Compared to Oakland, I’m used to having plenty of Asian grocery stores around, anything from the big supermarket sized 99 Ranch chain to the little mom and pop neighborhood stores. Kabayan Mulii-Mart is just one of those, a little local Asian market located in a very un-Asian Carson City, NV. Located on a busy street to the freeway across from Lowe’s, it’s easy to pass on by without noticing it. The parking is limited right in front to the store. Looking over the products and interacting with the people and customers in the store, it seem primarily a Filipino store. But they do carry products from all other parts of Asia as well. I think the owner makes a trip once a week down to the Bay Area to restock the breads and other fresh produce that you’ll never see at Save Mart. My BF told me, the owner will even pick up a roast duck or 2 from the Bay Area if requested… that guy’s alright! I was in here this time recently on one of my visits for some bean thread noodles(fun see) and coconut milk. I did find my noodles among all the other selections of noodles. There’s a lot of noodles here! I also saw some of those shrimp chip bagged snacks I like. The prices are not gonna be rock bottom 99 Ranch supermarket prices, but being this is just a little store and really, the only Asian food store in all of Carson City … it’s not bad. If you can’t find something, just ask, they’re very friendly here. Credit cards accepted as well, but no Amex.

I love this place. They only thing I suggest is that they change their name to kabayan Asian market. Most Americans don’t know what kabayan means. It will get them more business if people knew it is an Asian market.

This is the only Asian store in town but i guess mostly provide some stuff from Philippines. I am not giving this place for 4 stars because i rarely to find some Asian stuff here especially stuff from Japan, Korea they don’t have it here. So only stop by for special item such as jasmine rice, fish and sweet soy sauce. Overall the owner is nice, a quiet guy and the price is average

Three stars for just being a decent Asian(catering more towards Filipino food) market. One star for being in Carson City! I’ve passed by this tiny little supermarket more times than I’ve cared to admit, yet never realized it was a Filipino supermarket. I finally stopped in on a weekday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by what I could find inside — Filipino staples like longinesa(sausages), sia pao(steamed buns), lumpia(egg rolls) pan de sal(bread rolls), etc. Do note that most of the foods are frozen, obviously brought up from the Bay area, but I’m willing to sacrifice freshness for the fact that I don’t have to drive 2 hours to Sacramento to get this stuff.

My husband and I love going into this store. Every time we stop by, they are always nice and helpful if we are looking for something in particular. Of course they are not as big as the ones in Reno, but they are great for last minute items, or yummy ramen! One time, my friend and I stopped in there shortly before they were going to close, but didn’t even realize it! We were in there for about 10 minutes after they closed, but they did not even care! They were there with smiles on their faces, glad to have business. When we looked at the closing time, we felt bad, but they didn’t even seem to mind. Thank you Kabayan for providing great customer service, and being the only Asian Market in Carson City!
