope to return from the West Coast to this top notch retreat. Thank you Mike for feeding us, your team at the pub and making us feel so welcome in your neighborhood business!

YES! Great little hole in the wall, comfortable and cozy pub. Great prices on food and beverages. I have been to lunch here a bunch of times. They only do fish and chips as a special and they do it right. Also had various sandwiches, pizza and awesome homemade beef stew, chili and chowder. Ohh, and they pour a mean pint of Guinness!

I wish I’d stepped into the Hillside much sooner. The Hillside is a 5– to 7-minute drive from my house, but situated as it was — behind a couple of gas stations and next to a busy clover leaf on Rt. 128 — the desolate area didn’t have«curb appeal» to me. Since then, a hotel and condo complex have been built, making the area livelier. I have lived in the area for 15 years and never stopped in. My bad. I went for lunch last week after a couple hours of shoveling snow, and am very glad I did. My deluxe burger with bacon, sautéed onions, cheese and mushrooms($ 8.50) hit the spot. The burger was cooked as ordered and served hot and juicy. The fries were twice fried, giving them a crispy exterior. I washed down the burger with a couple pints of Long Trail Ale, one of 8 or so drafts. I think they were $ 6.50/pint. The menu offers ample variety; certainly enough to bring me back. There were soup and sandwich specials the day I was in. And I saw a couple of tasty-looking bar pies. Besides the food and friendly service, I liked the atmosphere. The medium bar seats about 20 and there is seating for maybe another 40 at high tops. The place was clean. There were good HD flat screens. Other patrons were cool. No one gave me the look-over or stink eye you can sometimes get when walking into a neighborhood watering hole. In fact, I got into conversations with 5 people while there. I could also have just kept to myself. The Hillside is that kind of place. A real pub for real, decent people. The kind of place where you’d take your wife and older kid, but why would I do that? A guy needs a place to call his own, right? Let me know what you think of this review by clicking a button below. Thanks.

We lime this place for work lunches or a good spot for some afterwork drinks with friends. The food here is great too. You definitely need to try the corned beef sandwiches.

Inexpensive, good beer selection, fast/attentive service and a casual atmosphere make this one of the best bars in the area. Tucked in behind the Shell station, this gem is easy to miss. They serve mostly standard bar food, not a gourmet restaurant but all their offerings(at least the ones I have tried) are pretty good none the less. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.

Great little pub that you might drive buy without noticing it. These guys pour a great drink, have a super selection of beer and are super quick on the food delivery. Good solid pub food is served in a cozy atmosphere. The place gets packed on Friday afternoon with lots of construction folks so be prepared to stand a bit. Parking is challenging but once inside you will appreciate your efforts to park. PS: If you where there around Memorial Day do not judge the pub by those inside. Those very odd folks that looked out of place were part of the traveling carnival across the street.

Outstanding establishment! Amazing bang for your buck here. Generous pours!!! Perfect Guinness!!! It’s inexpensive, not moderate. $ 4 for well vodka and $ 5 for absolut or stoli is a STEAL. The staff is amazing… looking at other posts and there seems to be some confusion about who the owners are tho lol… but I won’t say their names in case they tried to confuse people on purpose haha. It’s small, one-room-school-house kinda pub but it’s an amazing vibe. It’s a testament to the food/drink when you see people eating a sandwich standing up because there are no tables but they’re just dying for a Hillside creation. It’s near Curry but there is no college drama/bs. It’s really a phenomenal crowd. BESTCRAICINTHEAREA!!!
