My husband and I stopped in for late night dinner around 9:30pm. We stood around for quite a few minutes waiting to be seated. I was already a little wary once I caught glimpse of the waiters lounging around talking to each other. The place’s atmosphere is not comfortable and the booth we sat in was musty and outdated. I ordered the Prime Rib entrée with the clam chowder soup and house rice. The soup came out luke warm. Not even microwaved hot, just… luke warm. It was bland and I had no care for it. My prime rib also came out cold. I ordered it Medium rare and it was noticably on the rare side. The house rice was salty and crunchy, we only took 3 – 4 bites out of it. My husband ordered the New York steak with clam chowder and steak fries. His steak was actually hot so we ended up switching meals. The steak fries weren’t crispy, it felt like they cooked it a few hours ago and set it on some counter to serve when ordered. He actually ate his clam chowder(after dumping salt and black pepper in it) because he was starving. The bathroom was dirty and the sink had terrible erosion. This is the kind of place you inspect your silverware to check if it’s clean. I didn’t touch my water. The waiters were quiet and polite. The food wasn’t terrible, just not worth the fifty something dollars.

Recommended by my husbands co-worker so we ventured in today The Ballast Point Sculpin on tap was the best beer I have ever tasted The bartender/waitress was very pleasant and right there fast. We ordered the Fish & Chips and it was delicious. Your choice of soup or salad I ordered french onion soup husband ordered salad. The soup was fabulous. I would get it again and again… The salad looked good too. Bonus‼‼ The bread. Great warm bread thats a light & dark swirl w raisins and delicious. We purchased 4 loaves to take home w us. How cool that they sell double loaves for $ 5.50. The fish & chips came with really tasty creamy slaw. I am real picky about slaw, this was great slaw, like my grandmas and better than I make hands down. The fries are big steak cut crispy outside meaty moist real nice and plenty on the plate. Im a foody big eater & lunch & only ate half of them so just saying plenty in this portion The plate had fresh lemon wedges and perfect tartar for the perfectly cooked perfectly breaded chunks of cod. I cannot say enough kind words about this bar restaurant and I will definitely be returning often. Great Food Pleasant Atmosphere Priced Right Easy Parking Craft Beer Delicious Pleasant waitress Loved It

Decent food, but rather overpriced for a place that feels more like a truck stop or diner. The service is mixed. I had a good waitress, but I was put off by the over aggressive guy from the kitchen. The service does not at all match the food prices. I will likely never go back unless they up their game.

I discovered this hidden gem one night at least eight years ago, when was looking for a place to have a late night bite that wasn’t Denny’s or Alberto’s. Luckily I found Koko Beach & I’m glad I did. This place has an old school fancy steak house vibe but that is part of its charm. Frozen in time like an older black angus meets an even older red traction. The place is dimly lit with very low ceiling in the bar, & wine colored patted crescent shaped booths, Vegas vintage ish. One of the reasons why I keep coming back here is the food is actually pretty good, and it’s opened late. I also like that they serve king crab legs & I don’t have to pay $ 50+ for them! With that being said that’s pretty much what I always get. When I’m feeling extra decadent I’ll get it with prime rib which they always have. Dinners here come with choice of soup or salad & a side. They have a soup of the day or French onion which is amazing. Portion size here is good I never leave hungry & most of the time I end up bringing a portion of it home. I’ve also come here during lunch, with a craving for king crab, only on the dinner menu they still let me get it. Give this place a go for a causal surf & turf like they did in the good olé days.

Amazing. I had the yellowtail dinner special. Cozy fireplace & an awesome blonde server.(Don’t know her name) It’s located right next to the Carlsbad Alkaline bottle refill station!

I really like this little place. Here’s the thing. You will love it too if you don’t come here with the expectation that is some sort of HIGHEND steakhouse ~ it’s not. It’s terrific food, friendly service at more than fair price. Their prices are«EXTREMELYLOW» but they still maintain excellent quality on the food and portions. Décor is older but that ads to the charm of the place. They have dinner specials as well. One of the dishes we ordered was the beef ribs(5 big bones) and it came with beans, french fries, salad and bread for $ 15.99. That’s an amazing deal compared to what you would pay at a rib place where you can expect to pay $ 23.00 or more. I have been eating here(not as often as I should) since 2010 and I’m coming back. Full bar as well plus beer and wine. Don’t forget to grab a lollipop on the way out.

I love Koko Beach! It’s a dark, old school, surf and turf place. Reminds me of a place my dad would hangout at after work to get a few beers with his co-workers. We had a «larger» party than normal. We had four adults an infant and my toddler. They sat us at a table for a larger party which was nice! They didn’t try to cram us at a four top. We order drinks and an appetizer which they brought in a timely matter. They then brought our salads and made sure our drinks were always filled. Our meals came and we were all happy about our meals, size, and temperature of our steaks! My toddler ordered the chicken and the vegetables that came on the side were delicious! All in all we were all extremely happy and full when we left! Next time we are in town I will make sure we head back to Koko Beach and get our grub on!

