Excellent hot dogs. Tommy is funny, a little corny, but funny. Long lines in summer but worth it and you can just enjoy the atmosphere. Also, Jackson Street may be the best in Cape May. We like the leaner winners. Always a good time.

A summer staple. It is worth the wait for the hot dogs, frozen cokes, and tuna cups!

When you think of hot dogs you’re probably thinking about the usual toppings: mustard, ketchup, mayo, chili or relish… When you come to Hotdog Tommy’s you realize that you haven’t even scratched the surface of hotdog possibilities. You’ll see Mac&Cheese, BBQ sauce, bacon, mashed potatoes, potato chips– name it, they have it! If they don’t have it I’m sure they would add it to the menu. Are you a vegetarian? No problem! They have a veggie roll or a carrot dog. A Carrot Dog? Yes a cooked carrot with whatever toppings you want. Would I want it? No because I love meat, but it’s still awesome that they’ve literally thought about everything. The owner is actually the nicest man ever! But know what you want before you get to the window. Hotdog Tommy’s ALWAYS has a line down the street so don’t waste everyone’s time. Also grab a slushi to beat the heat! Rooter, Coke, Orange & Cream, Blue Raspberry… They’re superb!

Cape May is one of my favorite vacation or weekend destinations, and Hot Dog Tommy’s has been on my list of places to visit. The place is not open in the winter or Spring, the season is from June through October, so my recent post Labor Day visit was the first time I was able to try it out. The staff is friendly and the service is quick and efficient. Their wild assortment of hot dogs doesn’t disappoint. My Reuben dog tasted just like a Reuben sandwich, complete with sauerkraut, Russian dressing, Swiss cheese and a pickle to top it off. The large dog is a short but thick frankfurter bursting with flavor, served on half a sub roll. Located right across the street from the beach, I can only imagine the unbridled insanity of trying to get a hot dog during the middle of summer. The prices are good($ 4.95 for a big dog loaded with toppings is okay in my book). There’s nothing mind-blowing here, just some damn good hot dogs with some weird toppings served to you by friendly people. Only Ebeneezer Scrooge could walk away from this place without smiling.

Delicious unique toppings and cheap. Perfect lunch after a long night out. Got the shaggy lean dog topped with cheddar cheese and sauerkraut hubby got plain dog with standard toppings. Hit the spot. Long line and cash only.

After reading the rave reviews of this place, we went, and will not be going again. Standing in line in the hot sun for 30 minutes must lead to something amazing, right? or that is what one would hope. What you get is a boiled hot dog, on a plain bun. Yes there are a lot of toppings to choose from, but so what. Save the time, and go buy yourself a pack of Oscar Meyer Wieners, its the same thing.

Okay i gave it 4 stars cause hot dog tommy is so funny. The hotdog was good but we didnt eat it right away so the hotdog bun got soggy. So the hotdog wasn’t as good as i imagined. The toppings on it though was so flavorful. I would like to come back and try another hot dog.

I am writing this on behalf of my husband since I was not able to enjoy the hotdogs. I don’t eat beef nor pork really and they didn’t have a turkey or chicken hotdog. They do have some non hotdog options that include turkey and veggies. He said the hotdog was good, nothing super impressive though, definitely not the hour wait. If there isn’t a long wait, enjoy! Long wait? I would pass…

I tried this place two years in a row in the hopes that perhaps last years microwaved bacon and canned baked beans were the creation of an «off day» So this year we tried a Mac and cheese dog with fried onions. Which was meh(hence the two stars) at best. Don’t get me wrong, hot dogs are always fun and easy but s five dollar hot dog should have more flavor than just canned products and flavorless toppings.

I love Tommy’s Hot Dogs! Beware, the lines are always super long, but it is worth it. Hot Dog Tommy is a cool guy, always making jokes. The hot dogs are pretty good, with a wide variety of toppings and combinations. The slushies are excellent as well.

A lot of hype for a hotdog, the line wraps around the building around lunch time. My mistake was ordering the jumbo dog instead of the leaner wiener. I had the Dock Dog, which came with mustard, chili, and onion. It would’ve been perfect with a smaller hotdog but I thought go big or go home. The large hotdog was thick as a sausage and fresh, but almost too juicy and made the topping to hotdog ratio way off. Every other bite was just hotdog. I would’ve been happier with the same toppings but a normal sized dog, then I could’ve maybe even sampled a second kind. My ordering mistake. We snuck in as soon as it opened. Correct order or not, I don’t think a hotdog is worth the hour wait that many had to do to get their lunch but clearly, many would disagree with me.

