Got the steak nachos. Not as great as I imagined. They didn’t really season the steak at all? The queso drizzled on the nachos was ok, very savory but watery too? It was a confusing experience. And the steak itself was very fatty, not lean. Just ok.

Don Taco: this is the best late night food in Carbondale, however, it’s nothing special. Don’t go here when you’re sober, it’s a late night kinda place that you should go to after several drinks, take it from just about every other review. I always get the steak quesadillas minus the beans and am never disappointed; they load them with a lot of steak and good cheese. tip them and they will even put extra on it. My main complaint is that it’s slightly over priced. One Of the best parts about it was that they were open until 3 or 4am. However, they now close at 1 because of some dispute with their land lord

Visited this place at least once a week during college, mostly on our way home from the bars. I visited on this past Tuesday during the day and the service was great. My wife and I both got the shrimp nachos, which is our favorite from the college days. Every time we are in Carbondale we make a point to stop on and chow down on some nachos.

Me and my SO came here for dinner one night and the place was packed, which to both of us meant the food would be good right? I don’t think so. I ordered a veggie burrito that lacked superbly with flavor, that I could only go a few bites in until I gave up. Not even the sauces they provided gave any ounce of flavor. My SO even disliked the food. As he ate his first bites he kept shaking his head and saying «this isn’t Mexican food». I agree. Btw, he ordered a beef burrito. If you want good food, don’t waste your money here.

I’ve been out of the area for a few years, but I recalled this place being pretty good. That was not the case this week. A handful of lettuce, a handful of tomatoes and a pinch of unseasoned steak wrapped (very loosely) in a cold tortilla does not a burrito make. A bit disappointing. Two stars because the queso was OK, I guess.

Most people from SIU would argue that Don Taco is either the worst place on Earth or their experience is a cosmic dance of bursting decadence and withheld permissions that twists all our arms collectively. There was a time when I could only afford one meal a week. I would be on my last few dollars and spend it on Nachos Don Taco every time. All the meats, simultaneously blending in my mouth to form a delicious juxtaposition of flavors that has yet to be duplicated by any other Mexican food eatery. Go to this place, eat their food and love yourself.

Don Taco is the best after a late night. The nachos are AMAZING and everyone usually meets there around 2am. Whatever you do, don’t ask them for a glass of water though, they’re real sticklers about that!

In a town with bad Mexican food, you have to ask yourself, better or worse then Taco Bell’s expensive menu? Don Taco is worse. Other reviewers give high praise to the nachos, but they aren’t even average. Much better at Moe’s, if you want cheese dip it is much better at Chili’s, and both those places are average at best. The Don Taco meat scares me, rubber off a hot plate. Someday, I hope each of the people who gave this dump a positive review eats at a west coast hole in the wall Mexican place with good food. Don Taco ain’t it.

Love me some Don Taco chicken nachos and a shrimp taco! The quality of their chips and cheese make them so good. My wife loves their chimichanga meal. Friendly staff and excellent service.

Do you like tacos? Please don’t confuse the hard, Americanized taco shell with what’s served here. Flour tortilla’s are grilled and topped with whatever you choose. Try the chorizo. It’s topped with fresh pico and cilantro. A lime would’ve put it over the top. Good food for starving college kids. Every Saluki should eat here on a regular basis.

I am usually iffy about the beans at Mexican restaurants, but the food was actually really good here. It was my first time so I played it safe with the bean and cheese burrito combo. It was a lot of food which made it worth the price and it was very delicious. They had veggie options which was nice too. I am definitely going to return. :)

I always stop here when I am in Carbondale and drunk and get the don nachos, very filling and can feed at least 2 people or if you are like me, 1 very skinny, fat, hungry, girl.

As sad it is to say, I am addicted to Don Taco. I love love love their goat cheese that they put on the nachos. When ever I eat there I always get steak and cheese nachos. The prices are reasonable. although one of the workers did tell me they raised their prices.
