Came here with my family because my first experience was okay. I thought I’d give it a second chance today. Such slow service. Didn’t come out with any fresh food. Employees were rude and their food was, again, not fresh. Not coming back here after today. If you’re looking for good quality food and fast service, this is not the place.

Would say don’t go here if not busy. Place was empty when I went in 2 weeks ago. Food was plain and witnessed the host adding water to any steam trey that had a sauce probably because food sat too long and thickened up to much. As far as cleanliness. I went to use the sriracha and the outside was so sticky that when I used a napkin, the napkin stuck to it. Sad thing is when I was leaving more people started to show up so they probably got fresh good food.

I like this place. Husband and Wife owned, they take pride in their business. The prices are phenomenal for buffet and the food is above what quality you would expect for the $. You must try the walnut shrimp. I literally crave for that on some nights lol

I was with a couple of friends the other day mid week and one suggested this Chinese buffet for lunch. Well, I already have a fave Chinese restaurant here in Carson City, but what the heck, easier to just go along rather than have a long discussion on what’s better. Heck, the price sure is right, just $ 6.99 per person for lunch! China Chef is located in the Eastern part of Carson City at Highway 50 and Airport Rd. in a little strip mall. The three of us go in and we are greeted my a friendly guy, who seats us at a table towards the rear. The edges of the restaurant are lined with booths, but with more than 2 people and getting up and down from the table at a buffet, a table works better. Just waters to drink please. So we go right up to the food. My friends start loading up. I gotta take my Unilocal pics first! This isn’t one of the larger buffets Chinese or not around. But the quality is what matters, so let’s see what we have here. Along the wall are the desserts of colored jellos and some salads. Also there is a small selection of sushi rolls under Saran wrap. I skipped that. The main area of food is on the center island steam table. Here we have most of the standard American Chinese dishes most people like, such as sweet and sour chicken, Generals Chicken, Mongolian Beef, egg rolls, fried rice, chow mein and hot and sour soup. Three soups are offered, won ton, egg flower and the hot and sour. I did notice some non American Chinese dishes, like the steamed fish with black pepper and the black pepper chicken. There were also some steamed mussels as well and a few veggie dishes including the Chinese green beans with garlic. For the price, it’s not a bad selection. One interesting thing I noticed is the won tons for the soup are served in a steamer tray instead of left floating around in the broth. That way the dumplings don’t get all soggy and fall apart, that’s a smart move. Especially for me, since I love the dumplings, but don’t care about the soup. I dished a good helping of the delicate won tons into a bowl and then went to the broccoli beef tray and scooped up some of the oyster sauce and put that over my won tons. Yummers, I really like them like that! The steamed fish was decent, maybe not as melty in my mouth as some, but decent for what it is at a buffet. The egg rolls were a bit dry, Fried rice was fine, sweet and sour chicken was OK. Those skewered chicken meat on a stick were offered as well, but I didn’t try them. The pot stickers were actually decent and cook correctly and were provided with a good dipping sauce. We all got our fill. For the price, I’d come back on occasion. The food was decent, maybe not the best ever, but easy in and out and a cheap price, what the hell? The service was functional, they cleared the plates and filled the water when needed. One thing, most of the food is not labeled, so you have to sort of just know by looking what the dish is. There are a few signs up, in both English and Spanish, just in case. Oh, yeah, sorry, no Chinese fried chicken wings here. Take out from the buffet is offer also if that’s what you like. You get a stryo clamshell box and just fill it up for $ 6.99. This is a better system than selling the buffet by the weight … cause that weight really adds up like at Whole Foods!

Nice enough. Sad to see a completely empty restaurant for a weekend lunch. Note that on Sundays, they only offer and charge the more expensive dinner menu. They say they offer free wifi, but you need a password and since the staff was basically invisible, I didn’t really bother tracking anyone down to find out what it was. As for food, because of lack of patrons, the steam dishes were kept only half full so as not to waste food. The dishes itself were okay. I liked the honey walnut shrimp and the fried salt and pepper shrimp. Also off-putting were the constant warnings posted everywhere to not waste food or you’ll get sick if you eat undercooked foods.