Many combinations of toppings. I got the ‘All American’ with the smaller hot dog. It was covered in white American cheese, baked beans and bacon. It was an indulgence that I recommend. If you’re like me, and only eat a hot dog about once a year, then this is the place where you should go to experience the full-effect of rich, delicious hot dogs and toppings. If you’re looking for a vegan option, there is a roasted carrot ‘hot dog.’ There are not turkey or chicken hot dog alternatives. If you’re looking for a healthier eating option you might want to go somewhere else. Per the lady-standing-in-front-of-me’s insistence, I also ordered, but did not care for, the«Tornado.» It was a bowl of instant-tasting mashed potatoes topped with shredded cheddar, chewy bacon and a dollop of sour cream. The owner was very friendly. It was a hot day and the line was long. The owner came out and asked everyone standing in line how we were feeling, asked if we needed anything and thanked us for visiting his shop.

This place is a must if you’re in Cape May on a summer day. Unfortunately for my wife and I, we frequent Cape May during the other seasons and always missed out on this place. But now, I’m happy we finally got to go, because this place is worth the hype. First of all its run by this crazy guy«with a wiener on his head»(his words, not mine) with endless passion for serving up great hot dogs to a never-ending line of hungry beach dwellers. Second, they offer so much in terms of hot dogs. An outstanding list of toppings that ranges from banana peppers and pickles to mashed potatoes and sour cream. They offer two different size dogs(with appropriate buns to match): the bigger bad dog and, its skinny cousin, the leaner wiener. For a hungry man, two big dogs or three leaner wieners should do the trick. So many options to choose from, but if you can’t find one that lines up to your deepest desires, making one up is also an awesome option. Finally, they offer sides and all that good stuff but I was most impressed by the frozen drink selection. Such a nice treat for people to cool off with. I got the root beer and it hit the spot. Seriously, just go. The prices are incredibly affordable and the food is extremely enjoyable. You can’t lose here.

If you don’t visit hot dog tommys while you’re in cape may you’re doing yourself a disservice! I had the thunder dog bad dog which was mashed potatoes, baked beans, onions and cheese. My husband had the tornado, mashed potatoes, banana peppers, sour cream and chilli(I think) Please do yourself a favor and toss aside your concern for keeping that«perfect beach body» just this once! You won’t be sorry! I wish I would have taken pics of our stuff but that would have delayed us devouring it! Haha!

Fantastic beach snacks/lunches! Great hotdogs with lots of options for toppings. With our large group and multiple trips while in town, I think we tried about 15 kinds of hotdogs and all were liked. One of the few places in town where I felt like the food was more than with the price. The food is good and so is the service. I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a hotdog. And even if you don’t, the carrot dog was good, too.

Next level hotdogs, a must-get if you’re grabbing lunch during a day on the beach. Forget about your beach physique and get the big dog, slap some toppings on it and get a side of mac and cheese with chili. Don’t forget the root beer slush. Also be sure to grab napkins since they really pile on the toppings. Line sometimes gets long, wrapping around the block, but the tommy team is efficient. I typically don’t like waiting but it’s definitely worth it here.

Excellent variety of hotdogs and various toppings with an eclectic flair. Worth the wait if the line is under ½ an hour which gives you plenty of time to figure out what you want on your dogs so you don’t get Soup Nazi-ed when you get to the head of line. I prefer the bad dog with chili, bacon and cheese. If you’re going to have a dog, make it worthwhile.

Always a line for fantastic dogs. I’m not even a hot dog fan and I am a fan of this place. The tuna salad is incredible; with banana peppers, tomatoes and potatoes chips sprinkled on top. A must try when on the Cape May beach.

As a kid I was mocked for hating hot dogs. Only a weirdo doesn’t like them, right? Then I got older and could appreciate an Italian hot dog(the more the merrier to mask the actual dog). Well two couples that are good friends swore by Hot Dog Tommy’s and the testament to his/their genius: my family ate here two days in a row and tried to get there a third but our schedule wouldn’t allow it. In that small take-out-only storefront some true magic is going down. The actual dog is juicy and tasty. The crazy combos(mashed potatoes was one that amazing) all meld and blend perfectly.(And there’s plenty of other goodies — including some frozen drinks that really hit the spot in the summer sun.) There’s always a line down the sidewalk(and into the street, actually) and it’s deserved. Like most places: cash only and pay attention to the various signs explaining where to stand and how to order. Don’t be that person that goofs up the well-oiled machine that is HDT’s.

One of the few places to grab a quick bite in the area. The restaurant is just a walk-up window, so you get your food fast. I recommend taking your meal to a bench across the street by the beach because there is no seating there. Not the highest quality food, but you’re on the beach, so… Had the chili bad dog, pretty good flavor. I probably wouldn’t have been full, but happened to bring an apple and bagel chips along. The service was really great, everyone was so friendly! Definitely a solid option for a quick, inexpensive meal in Cape May.
