Not a review I just have a question are all the donuts vegan? Cuz in the pictures the all seem to say vegan.

This place is my favorite for sweets and the sandwiches they make are delicious as well. The sourdough is my favorite and the apple fritter is to die for!

I ordered the chocolate chip donut filled with chocolate & the apple fritters with chocolate. It was very clear they were both stale. Mustve been yesterdays donuts. Also, neither had a flavor profile beyond semi sweet dough & chocolate. Ive had better donuts at Safeway, for example. Did not fill my donut craving. I must say i was greeted & served with a warm smile though which was nice!

If I could, I would eat and frequent this business 3 – 4 times a week; however, i would soon be 300+ lbs. Very good, as fresh as it gets.

We love this place. We live off of Folsom Blvd and drive here to get donuts when we go out on weekends . The service could be a little more personal but we really can’t complain. Great value and great food well worth the drive.

This place reminds me of Ronald’s donuts in Vegas, because you would never guess they have vegan doughnuts. They only make vegan ones on weekends, but if you call them ahead of time and place a special order for pickup, they might be nice and make you vegan ones mid-week. It’s quite off the beaten path, but they’re the only place in Northern California where you can find vegan Boston cream donuts. And they’re even star shaped!!!

Ohhhh donuts– Tasty little treats from heaven! No matter how healthy or fit you are, there is something totally magical about the joy that comes when you give in and satisfy the«I need a donut» craving. The donut craving holds no prejudices; no matter who you are, I think you know that a donut is one of the tastiest ways to indulge in gluttony and break free of your lame breakfast full of kale smoothies and steel cut oats. I am a healthy woman, dont get me wrong– I totally value the healthy, hearty, wholesome breakfast routines– but lets face it, sometimes we all just need to enjoy the satisfactions in sinking our teeth into a perfectly warm, freshly baked donut! In my opinion, theres no better place than Family Donuts to satisfy your donut craving. It has been around since I can remember. The donuts are unbelievably tasty but what keeps us really going back is that combined with their staff. The staff/owners/employees are all as wonderful as their products. They live up to their buisness name; without a doubt, they sincerely love the customers and treat everyone with so much love just like family would. They have consistently maintained relationships with not only the regulars, but even people who just stop in from time to time as well. They ask about your family, they ask what your job has been like, and they always remember you the next time you come in. The friendliness of this buisness is unprecedented. Even though it has a deli now, it used to be this itty-bitty little donut shop with about 10 tables and one or two donut cases. Back then, there was a group of older men that would gather everyday; we would see them each Wednesday when my mom and I had our weekly donut date. To this day, those men still gather and say hello to everyone that comes in. They kind of started a tradition I think because now there always seems to be groups gathering there, with good reason too! I cant say enough good stuff about the donuts or the family/restaurant. It truly is one of my absolute favorite places to go in northern California!

The place is popular and for good reason. Everything is delish. Personally, I went for the vegan donuts, but my niece and her boyfriend loved the regular donuts. I took home a half dozen(for 2 people? Uh, yea. Call me «Fatty») and ate 2 there. I had the glazed and a custard filled there, and a chocolate bar when I got home. They nailed it. Just freaking nailed it. And since I was there at 9am, the glazed donut was warm. Warm, I tell ya! Just out of the oven. So heavenly. As for service, it’s a family business and they treat their customers right. I was there a little early for the vegan donuts(most are ready at 9am), and the guy who initally told me they weren’t ready yet went around looking for me at 9am. I think I may have had tears in my eyes when I realized the donuts weren’t done yet, so I got sympathy points :) But seriously, who does that — goes looking for the customer that was there too early? Really nice people, that’s who! They also knew that since I was there for vegan donuts, I probably wanted soy milk with my coffee, so they offered and grabbed it from behind the counter. The coffee was good too; not typical donut shop coffee. So, that place is awesome(say«awesome» in a sing-song voice). And I can’t wait to drive an hour down to Sac to get some more donuts. But I guess I better finish the ones I have first.(Won’t take but a few hours at most ;)) To recap: If you want vegan donuts, get there at or after 9am. And only on Fridays and the weekends because no vegan donuts are made Mon-Thurs. They close at 3pm. Signed, Piglet

Lovin the vegetarian donuts! So this place is just a few minutes from my house & the way others have described those donuts, well, I had to try one. Last Saturday after doing my running around I took the kids over for a dozen. They had the trays in with the regular donuts but they weren’t marked as vegetarian. So I asked and she pointed them out. For 1−2pm there was still a pretty good selection of donuts. So we got a couple jelly filled, apple fritters, maple, plain glazed, and coconut shaved. There weren’t any cake donuts or the sprinkled ones or any with weird electric colored icing. We took em home and I lets the kids have one each… maple, coconut, and plain glazed. I ate a jelly filled, and oh man, it was delish! We took the remainder to church on Sunday and everybody raved about them too! So Labor Day Saturday and we ended up there again. They had a couple new types of fritters and for five vegetarian donuts it was $ 7 and last weeks dozen was $ 15.50. Thats a reasonable deal. So both times I was there a nice young man was mopping the floor. We didn’t stop for a potty break. The tables were clean and restaurant felt clean. Besides donuts there are sandwiches, drinks/coffee, potato chips and nibbles. See pics for menu items. Oh, you can get the traditional donuts too besides vegetarian. Noteworthy is the vegetarian is only available on Saturdays & Sundays. they have a large parking lot and two entrance/exits on San Juan and Fair Oaks Blvds. Yummy, we will be back!

