Get to tell you, I was grumpy and getting hungry. After drinking and eating, then walking to the beach, then up to Svendsgaard Hotel, we decided to walk to an Italian place a few blocks away. My wife noticed Brophys Tavern. Reluctantly I went in. Quickly, we were greeted by the manager Riva. Two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc we ordered the fish and chips. WOW! We were both surprised how good the fish was. Perfect crunchy thin crust with great fish. The fries were perfect. Better than FISH in Salsalito and $ 7 less. Riva… Happy Birthday today to a great friendly restauranteur! We will come back for the Burger!

Carmel-By-The-Sea * Fish n Chips — 2.5 pieces of okay tasting fish. Batter more greasy than flavorful. Complete disappoint this dish is in their top 3. Borderline comical. — Steak Fries were soggy and basic as basic does. — Slaw on the side a real surprise and the only saving grace. Very light, well seasoned and tasted really good. $ 15.00 for a $ 7.50 plate of food. Note: They«newly reopened — revised» Brophys has made some noticeable changes. The only thing that’s the same from the old place is location of bar, restrooms and TV’s. Note: The Brophy Burger, Fish n Chips and the grilled cheese n tomato soup are best sellers. NOMOREBUFFALOWINGS — WTF!!! Summary: Face it this is the same Brophys but with a facelift, sure new stuff on walls and fancier looking menus — take a good look at my menu pic… Grease on it. Point is — this is still the locals, hole in the wall spot it’s always been — stop trying to be something you’re not. And get those Wings back, at least they taste good. * 5th visit — 4 before the update and one post update. First review. * The server — he was very helpful, did a great job and deserved a great tip taking into consideration it’s not his fault what is on the menu.

Inviting décor, atmosphere. On a weeknight, parking was available within half a block. The place was hopping – almost every seat taken – and they were probably one staffer short of real efficiency. The bartender was certainly earning her pay, and then some. It’s a small place, so I’m sure it can seem a bit cramped at times. Good prices on draft beer(especially considering that it’s Carmel). Menu looks tempting.(I’ll have to try the calamari, fish & chips, or grilled cheese-soup combo next time.) The POS system right in front of the TV that’s behind the bar needs to be moved.

Stopped in for lunch on Monday at 11:30 and we were the only ones in place. My husband had the fish and chips, I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup. We both liked everything, the soup was just okay. It seemed a little pricey for what it was but I know the area is expensive so it’s fitting. It has a fun vibe inside and we be excellent service.

My SO and I stopped by for dinner and stumbled upon their re-opening under new management. I enjoyed the Brophy Burger and calamari app; both were well season, hot and fresh, and presented nicely and quickly for us. No complaints and nothing but good things to say. Hoping their business a long and fruitful existence. The bartender we had was quick to serve us up and kept things lively. Something to be said about checking in on your customer and feeling sincerely cared for while you chow down. Dale’s Pale Ale goes down easy as well– fyi. Bar, American food, fries, burger, causal, locals, downtown Carmel, attentive, dinner. Thank you and good luck.

I love this place. It’s one of the few places in Carmel that is CHILL. A lot of what I have been to and seen in Carmel are high-end, stuffy, EXPENSIVE restaurants. Brophy’s has an incredibly casual vibe, delicious food, and a BAR. The bartender was super attentive and the new manager was walking around, introducing himself to people, making sure people were having a good time. Not to mention they had a raffle for Giants Spring Training tickets and my name was called! Made the great experience even better. I will absolutely be returning to this place! Tip: Calamari is a must.

This is an easy review for me. Brophy’s has reopened with all its existing charm and neighborhood bar feel, but with BIG improvements to the things that needed improving: décor, food, service, etc. I look forward to many more visits and many more beers!

My first experience at Brophy’s was last night. They just reopened and the atmosphere was rad… they have great seating area, a wall made out of cans looking super sharp… a dark green accent wall with the white trim around the Windows looks so nice. All of there staff is wonderful. Mary and Rob are bartenders and super fun. Lawrence and Riva are managers and represent this place well. I have yet to try their food but I will be calling in a order after work today. They have 6 – 7 beers on tap. LAwrence recommended the mad hatter and I loved it. They have a mug club! another awesome thing is they take pride in supporting and serving local wines so they have the best of the best from the various wine tasting rooms In the area. Looking forward to returning

Please know that the restaurant changed hands recently. A lot of the reviews are from before… We are locals. We were hopeful the change in ownership would be a nice addition to Carmel dining choices. hoping for an upgrade to a warmer atmosphere to compliment the better Inn it is attached to. Atmosphere is very cold and uninviting… with a VERY limited menu. Old Brophy’s had a larger menu with many great choices. Now they primarily have burgers as an offering… but here are numerous great places with a much better atmosphere for burgers. This is Not an environment to cozy up comfortably to enjoy drinks and food. Perhaps if it were more of a lounge atmosphere, it would give tourists and locals a More intimate setting to enjoy a casual meal. We are Locals with high hopes diminished.

