We stayed overnight in Carlisle on a trip to WV and we were looking for a nice local place for dinner and drinks. Downtown Carlisle is a cute area but on a Wednesday night is a bit sleepy. We sat at the bar, the husband enjoyed the Porter, brewed onsite. I had a beer sampler $ 7.50 for four 4oz draft beers on tap. They had many great beers to choose from and I enjoyed all the ones I tried. We also split the shepherds pie(lamb) which was delicious. I loved it! A bit small for two, and a bit much for one, although it came with a salad. We left after eating as we wanted to walk the downtown area. On our way back we noticed it was closed by 11.

Strange, dark, dank bar. The irish pub theme was very lost in translation. Didn’t eat here just ordered one drink which i didnt even finish then we left. Micro selection was descent.

While wandering around Carlisle looking for some local unique shops, we stopped a local and asked for a lunch recommendation. She suggested this place, so we walked over. It’s listed on Unilocal as American(Traditional) cuisine, but it’s an English pub. The atmosphere is cool. It’s dimly lit, the building is clearly very aged. The menu has a lot of options. The waitress was friendly and kind, the prices were ok. Our drinks were never empty. I’d like to go back and try some of their heavier traditional English dishes like Shepherd’s Pie or Bangers and Mash, but we decided to go for sandwiches since it was lunch time. We both ordered the chicken cheesesteak sandwich. My first impression was that there wasn’t enough meat to fill the bread, which was a delicious french roll. But, that sandwich was so packed with flavor and it was so juicy that I’d happily order it again. It was around $ 7.95 and was served with chips and a pickle spear. I ordered a children’s chicken strip and it was a little disappointing. My kids, who normally suck down fruit, wouldn’t eat the«fruit salad» side option. It was mostly really mushy pineapple. The $ 6 basket came with a good amount of fries, but only came with two chicken strips, and one was half the size of the other and they were very well done. I’d really like to try this place again, because I liked the atmosphere a lot, but kids meal lost a star for me. I’ll update it when I eventually make my way back there :-)

Loved the authentic atmosphere of the Market Cross Pub & Brewery. They have a fantastic menu of craft beer both Brewer in house & guest brewer’s. We enjoyed Ommegang’s Abbey Ale & Monk’s a Café Flemish a Sour Ale. The waitress we had was terrific with a lot knowledge of both the menu & beer offerings. Also liked the fact that it’s located downtown walking distance from many hotels. If you are spending time in Carlisle I’d definitely stop.

We stopped here on our way back home to NY from Virginia. The staff was very nice and they have a fantastic beer selection. Food was so so. We ordered the soft pretzels which were fantastic. A cheese plate that was a big let down. Squares of generic cheeses, nothing that doesn’t go on a basic grilled cheese sandwich. We had a burger and steak sandwich. We ordered medium and medium rare respectively and we’re both well done. It’s a pet peeve of mine to get a little angry when cooks can’t figure out meat temperatures. Clean up this issue and I would love to give another shot next time we drive through.

Once I decided to take a week off and visit friends in Lancaster County I also decided that I would take two days to get there from Pittsburgh in order to enjoy some good beers at a few breweries along the way. My search for breweries yielded an impressive list that I slowly whittled down to places that I would be near and what would be open as I was nearby. Market Cross Pub in Carlisle was to be my first stop. I cannot comment on the food as I only had the pretzel sticks as a snack with my beer flight. But I can say that the beers were better than I expected upon walking in. When I arrived shortly after noon, there were only a few patrons(two at the bar, one at a booth). It was not brightly lit, the music from the jukebox was not very loud and the Little League World Series was on the TV creating a mellow atmosphere. Perfect for enjoying a few microbrews.(Though there is also outdoor seating available at a few tables out front.) I went with a flight of what was currently available from Market Cross Brewery. My flight included Carburetor Kolsch, Midsummer Knight’s Wheat, English Red Ale and English Red Ale on cask. I was not a fan of the red ale on cask. The kolsch was not dull as I’ve come to expect from others. The English Red Ale was a typical red ale, not a standout but not a disappointment. Midsummer Knight’s Wheat was my favorite of the bunch, with a nice orange flavor. My bartender was friendly and attentive. I would recommend Market Cross Pub for a pint or two if you’re in the neighborhood. If you don’t think you’d like their beers, they have several other craft brew options. But I think you’re missing out if you don’t at least give their own beers a try.

