Mena’s Tex-Mex Grill

First we ordered the queso with beef. I didn’t know cheese could be so flavorless. The beef, also flavorless, didn’t help. We ordered the guave margaritas and they were pretty good until i saw the price. They weren’t THAT good. I ordered the CHIPOTLE BRISKET TACOS and there was nothing spicy (according to the menu) about it. Guess what. They had no flavor either. The gf got regular tacos and theme didn’t change. My sister had the CHEESE ENCHILADAS W CHICKEN. the enchilada barely had any sauce but the chicken was good. Wow, something with flavor. Honestly, ponchos had better food. Don’t waste your money. Oh and lastly the waiter. After our food was delivered we didn’t see him again until the check.

Food is great and staff is very friendly — they get busy on Friday and Saturday nights so get there early.

Pretty good Mexican food. They take large groups and service was good. It’s clean and nicely decorated. I enjoyed the enchiladas and tacos. Very inexpensive, so yay! I recommend this place if you’re wanting cheap and good Tex Mex food!

Me and my boyfriend eat at this restaurant every time he is down here. The fajita meal for two is the bomb and not to mention the happy hour drinks.

Came from Colorado in business. Searched Unilocal and found this joint. It was awesome Tex Mex. it is clean, the foods great and the service staff is very professional. The sopapillas are the bomb

Mena’s. You dissapointed me with your sad enchiladas. I came in with high expectations. How could I not? The pictures and the reviews were all too good.
I ordered the beef fajita enchiladas. Almost immediately, they were at my table. Not made to order, I see. They were staring at me — pleading…begging me not to eat them.
My tummy convinced me otherwise. I should’ve listened to those enchiladas. They knew what was best for me.
The beans and monotone rice did not make up for the cold, tasteless tortillas. Isn’t the sauce supposed to liven the dish up a little bit? What happened?
Did they serve me two day old leftovers? I don’t get it. I’m a good paying customer. I don’t deserve this type of treatment. :(

For starters, we need to set the playing field. The best Tex Mex places in Texas are in San Antonio. The best in Dallas is the Herrera’s on Sylvan across the bridge. With that said, Mena’s is very likely the best in Carrollton. My wife and I had eaten there once many years ago, and it was so dreadful that we never returned. After seeing all the positive reviews, we decided to give it another try.
First the negatives. The add on plastic entrance is really seedy looking and doesn’t help their curb appeal. Our server, good throughout most of the meal, got distracted a bit by the soccer game that was on the bar TV. He still got a twenty percent tip. The music, though fitting with the atmosphere of the place, was a bit too loud, and detracted from the dining experience. As far as the food goes, the rice was a bit too salty and somewhat sub par. Perhaps it was a bad day.
Now the positives. Our server was friendly and mostly attentive. Service was prompt. The booths are very comfortable, and perfect for someone who wants to take their time and kick back a couple of margaritas. Speaking of which, the guava margaritas are excellent. We had the beef enchiladas as well as the sour cream chicken enchiladas. Both were outstanding. Complex in flavor, yet straightforward. Delicious! They were inhaled quickly. The chips and salsa were perfect. The green salsa was very tasty, and the red one was fiery. I was pleasantly surprised. We shared a sopapilla for dessert. You must do this! One person could eat it, but it’s best shared. As we were preparing to leave, the table next to us got their fajitas. They smelled amazing.
All said, Mena’s offers more than great food in a great atmosphere … they are a great value. The prices are very affordable, and families can eat there without breaking the bank. We will definitely be back many times.

Soooo good!!! Will definitely be back… I didnt realize this place is right around the corner from my house I was so impressed with the service and the delivery of the food I will definitely be back and bring plenty of guests

The food is AMAZING! Best sour cream chicken enchiladas I’ve ever had!
The margaritas were mediocre…
The staff was somewhat attentive but our server seemed put out by us the entire time. Then, still 30 minutes before close, we were finishing our drinks and he seemed to start rushing us, which was extremely irritating to me! (Our food was done! We had half a drink left, and still had to pay! That’s it!!!)
I might go back for some take out, but I can make better margaritas at home, and I can most definitely live without that kind of service!

I wish I could give this place 500 stars!
We go at least twice a week and the entire family loves it.
The salsa is spicy and chips are delish.
Very consistent food and service. Except for the one lady waitress. She’s a bit mean and charges extra for pico. All the guys rock though.
The guava margaritas are killer and my new obsession. Two of them = nap time!

Our friends come here at least once a week and after joining them tonight I understand why! Queso was phenomenal. Margaritas were strong and delish. Mole enchiladas… dang, so good. Everyone loved their food. My husband INHALED his meal. Like, I took two bites of mine, looked over, and his food was GONE. Desserts were also delicious. Can’t wait to return for more yummy food! And the service was fantastic, to boot!

