Made two visits recently. On the first the service eas poor with the waiter forgetting to bring the soup that was ordered. My chicken Caesar wrap was was dry on one half while the other half had the usual good dressing. The second visit was better Service was prompt and my husband’s grilled ham and cheese sandwich was huge. This has been a frequent lunch option for us on our visits to Cape May.

I liked the concept of mugs hanging by the ceiling. Liked the outdoor seating. Service was ok. Food we ordered were burger with cajun seasoning, french fries and dry rubbed jerk chicken wings. They were ok. Had ugly mug seasonal draft beer which was a lemon shandy. It was good, light and refreshing. Pretty much this place is not bad but not the best either.

We opted to dine outside and enjoy the nice weather. Friendly and fast service! Food was tasty and good. I had the grilled chicken sandwich. The cheeseburgers were huge, served with chips and pickles. Everything was really good. Decent prices for the amount of food that you get!

It’s a tradition for our group, so I find it hard not to give it 5 stars. We’ve been going there as part of our annual trip to Cape May for ~30 years. It has stood the test of time. Their menu has evolved and so have our tastes. Poppers and mini tacos used to be our favorites. Their crab cakes continue to be excellent. This year we discovered the salmon salad. It’s a winner!

I don’t know why this place has just low rating! For me if you expect to much about it ! The service was great! The food is ok! And we sitting out side with cucumber martini! That easier to make a cape may trip better!

This place was crowded which is usually a good indicator, but not this time. The casual bar and grill fare was terrible. Burgers were greasy, mushrooms that were supposed to be blackened came straight out of a jar. The atmosphere was dark and dingy. The only redeeming quality was the service. Awful food.

When guests walk into your restaurant, try to seat them at a table versus pointing them to go look for hostess. And if you’re not the person who seats the guests, greet them and tell them to kindly wait while you go find the hostess! You certainly don’t have them walk around the entire restaurant looking for someone to seat them. The food? Meh

This is a 3 star restaurant, no more, no less. 6 of us had lunch there yesterday. Service was ok, not great, food was ok, not great. Lunch items included veggie quesadillas, crab soup, the burger, chicken chipotle sandwich, fried oyster sandwich, and a disappointing crab cake. Story of the mugs was interesting but that won’t be enough if you’re looking for an outstanding meal.

Stopped in for lunch when doing the sites in Cape May. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Very nice people here and a nice friendly atmosphere. The place looks real cool also. Give it a try.

My wife and I went there for lunch. The food was good and service efficient. The whole mug theme hanging from the ceiling was pretty cool and unusual. We had been there before and liked it then as well– many years ago. The place is much what you would expect– a pub. Give it a try for lunch or a beer.

So, the ugly mug is an icon in Cape May but I just wish it would hold its own more than it does when it comes to being a cool bar & earning its rep. I was here tonight to see a band. And that I did. The band was GREAT! If not for the band, I’m sure we would have stayed elsewhere. The bar is mediocre as usual. The very pregnant bartender was friendly but slow, as she should have been being 7 – 8 months pregnant…& definitely did not want to be bothered regularly. She was running around & looked tired at 1am. While i commend her for earning a living & not living off the system of taxpayers, it stinks to be a patron having to deal with that. Regardless, the beer list can definitely be improved… a bit more crafts are needed. We ordered some food & it is just typical bar food… fried & served sloppily. One item were the wings served with NO napkins… had to ask. Kind of silly. There were some large creative cocktails that were served & everyone seemed to enjoy. It is tough to talk over the music but that is to be expected with the extremely low ceiling & bad acoustics. Nothing that can be changed. It is ok on the clean chart. The bathroom could have used a little more attention. People will just continue to come here because it’s the Mug but it would be nice if the place respected that more & gave a little more love back.

