This place is pretty dang good! If you’re a kid at heart, like me, you MUST try the chicken tenders with fresh fruit. You get four HUGE, juicy, crisped to perfection tenders and slices of sweet, ripe cantaloupe and honeydew melon. Other things to try: Chefs salad — fresh and loaded with deli meats and cheese! Sweet Potato Fries — a staple must have. Chipotle Chicken Wrap — sooo good! I would suggest not ordering anytgung with Ceaser dressing, they make it in house so its either a hit or a BIG miss. A little pricey but better then anything else in this mall.

Great food, efficient cheerful service and convenient cool location! And an iced decaf Americano. The chicken salad sandwich on raisin bread is PERFECT! The split pea soup was flavorful, the side salad fresh and lovely(see picture). The Ultimate Cheddar Cheeseburger was on special today and comes with bacon and sautéed mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, choice of fries/sweet potato fries/salad gem or Caesar. I remember reading at a Macy’s Café with this awesome sandwich when I was growing up in Orange County. We will be back with my evened family and friends!

My coworker and I ordered a cobb salad to share and asked for Ranch and Bleu Cheese on the side, but to toss the toppings in the salad to mix it up. When I went to pick up the order I noticed no dressing in to go containers so I asked about it. He said he tossed the salad with the dressings, mixed. When I said that’s not how we ordered it he rudely said, how else would I toss it?! Then I said, we’ll she doesn’t like bleu cheese and he told me not to say anything to her. I said what if she’s allergic? He just gave me so much attitude. I’m a mall employee and we order food from this restaurant a lot. I will not be giving my money and services there any more. Sam needs to be replaced with someone who actually likes their job.

Love this hidden gem! I work in the mall so coming here is a way to get an affordable meal with super fast and excellent service. I love the hamburgers and sweet potato fries.

The old man named Sam was very rude and lacked hospitality. He has no patience with kids. My niece tried to order her All American burger without mayo and veggies etc. And he yelled at her and also yelled at my other nephews. He was very condescending. Which I corrected him. When are meals came out, they were all wrong and even the drinks. This old man needs to retire. I will never recommend this place to any one. Also, let me add this place discriminates against the young, so if your old they will treat you better.

I was there about two weeks ago for the first time. My friend and I were looking forward to trying this place. But we soon found it was a huge mistake! They lack of staff and the only old man that’s there is a total jerk. He told us we were picky and was rushing our orders he wouldn’t even let us finish and would start walking away. I had never been to a place like that! When he first made a rude comment we were getting ready to leave and he did not care he actually took our menus away and then continued to be rude until I paid. I than asked if there was a manager and he said HE was the manager! Really?! I honestly didn’t believe him since he was the only one there but if it was true that is so Sad! Somebody needs to do something about that man.

This place is disgusting. The old guy that was working was a total jerk and it took him at least 5 minutes to come to our table to take our drink order, and there were only 2 other people in the restaurant. There were 9 of us, he took 2 drink orders and started to walk away. Then when he brought the drinks, the glasses were filthy! Lipstick on the wine glasses, and some layer of pond scum on the other glasses. No way we were going to eat here. He was so rude when we asked for our check. He even made a comment, «Jesus Christ. These people are crazy.» Wow! This place should be shut down! Macy’s should be embarrassed to have this café in their store.

Had to drive up to LA so I stopped by New World Café and ordered the chicken club. The service was great and each employee was very nice. Their chicken was tender — I was very pleased.

Great food… It’s really quite so if you want to sit and relax after a long day of shopping it’s the perfect place to have lunch. I usually get the Santa Fe chicken sandwich and it never fails to hit the spot.

Came here for a little bite and a glass of wine while shopping. I ordered the pesto pasta… When it came out, it was white and creamy. Definitely fettuccine Alfredo. I asked about it and the waiter/host(I think also owner) told me it was the pesto. I’ve uploaded a photo. After I said I didn’t want anything else as a substitute(if they think pesto is white, I don’t trust them to feed me), I got completely ignored. Oh, except that a woman whom I assume was the wife/co-owner sat across from me and stared me down for a good 15 minutes. Awkward, awkward, awkward. She finally came over and told me I could pay upfront, and the gentleman was very nice while I checked out, but I certainly would not recommend this place to anyone.

Hiding in plain view, New World Café is a fair option for those looking for a sit-down meal after a few hours of shopping and hunting down deals. The food, 9 times out of 10, is superb and Sam(the man who will not only greet you at the entrance but whom will also be bringing you your drinks, serving you your food, and supplying you with the check) is 9 times out of 10 quite the cordial guy. It is generally quiet and near-empty aside from the staff(seemingly just Sam and the kitchen crew) I’d say that makes it all the more relaxing. I’ve enjoyed the Southern California Wrap with a side of fries on a few occasions. SO filling and tastes very fresh. The menu is rather diverse, offering up a little bit of everything. Sam is also exceptionally knowledgable of his menu and makes good recommendations! The ambiance/décor could use some major updating! If we take the title of this establishment«New World Café» and we then gander at the western/desert sort of theme going on, the two just don’t add up to much sense.(Feels like a tumbleweed could just roll on past’ya at any time during your meal!) Personally, I find that the décor should count somewhat alongside the tastiness of the food. At least invest in some new lighting! Dark lights, dim lights, bright lights: give our eyes consistency! Prices, oi vey. Sure aren’t the highest prices in town, but they sure don’t seem like the most reasonable! I try to make sense of them: are they what they are because the restaurant is located within a Macy’s? Is it because they must compensate for the routine emptiness/lack of heavy business? Just for fun? Sometimes I feel really swindled by the price of a meal and consider not returning for that reason, most of the time I am grateful there is a restaurant to order from instead of having to select from the random fast food chains scattered here and there in the Carlsbad mall, and the food satisfies. Not bad! Fun to find, most people don’t believe me when I say there’s a restaurant in Macy’s. ;)