Coming back to Carmel, we were really excited to go back to Brofey’s and spend some time hanging out there. We visited in January, 2016 and had a blast. It was a great bar to just hangout with and watched golf and games. We came back in May, 2016 and it has since changed owners. No longer is the carefree fun locals bar that could be enjoyed all day long. The atmosphere is hoyty toty and rude people frequent it. If you want people to randomly join your table at dinner then this place is for you! If you want a mellow low key locals bar, go to Barmel. Disappointment in the new Brofey’s is an understatement. We want the old Brofey’s back.

So the good, the bad, and the ugly. I’m going to start my review by saying that it looks nice in here at first glance. Fresh coat of paint, shiny new tables, and the ketchup holders are pretty neat. That’s about it for me though. I tried to keep an open mind but there are just a few things that immediately made me raise an eyebrow. First off are the new additions to the walls. Neat old pictures adorn the freshly painted walls, but upon further investigation, they are really neat pictures of almost everything… Except Carmel. I was actively trying to find anything that had to do with Carmel and was hard pressed to find anything. Surely the giant wall would hold some sort of local vibe, until you read it… «St. Andrews. The home of golf.» Proudly adorns the center of your attention. Seriously? We live two minutes from arguably the other most famous golf course in the world, but you wouldn’t know it from coming in here. I was asked a few times if I used to come into Brophys before the takeover, and each time I answer«yes» it’s met with a sigh and an «oh» as they walk away. If you are looking for a place to grab a drink and your hotel happens to be across the street, then this place is perfect for you, before or after you go to your actual dinner reservation. For everyone else looking to get a real honest view of what Carmel is like, and who the people are that live here… well let me know when you find it.

My friends and I planned an early Sunday Funday for Marcella’s daughter’s 30th birthday. I had not been in town for about 3 years so we all were so excited for this day even though it was raining. I checked on Unilocal to see what place was open so early and we came across Brothy’s. We sat up at the bar, the 5 of us; they had two ladies tending bar and the place was pretty empty. I wish I could say barmaids greeted us or asked if they could help us. No one else was sitting at the large bar area. I can say maybe they didn’t see 5 hot Latinas walk in and sit down in front of them. After 10 minutes we got some menus and a side eye. These women weren’t going to rain on our parade, with their cold shoulder. We ordered several drinks and apps. We were all together again and that’s all that mattered. Let me warn you, they have a vodka mimosa that is dangerous… good but dangerous. Who doesn’t love vodka and Champiggly? In the end they warmed up enough and took pics of us all.

This place was just a great experience! Erin the bartender took very good care of us. Drinks and selection of spirits were awesome! Looks like this is the Local spot but I wouldn’t be surprised its such a great one!

Brophys was exactly what we needed for lunch. They had lots of sports playing, a good, friendly crowd, and the food was good. Most impressive of all was the waitress. She managed the ENTIRE floor, and somehow kept glasses full, people happy, and floors clean(somebody spilled a beer!). The only thing I would say is don’t bring a small baby, our 21 month old sat in a bar chair and was fine but they don’t have high chairs. No changing table either.

This place will make you druuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunk! This place is amazing; my husband and I love that we stumbled upon this clearly«local» bar. We love the humbleness of the bar and those that work there — everyone is so down to earth; it reminds me of the«local”/small town bars we find when we visit our parents out in the Midwest. Good/cheap prices, stiff drinks. Well worth the stop in!

Have been coming to Brophy’s for many years. Service had always been on point and the food great(for bar food). Tonight my husband and I walked down there wanting to watch the Sharks game, grab a bite and have a few beers. First they had stupid college games(no one interesting or local) and a USA vs Mexico soccer game showing. I asked if we could get the sharks game on, our server said no way and was beyond rude about it. We were there for over an hour, not one person in the place ever looked at the tv’s on the back wall showing the previously mentioned games.(I looked). We split the artichokes and the French dip, it was the worst French dip I’ve ever had, it was stale, cold bread, cold meat, cold cheese, mold. The artichokes didn’t live up to my memory. We had ordered them at least a dozen times and they always tasted juicy, these were dry and on par with the Santa Cruz beach Boardwalk/what you would get at a carnival. I’m thinking they have had a major kitchen change since we were in last. When we asked for the check I pointed out that the sandwich was uneaten and disgusting, served cold and the bread had mold. Our server laughed in my face and said the mold was avocado? Nothing we ordered came with avocado, so this restaurant contaminated our food(what if I was allergic to avocado you smug POS)? or the roll sat around with avocado on it for who knows how long? Average wait time for a beer, 15 – 20 minutes.

Endroit super sympa.

This is a great dive in Carmel. The food is high quality, homemade, and delicious. The burger was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. Only complaint would be that the music was pretty loud for my old soul in a young body. Still, I’d go back because the food was so hearty and delicious!

This was near about hotel. From the outside, it doesn’t look like an eating spot but don’t be fooled. Wings, good and spicy. Clam chowder, good but more like bacon chowder because i ate more bacon than clams. Not complaining though hehe. Good tacos Burger was good and juicy. Worth checking out!

Endroit très bien avec une belle ambiance pour venir prendre une bière entre amis. Un genre de Irish pub sans le décor avec des TV pour le sport.