So much nostalgia. The Ugly Mug was my childhood bar of choice in Cape May. Which… I realize sounds odd, but little-me knew what she liked! Every time I came here growing up, I ordered the SAME platter: the chicken salad sandwich, on white bread, with chips. It had been almost a decade since my last visit, but you can bet I still ordered that chicken salad sandwich on Saturday night. This time I just asked for it to be topped with bacon. It was still just as good as I remembered! They sure do pack the chicken salad in. Don’t expect the healthy stuff, either. This is a classic, mayonnaise-filled chicken salad. Their beer list is, um, unfortunate for the most part. Unless you like terrible domestics. Then you’re in great luck! They carry every brand of water that you could possibly desire, and their current«Ugly Mug Seasonal,» in case you were wondering, is the Leinenkugel summer shandy. Woo-hoo. They did have Cape May Brewing Company’s Blonde *and* Coastal Evacuation DIPA, so props there. I just feel like they could pull so many more people in if they added a even just few more solid craft options.

The name of the restaurant was honestly what got me to go in. We stopped for a quick lunch on a Sunday afternoon so we only went for sandwiches. My boyfriend got the pork sandwich and fries, he said it was delicious and super filling. I liked the fries because it was very lightly salted so that makes it easy for the consumer to control the salt portion. I had the crab salad sandwich on wheat, and what can i say, it was HUGE, a very generous amount of crab salad and it was full of actual crab meat that tasted very fresh and delicious. The prices were very good for the amount of food we got and how good it was. Our server was really fast and paid attention to our table even though she had plenty of table to take care of, the place was really packed but that never made our experience less convenient.

Family went here as soon as we got into town and were starving. Didn’t disappoint. Manhattan clam chowder, lobster roll, crab cake sandwich, chipotle chicken panini were all delicious. My mom ordered the lobster roll and made me wish I had. The meat was minced up like a salad, where so many other places in Cape May serve it up in huge chunks that taste a little too overwhelming for me. Fresh cut fries were delicious, too. I also enjoyed my crab cake sandwich, large and good to share. Mine came with a bag of Wise potato chips which was a little disappointing, but we learned that several of the restaurants here do that. There were several more dishes I would’ve liked to try on the menu after seeing how yummy our entrees were. If you sit inside, the mug décor is really cool and true to the establishment’s name! Good food, fair price.

We stopped here on our recent trip to cape may for lunch. It was amazing. It is conveniently located in the shopping center district of the town. The outside seating is enclosed and plentiful. The service was extremely quick for it being so busy as well. I had the French dip sandwich, which was in no-way shy on meat. I’m a long time fan of French dip sandwiches and this one set the bar high.

Mixed reviews here… half of our party enjoyed their food, the other half didn’t. Wings were dry and not seasoned well. Clam strips and clams on the half shell were good. For entrees, the lobster rolls were very good. .the best I’ve had in jersey. Just a bit off from Cape cod. Lumps of lobsta were smaller, a bit too much mayo and the seasoning was off just a tad. Just a severe comparison to my favorite ever from grace church in Martha’s vineyard. Also, being a former crab cake connoisseur from Maryland, the crab cake was a significant disappointment. However, for the average Joe, both probably wouldn’t disappoiint. Drinks were good, but expensive. Service was good. Overall, a solid bar.

Horrible, horrible, horrible. This place has had its day and they just don’t give a $h!t anymore. Bartenders cant even pour a decent glass of Guinness and their fish and chips was frozen-tasteless-crap(mind you they are a located in a port-village) and the chips were cold and stale… my only saving grace was to drown it in malted vinegar and wash it down with an abhorrently poured pint of Guinness . I would not recommend this place if you are in the area, there are PLENTY of other local spots that offer much better food and drink… keep walking! The place could use a good cleaning too, seems very unkempt.

We were sitting outside, which was great! Until a massive storm rolled through and torrentially down poured on us and our food. Ugly Mug saved the day! They acted quickly, seating us at an open table inside and replacing food/heating food as needed. The service was really great, so for that, I’d suggest it! The drink list is fun. I went with the Banana Colada and it hit the summer spot. The food wasn’t epic, but it was solid. Pretty standard for a family friendly bar restaurant vibe. I suggest the cheese and fruit plate and also the Chicken Chipotle sandwich had a nice big portion of guacamole on the side so that’s a winner too.

Great bar, good beer selection. Fun interiors. Had a salad that was pretty weak, but very large, big enough for two people. I would stick to more standard bar food if you’re going to eat here. Service was fine.