A mixture of good and bad. The food had frozen corn which was a turn off but the potatoes and beef tips were perfect. The reason for 3 stars was the beer tap lines needed cleaning leaving just bad tasting beer… the worst.

Truly my favorite pub that I’ve ever been to in the states. I’ve got friends and family that have been coming here for decades. Seriously good eats and incredible beer selections. The owners are fabulous, the brewer works hard and makes incredible beer, the waitstaff is hands down the kindest and most attentive. The best location of downtown Carlisle — and such a nice looking pub. The vibe inside is extremely comfortable and friendly. Monday night trivia is seriously the most fun night. They’ve got something going on every night — special deals/steak night/wing night/trivia/glass night/brewery tours/great military discount… etc. It is a very inviting place and there are all types of people who walk through that door. Great for group parties, kids and just to sit at the bar and relax. Also great for a date night. Nice to find a pub with their own brewery in the back too. Please go and enjoy sometime, you won’t be disappointed!

I visited here for the first time on 5÷30÷15 and was pleasantly surprised! Our server was very fast and attentive. I ordered the potato skins and they were great! The order was actually much larger than I expected. They basically give you three big potatoes, gutted, and cut in half. Couldn’t manage to finish them and had to take them home. They have a great beer selection. Nice atmosphere. I’d definitely go back!

Gotta agree with Matthew H the bruschetta is outstanding. The service is awesome. The lunch sizes are big. We had the brei and ham and the beef pastie. The sandwich was great but the pastie was just like it is made back in england… Brilliant! The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The bathroom is very clean. Parking is free on the weekend. on Thursdays. Downtown Carlisle is beautiful. Overall 5 star… I will come back to try the massive chicken pot pie next time.

Don’t let the pictures on the website fool you. This place is a dive, which fits right in with the dive town of Carlisle. The food was below average, the digs ditto. The bump to two stars is due to the very good service and attention by our friendly server.

Bruschetta is AWESOME In the road I find disappointment food at least twice a day– this place makes up for that crappy breakfast sandwich in Cumberland, it’s a bar with a good vibe that has a menu with lots of time and skill behind it– I hope the deal I’m working on comes back so I can come back!

I have been here several times, and it is has always been a good experience. First, it has a good beer selection, and they are not overpriced. It has the typical pub feel, and this is an English pub. The menu is what you would expect for a pub, and has some traditional English meals. I chose to try the crab cake sandwich, which I was not quite sure of how it would be. I am usually hesitant about ordering seafood at a place like that. However, I thought it was very good. It was not fake crab, and came with a good tartar sauce. My boyfriend ordered the special, the honey glazed pork sirloin. He really enjoyed it, and liked the macaroni that came with it, which had gouda cheese.

This is a good place for beer, but the food is a bit hit-or-miss. Market Cross Pub is a staple in Carlisle, and it has been busy pretty much every night I’ve stopped by. There are two main dining areas, one small one by the bar as you walk in, and another back around to the right, and it seems to be seat yourself at all times. They do also have a private room in the back, so if you’ve got a big group you can probably call to get it reserved and get your own server. The service has been friendly enough, and the kitchen seems to put out food at a reasonable clip. The beer selection isn’t huge, but it is pretty good, and the couple I have tried(including a decent brown ale and a somewhat plain red ale) have been fine if unremarkable. The food seems to be a crapshoot though; the hamburger was remarkable only for being drier than any I’ve ever had, but the steak tips and guiness gravy was okay, the bangers and mash were good, and the garlic rosemary pork sirloin was actually quite good(not over cooked, seasoned well, and a big portion). Overall not my first choice for dining in Carlisle, but if you want a beer and some basic pub grub, it’s not a bad choice.

Impressed for sure I ordered the Tuscan pasta with lump crab meat. F+x=% € great!!! Honestly needs no meat at all the sun dried tomatoes add a meatiness to the pasta that is incredible. I read reviews and I’ve had nothing but spot on services. But I sat at the bar. Beer selection awesome! Must go and check this place out! Especially if you’re from out of town. !!! Cheers! !!!