I’ve walked by this place so many times, read their dinner special signs every single time to and had never been till this weekend. We went late on Saturday around 10:30 pm. The place reminds me of an old burnt out steakhouse. Not the nicest place in the world. Restrooms were hot and dirty looking. Food wise, they serve you a complimentary raisin rye bread with butter. Microwaved hot. We only ordered buffalo wings. Typical buffalo wings, nothing special. Interesting place. Kinda dingy inside. I feel like this place has been here forever and needs a makeover lol.

My husband and I just left this restaurant– looked at each other — and said ‘did we just receive the best service ever!!!’. The answer is yes! We are foodies, travel a lot and always appreciate good service but this experience definitely takes the cake. We only stumbled upon this spot because the restaurant we intended to eat at had closed their kitchen so they sent us to Koko’s where they serve food late. There was only a few people at the bar and it was sort of quiet which was not really the scene we were looking for but the bartender was the absolute best! He talked about the local scene, craft beer options and recommended other things to check out in the area. We could have sat and talked with him all night! We enjoyed talking with him so much that we both tipped him and ended up leaving 50% because anything less for that type of service seemed wrong. If you are looking for good conversation, service and food come see Joe at Koko Beach.

Great location right on Carlsbad Blvd. Meals were great however took a while to come out! Seating options were limited but we did have a group of 6. Portion sizes were large and prices were adequate for the quantity of food. Buffalo wings as an appetiser were great! Highly suggest trying the Cajun rib eye as the spices were amazing!

If you are Gluten-Free, please don’t even look at the Marble Bread. It is so good you will want to make yourself sick. Start off with a house salad or the French Onion Soup(which also features the Marble Bread). One of the reasons why I frequent Koko Beach is because they are one of the few places open late night for dining in North County. This town is very limited to Mexican Food, 3rd Corner in Encinitas, or a few others. The bartenders and servers as well as bus staff have always helped me promptly even when it is 20 minutes before the kitchen closes. The Shrimp Scampi is great but does not come with Pasta. I’ve had some delicious Prime Rib here with veggies and a few times, the French Dip sandwich add lettuce and tomato. I’ve also met both owners and had a brief conversation with them. It’s always nice to talk with the owners and have a good experience doing so. They get fresh seafood delivered daily so I highly recommend the seafood, but the steaks are quality too. Kitchen is open nightly until Midnight so come enjoy a late night meal. Also, they serve Alkaline water from next door so that’s amazing and refreshing, especially after a long day. I’ll be back again this week!

Go to Koko’s for their Prime Rib and French Onion soup. They serve affordable prime rib dinners for cheap(small cut is $ 14.95). Everything else at Koko’s is okay. They have diner food. The service is decent, there’s plenty of parking and you’re in a nice part of Carlsbad.

My family and I were visiting Carlsbad INN Beach Resort, and we were recommended this place by one of the front desk attendants. We all enjoyed the food. I had the onion soup and the Mahi Mahi. Both were good. Prices were also good, not over priced. Our waitress was really nice. The bust boys were also very nice, they made sure our table was always attended too. I’d recommended there seafood. All tastes pretty good. My only criticism for having 4⁄5 starts is the restaurant looks very outdated. The furniture is a little old, the wall paintings make the restaurant look really dark. A little upgrading to the look of the restaurant would be good.

Our lucky streak of fantastic food in Carlsbad is still intact! Tonight we decided to check out a little«local» dinner place. We wanted Real Food… Not tasting plates and 2 ounces of fish for a small mortgage payment. We were happy to find this place! The lighting is dim, with booths that offer a little bit of separation from the tables closest. I had the prime rib with king crab legs, and a baked potato. I was astounded at how much crab I received! My handsome date had the 16 ounce prime rib with raw horseradish, and a baked potato. We both liked the dinner salads with bleu cheese; nothing fancy but the croutons were homemade, as I suspect the dressing was. We ordered dessert to go and the bill was under $ 70. We left utterly stuffed and pleased.

This afternoon I had a late lunch with family. They recommended KoKo for their burgers. Our server was very polite. She took great care of us, glasses were never empty, and dirty(empty) dishes were never left on the table for long. As for the food, everything(minus the dinner salad which was rather boring) was outstanding. The burgers were very tasty and a great portion. The ribs were meaty, not fatty, and huge; Great size. I highly recommend going during lunch. They have excellent specials at great prices. The lunch burger special comes with soup or salad as well as a side for just 7.95. Talk about a steal.

I cannot believe I have never written a review for KoKo Beach. It is literally our go-to, inexpensive, late night dinner venue. We also stop in for happy hour, which is always off the charts. I have to admit, the first time I dined at KoKo Beach I was a skeptic. The venue is dark, moody, and screams old school steak house. From prior patrons, I was recommended to try the wings and the french onion soup– both of which I could kill for. And let me tell you– KoKo Beach does it right. I cannot step foot in this establishment without ordering the french onion soup. My bf always orders the prime rib, which I should really order as well, because I end up eating half of his. The horseradish they serve on the side makes the prime rib. It is the best I have ever had– I crave it. Which is probably why I am meeting a girlfriend tonight at KoKo Beach. We have already agreed ahead of time to share a prime rib– score! The sides are great as well. We usually order the baked potato and a side salad. Order their blue cheese– there is something unique and amazing about it. Huge plus: their kitchen is open until midnight. So for all you late night diners– this is your spot! Inexpensive cocktails and inexpensive great food. What more could you ask for?
