I popped in here needing to pick up a few things. I actually had to try and buy something so it wasn’t a wasted visit… THEGOOD… –prices seemed low, but they should be based on what they had THEBAD… –inside of store is very outdated –selection is pretty pitiful… no organic anything… lots of generic brands –seafood dept had no wild caught salmon nor could I find frozen –produce didn’t offer anything local Overall, this grocery store is junk. There must be minimal options in the area if this joint can stay afloat. Major pass on it!

There are much better grocery stores in the area than this one. I would travel ten miles to avoid this store. The selection is horriable unless u like the Shurfine brand, customer service nominal and the priciest are extremely high even the off brand!

I’m here all of the time it seems — it’s close to work and the grocery store nearest to our house. Nell’s being Nell’s, they have a couple of items that you can’t find else where that are worth trying. The first is their fried chicken… it’s just stupid good. Whenever we have a sports picnic or some other potluck event, I pick up a big 48 piece box for 35.99 and everyone will then rave over how good it is. The pieces are big, seasoned well, and crispy. The other thing to try is the croissant doughnuts. Giant makes them too, but Nell’s are the right ratio of croissant to glaze and basically melt in your mouth. Go early, they tend to sell out fast sometimes. Really, all of their doughnuts are pretty good. Notable mention is Nell’s actually gets better wild caught fish options than Giant on any given week and their prices are better. Given, the selection is not as large, but I’d rather not have the farm raised options anyways My knock is not enough organic meats and some of the staff are a little eccentric, but they seem to have very little turn over(always the same faces) so they must be a decent employer.

Every time I go into Shurfine, I have some kind of a meltdown. From going in at 9:00 at night to pick-up a few items and getting stuck behind a woman with $ 200 worth of groceries to getting behind yet another winner with their basketload of items in the Express Lane or their lack of ability to remember to take the .03 cents off for using the reusable bag, it’s always something. When you enter Shurfine, there is inevitably a sign in the door window that says that they’ve had a misprint in their flier and such and such is not on sale or it’s more than advertised. I think the other day was the first time I saw that the ad was printed incorrectly in the customer’s favour. They are truly unbelievable. Especially when you consider that you never see these compulsively posted«error» signs in Giant or Karns’ stores or their fliers. Apparently Shurfine, in addition to paying their drones minimum wage to assure that their IQs are somewhere in the median of your average squashed grape, also hires people are borderline illiterate. It was okay once. Twice, well, they’re having a bad time, but by the third time of the misprint, who the hell is reading these things? Are they being proofread in braille? A few weeks ago, my mother went to buy a hot dog for lunch and some coffee. The girl at that register, in their new eat-in area, just kind of gestured at everything she needed. Didn’t offer to help her and then when my mother asked her if she could pay there, she declared that no, she could not. Obviously Miss Eat-in-the-Grocery-Store-Checker-Girl was not actually using the register, she was just leaning on it while she filed her nails. She was definitely a parody of the apathetic shopgirl. It was not until recently that Shurfine put-up their 10 Items or less limit sign at the Express Lane. What is it about that idea that people don’t understand? Have we stopped learning to count in American schools or do people just blackout? I’m not entirely sure. Regardless, Shurfine is basically a glorified mom and pop operation, but if given the choice, I would drive to Mt Holly Springs to Karn’s in the evening to get what I needed, but that’s pretty impractical. I wish that Shurfine could be more like that Mom and Pop type operation, with an old-fashioned grocery, but with the efficiency and competency of the bigger stores.