Have been there twice when I go on vacation with my family, food is good and they have good service! Nice people there. Definitely a good choice for a Chinese buffet in town.

This place is your typical Chinese buffet which offers a wide selection of food from fish, clams, pork and chicken. The food is decent and the atmosphere is relaxing. Not bad of a place to get your Chinese food fix

I used to go here a lot, it’s much better than the king buffet. They don’t have a large selection of food, but all the food is good. They have this honey walnut shrimp that is delicious! They always have crab available and it’s always juicy and delicious. I’ve never been disappointed with their food. The staff is always nice and friendly, and the place is never uncomfortably crowded which I like. The only problem I have with this place is the tables. They always have sticky tables! I see them washing the tables, so is not a matter of neglect. The tables just seem very cheap and old. If it wasn’t for the tables I would give this place 5 stars.

I ‘serendipitously’ stumbled upon China Chef after escorting a friend of mine visiting from New Jersey to Reno for a flight back by virtue of their listing on a highway exit sign. Failing to resist the allure of trying out an heretofore undiscovered Chinese buffet, I used my friend GPS to bring me to them and gave China Chef a try. Food selections were nothing grandiose but they were plenty enough to warrant a decent selection. I had some of the best coconut shrimp I had anywhere, outstanding. No salmon but swai fish fillets were to be had which were tasty enough. Everything I had was fresh and is basic for expected available offerings at such a place. Not a bad thing but if you are looking for a place with more ‘exotic’ options, go elsewhere. No soft serve ice cream available but there was some of the traditional variety which was adequate. Service was courteous and prompt, and the price was right ‘@” $ 9.99 before a beverage.

We’ve eaten there a few times over the last four years. The food is good. Not the best I’ve every had nor the worst, but it’s good. Most of what I’ve tried is flavorful. It’s a nice change of pace, the lights aren’t over powering, the volume on the stereo is comfortable. It’s nice to go some place and be able to hold a conversation without having to yell over the music. They work hard to keep the food full and fresh. Their Sweet n Sour Soup is nice. The price is good. My only real complaint is the cups and tables always feel kind of sticky. I know they clean, I think it’s the cleaner they use.

We’ve eaten here a couple of times and have been very pleased with both the food and the service. We have 2 kids and the cost per kid is very reasonable. There was high turnover in the food and dishes were brought out all the time so we knew we were eating freshly cooked items. They kept our drinks filled and our empty plates cleared. We will be back!

Terrible quality. It has really gone down hill! We went there for the first time in years and we were very disappointed. It used to be so good!

Very focused on keeping food fresh and hot. Great customer service. Food matches similar quality to other Chinese buffets. Wish they offered different sushi and not just same roll with different toppings. Wish for the price drinks were included. Good place to satisfy the Chinese food cravings.

This place is sooo good, and it’s really hard to find such a good chinese restaurant in Carson City. Their Egg tart is so amazing. Please do not miss their egg tart if you visit their place! Price is also low and worth, people is nice and friendly, I really love that place, and it gave me a good memory at the first time when I visit Tahoe Lake and stay at Carson City~

They had decent/fresh food. Lower price. The Chinese food was ok, no cung pao chicken or cashew chicken. my favorites, but they made a tasty crab Rangoon. Decent food, but I wouldn’t drive to Carson city just to eat there.

Oh, my god. I had forgotten all about this place. My dad and I eat here every now and then, and it has gotten so bad that every time we eat here we swear we will never go back. Then, we forget we had said that until our next meal there! Ahh, stay away from China Chef. Spend your money across the street at El Agulia Real(in the CVS Pharmacy and Dairy Queen shopping center). Yes, I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

Ok. so this place is close to my house so I go here quite often. The food is standard chinese buffet food… nothing to write home about but there’s something about it that has made it my comfort food, They have lots of seafood which I love and I often have cravings for their cashew shrimp. I wouldn’t really suggest it for awesome stand out chinese food, but it does have a special place in mah belly.