Decided to try Mena’s one Sunday for late dinner. We arrived there a little after 8pm and the place is still busy. The aroma of the food being delivered to near by tables smell really good. A quick browse on the menu and decided to have chips and Queso to start and Chipotle Beef Fajitas. Their chips and salsa are really great and to add the Queso it was awesome. However, my beef fajitas is a little chewy and not very tender but the flavor is really great. Every time I take a bite of it the whole strip of meat will just come and it was hard to cut with a bit without putting a little force.
3 stars for now because of the texture of the meat but im sure it’ll be better when I come back to try it again, hopefully.

Decided to go back tonight for a quick fix on Mexican food. Our last visit back in August was really great. Tonight was a little different. Still a good visit but not the amazing visit we had before.
The server made a couple mistakes with our order and the kitchen had a few issues.
I told the server I wanted the 3 taco ala cart item with out dinner as my wife and I were going to share the order of 3 tacos. He reminded me it was 3 tacos in the order and I acknowledged that. Some how I have no idea where he decided this was a TO GO order of 3 tacos. So when our food arrived they were not there. I gave him a few minutes thinking they were just delayed. Next thing I know he shows up with them in a bag packaged as a TO GO. SMH at no time did we ever remotely discuss TO GO or anything sounding similar.
I ordered the Carna Asada steak dinner and asked for medium to medium rare for the meat. This type of steak is best eaten in my opinion at this temp. When you cook it above med or well done the muscle tightens up and it become tough and chewy. Well this was a well done piece of steak. It still had flavor and was semi edible but not the amazing, tender and delicious med to medium rare it should have been.
The server did well keeping the beverages filled and clearly the plates. My wifes meal was good she had the Jamie’s special.
The floor under the table was not cleaned very well. There was slippery stuff on the tile and my shoes kept sliding around. When they brought our appetizer there was pieces of other food on the sides like a piece of rice and a veg.
All in all just an ok visit.

Ambiance is great but the food to me is bland. Don’t even like the nachos that much. We ordered quesadillas and it was just decent — not a big fan of how they chicken.

Sad to say but the margaritas were absolutely awful
The skinny margarita was anything but. They used the regular sour mix and tried to pass it off as skinny
So we switched to the $ 4 house margs and you get what you pay for.
The chips and salsas were good
The tamales were cold
The fajitas were weird and not hot or sizzling
The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of one was the service was great and I liked the tortillas and refried beans.

They were pretty busy when we went on a Sunday, but I loved the food and cheap drinks! They had a few veggie options, including veggie and spinach enchiladas. The chips and salsa were good, and the service was pretty fast despite the crowd. They were able to modify the enchiladas without cheese and queso, and everything came out perfectly. The only thing that weirded me out a bit was the fact that there were green beans in the enchiladas… a little strange but they were still good! Included squash, zuchinni and carrots too. Next time I’ll try the spinach. We’ll be back for sure.

I loved my Fajitas Nachos!!! So good! The tortilla chip was nicely baked w beans and cheese… The meat (I got half order of chicken & steak) was tender and soft… I was really impressed! I loved their guacamole… Just wish they gave a little more… Lol :)
My friends ordered a bunch of stuff and everything looked amazing with huge portions for a decent price…
Oh and their chips and salsa was soooo good!!! I never eat/​like chips and salsa but I couldn’t stop eating it at Mena’s.
Oh and don’t forget to get their Corona Rita! So good!

After my coworkers raving about this place I was really let down…
We sat on the patio and were seated immediately. Very nice patio!
Salsa and chips were good. The green sauce wasn’t my type but I’m more into creamy– tomato tomatoe!
I ordered the chili relleno with beef– for lunch hour it took almost 30 min to get out meal. And it wasn’t packed either. Kinda annoyed by that. My chili relleno was stuffed with good seasoned ground beef but the fried batter was thicker than what you’d find on a corn dog. Honestly it was entirely too much batter. I prefer a light batter so you truly get the light crispy fried taste. This was mushy and drowning in their sauce.
So then comes closing out the tab, our waitress walked past our table multiple times even when we had our cards on the table clearly ready to go. My coworker had to find someone inside to actually get out tabs.
I’m sure I’ll come back but just try something else and get my check ASAP… Coworkers had good food so there’s still hope!

Local Tex mex gem to carrollton menas doesn’t fail to deliver. I’ve been here twice now and they are quite busy on Friday nights. Come early if you don’t like to wait in tight spaces with others. Ordered the margaritas both times and they are good. Fajita beef nachos both times and they have been consistent. The chips and two (green and red) salsas that come complimentary are equally as tasty. My friend got a shrimp dish and said it was right on. Bar is in the middle of place and small. There are some tvs if you care to see and not hear. I would recommend them for happy hours, groups, hanging solo dinner at bar. It’s not been warm enough for me to try the patio however it looks pretty awesome for a spring-​fall time!
