Mj’s Sports Bar

Dinging a bar because it allows smoking seems unfair, as most of Nevada’s bars that don’t serve food allow it. If you aren’t comfortable around smoke, then yeah, this might not be your cup of tea — nor will any non-​food-​serving Nevada bar. If you don’t like Vietnamese food, don’t go to a Vietnamese restaurant. If you don’t like smoking, don’t go to a bar that allows it. I should add that this bar has smoke-​removal machines, which many bars lack.
This place’s greatest strengths are the quality of both its bartenders and the regulars. It’s tucked away in a shopping center that recently added a sandwich-​shop chain and is about to add a national wings-​and-​sports-​bar chain, the latter of which will appeal to anyone who wants something less dive-​y and more whitewashed and sanitized. MJ’s bills itself as a sports bar, but it’s really more of a neighborhood bar that happens to have several TVs that show sports.
MJ’s has darts and pool tables for entertainment in addition to the televisions. It hosted a patron’s birthday party last week, adding to the family atmosphere. I’ve been here a couple of dozen nights and haven’t seen a single disagreement, which is unusual for a bar. People here get along, probably owing to the fact that so many people come often and support the bartender on duty (and vice versa).
If you’re looking to grab food on the way home from the bar, Jack in the Box is open late. I’m not much of a fan, but most people are. So even though there’s no food, there’s something quick nearby.
This isn’t an all-​night bar. If you’re planning to park yourself somewhere until 7 a.m., you’re best off going to a casino. If you’re looking to relax in a reasonably dark environment for a couple of hours and talk with nice and interesting people, this will suit your needs very well.

Has two fairly decent pool tables and a great bartender. Seems to be a popular place in the bar scene. Giving it only two stars, because it’s so smokey.