My wife and I were in the mall when we started talking about getting lunch. I noticed a sign for the«New World Café & Grill» as we entered the mall earlier. We decided to give it a chance. I was a little skeptical at first with it being in the women’s portion on Macy’s. That and there was no one else seated. We were alone, just my wife, our daughter and myself. My wife ordered the Symphony Salad, I got the Southern California Wrap and chicken fingers for the little one. The food came quicker than I expected, though that could have been because we were the only orders. My wrap was delicious. My wife said hers was the best salad she had ever had. Next time we are shopping we will be eating here if it is lunchtime.

I have visited Macy’s New World Café 3 times this Holiday season 2013. Two of three times have been horrible. Went a day after Christmas and waited a hour and never got my meal. I was told to come back and meal will be free. Ordered same meal following day with no mushrooms and my sandwich was loaded with mushrooms. Are you kidding me?!? I’ll never go back. Manager who runs is very nice but totally lacking in staff.

I like this place to grab a nicer table service meal while shopping. They don’t advertise as far as I know, which doesn’t make sense as it’s never busy. But they have some decent sandwiches and salads or soup.

Back in the ‘70s when this store was The Broadway, this was the California Grille. Now that Macy’s owns the store, it’s New World Café, a throwback to a time when department stores(«what are those?») had restaurants for tired shoppers. I don’t think the restaurant décor has been updated since about 1985. Spanish colonial furniture, polished chrome accents on the walls, and harsh flourescent bulbs in the overhead light fixtures. I mean, it’s clean, but ambience it don’t got — in spades. The service is good, not excellent. The gentleman server has, I think, been there since the 80s as well, and he runs the restaurant side all by himself, taking orders, serving, bussing tables and totalling checks. Luckily, there’s never more than half-a-dozen tables occupied(at least, not that I’ve ever seen), thanks to the fact that no one knows the place is there. Those half-dozen tables are predominantly occupied by employees on break, with one or two shoppers. I had a BLT and Ceasar salad that was a time-travel back to the Woolworth’s lunch counter. Now, that’s NOT a bad thing. It was good and tasty, and I certainly needed lunch after junking around the Ghetto Mall for a couple of hours. But it wasn’t anything super special — just what you’d expect from a department store eatery. I will say, however, that the food here is MUCH better than anything else you’ll find in the Ghetto Mall. There are literally NO other sit-down restaurants left in this place; just fast food and counter service tray-and-rack places. So if you want to sit at an actual table and have conversation, rather than cram down questionable Pad Thai while a dozen 8-year-olds with no supervision run screaming rings around your table, this is your only option for doing that.

We’d been wanting to try this place for a while and finally gave it a shot two weeks ago. It was OK. I wasn’t blown away like I thought I’d be through some of the early reviews. We all enjoyed our food, but the service was lacking. There was only one older gentleman taking care of every table(and it was somewhat busy at lunch), and things took some time because of that. He was very friendly, though. Also, the décor of the place is extremely outdated — it could probably use some help from Restaurant Impossible or something in that department, heh. We’ll likely try it again, but I’m not in a major rush to go back. By the way, they accept Macy’s credit cards here. That was something I was wondering for the longest time. Good to know!

My first couple of visits here were pretty good, but after that. It just went down hill. The sweet potato fries are soggy and not prep’d properly for fying, and just overall the food isn’t too good. The service is horrible and you WILL find yourself just standing around will the one male worker there ignores you. Although there aren’t many choices to eat at in this mall, save your money and go elsewhere…

For this place being a little hidden kept secret inside the mall of Macys, its definitely the only place I would go if im ever hungry! Their Salads(chicken ceasar) is the best one ive ever had out of all the main stream chains of restaurant. They serve all the traditional american food and the best part is, they even serve alcohol here! There is no place at this mall that serves liqour and thats what makes this restaurant one step ahead than all the fast food junk here. Its very quiet and hidden, so if your looking for a place to enjoy a very tasty food and not be seen by any familiar faces… NEWWORLDCAFE is it! You dont hear about this place at all unless its word of mouth, hence«New World.»

I’m surprised this place only has one review! I’ve only been to New World Café once, but I’ll write something so that people can learn about this hidden gem! IMPORTANT: New World Café is in the Westfield Mall, *INSIDE* MACY’S(2nd floor, women’s department). It’s actually really hard to spot — there’s barely any signage, and it’s tucked away in a corner, like a fitting room… You’ll have to want it to find it. :) It’s worth the effort; it’s the only legit, sit-down restaurant in the mall. Everything else is fast food. The Food: Good quality, good prices. I had the grilled cheese with bacon and a side of Caesar salad. Portions were good. My friend had a hamburger with a side of onion rings. These ONIONRINGS were to die for! Fresh, crispy, beer-battered onion rings! They were actually some of the best I’ve ever had. The Service: Very friendly. No wait during lunch — what?! We came around noon on a weekday and were seated immediately. Only 3 other tables had occupants. Most of them were employees from the mall. The Ambience: Quaint, clean, quiet. It’s so hidden that you kind of forget you’re still in Macy’s. The art is pleasant and homey, literally; all the paintings were of houses in forests and the countryside. If you find yourself at the mall with a friend and want a nice place to chat over a meal, give this place a try! Again, I’ve only been here one time, but I had a great, initial experience. Hoping you do, too!