I was in town and having a crappy day and remembered hearing recently about vegan doughnuts in the area. Pulled up the trusty Unilocal app and headed over. Once my dude and I walked inside I was like ‘hmmm will there really be vegan doughnuts’ because the joint is very nondescript. I asked and a case full of vegan doughnuts were pointed out to us and our eyes lit up. We picked some to go and two to eat there, plus a cup of coffee(they have soy milk!). After being informed that our chocolate stars could be stuffed with vegan custard or jam we settled on custard and to eat them right there. They were so good I had to get another. The staff was so nice and I must have looked like a sugar lunatic because they brought a chocolate doughnut stuffed with peanut butter to us on the house. We have ate apple fritters, twists and cinnamon rolls over the last few days. All so good, all bringing back so many memories. Sure you can find vegan cake doughnuts easily but yeast doughnuts like these are what vegan make day trips for! The staff(owners?) and doughnuts are all A+++. I cannot wait to go back!

Thankfully Sacramento’s most Elite Vegan Unilocaler, Alice A. clued me into Family Donuts Vegan offerings. Otherwise I wouldn’t have heard about this gem hidden in lil’ ol’ Carmichael, CA. You have to be «in the know» in order to know that this unassuming donuttery has Vegan donuts hidden in the back on Fri, Sat, & Sun. While standing in the long line we overheard the folks in front of us saying they knew about it from Facebook. We would’ve had to ask since there’s no signage to indicate there are Vegan goodies hidden on the premises. While they may be hidden in the back on a baking rack, it keeps them from becoming contaminated by the«regular» donuts. They had pretty much the same selection Veganized as you could find in the display case. We were a tad bit overzealous and ordered a whole dozen to bring some back to the family. The price varies depending on how fancy it is but the total cost was a reasonable $ 18.50. The general consensus was that they taste like regular donuts. Delicious regular old donuts. What better stamp of approval could you ask for? In fact, they could probably replace their regular lineup with these bad boys and no one would be the wiser. I still can’t believe that these types of traditional raised donuts are so difficult to come by. There’s only a few places on the entire West Coast that offer ‘em. It’s odd because I really can’t tell the difference. Heck, even the custard filling tastes the same. It’s uncanny, really. Service was great and the shop nice and clean. From reading other reviews, they will even fill the donuts with your choice of filling if you so desire. At my place of business, often times folks will bring in donuts as a sign of appreciation for a job well done. Normally I get jack shit. Now if we had a Family Donuts in San Francisco, I might leave a few of their business cards around as a hint of where to pick up some amazing donuts that everyone can enjoy.

Located in a strip mall, on the corner of Fair Oaks and San Juan. I drove to Carmichael because yes. they offer VEGANDONUTS! It’s available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and they’ll list the varieties they’re cooking up on their Facebook page. So I went in, perused the case and didn’t see any labeled Vegan so I asked the kid on the other side of the counter and they kept the Vegan Donuts on a rack separate from the other donuts. They had quite a variety available and even offered to fill any with jelly or custard. This kid working was so enthusiastic and it was refreshing for a morning stop. It was my first time going and I only tried a few but they were delicious. So tasty, i don’t think one would know the difference between their vegan and non-vegan. Pretty amazing.

Vegan Boston Crème. Need I say more? This little treasure located right in Carmichael has Vegan Donuts every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9am to 3pm(close)!! Their donuts varieties may change but last weekend they offered: Donut holes, Butterfly, Cinnamon Rolls, Apple fritter, Peanut butter roll, Bear claw, Raisin square, Jelly(raspberry, lemon, blueberry, custard), Glazed, Coconut, Chocolate, and chocolate with custard aka Boston Crème! While I only got a sample a few of their offerings(Glazed, Coconut, Boston, and Chocolate), these donuts were sweet deliciousness! I had arrived during their closing time(darn work) but the guy who worked behind the counter was kind enough to let me buy some of the donuts before they were packed away. Do note that the Unilocal store times are wrong and they close 3PM every day. So do get there early :) Highly recommend the Apple Fritter; it’s HUGE, it’s vegan, and probably the best I’ve had. Thank you!

I finally made it here in person last Saturday! It was better than expected. Family run and very nice. While the dining room was a little dirty, the counter and area where food is prepared was super clean. We came for lunch and donut along with some donuts to go. The sandwiches are $ 6 and was surprised at the freshness and heartiness of my sandwich. It was perfect. The vibe and atmosphere was very heart warming. I saw two old guys having some coffee and donuts shooting the breeze. I saw a father and daughter have some quality time with a donut and milk. Then the cutest thing ever, an elderly couple having some coffee while sharing a muffin. An employee that made a fresh pot of coffee went around to see if anyone needed a refill. It is rare to have a true donut shop like the old days for families to come enjoy a treat and relax. Wish it was closer to home but then maybe not because i just couldn’t help myself to eat more than one donut!

My family and I have been coming here for a year now and for good reason! First of all, their donuts are amazing! And they have a huge and FRESH selection during their business hours! They also have other pastries, as well as fresh bread, and(like their name states) sandwiches. Aside from all the deliciousness they have to offer, they also have the best staff! Their customer service is just awesome. Every time we walk in, we’re greeted with a smile and some people even recognize us :) Its a big deal to me to be able to walk into a place and feel extremely welcome and comfortable and confident that if I send someone to this business, they will have the same experience! Honestly, if you haven’t had a 100% pleasant experience here, YOU’RE doing something wrong! Thank you, Family Donuts and Deli! Can’t wait to see you guys again!
