My friend and I went to lunch at Mystique yesterday. The food was terrible. Neither of us could or would eat the food brought to us. The service people could not have cared less. We left our $ 50.00, and we decided that was the end of that…

The food, service and atmosphere were very good. The quantity of food for the cost was lacking. I would probably eat there again.

Went there for the first time last night. I love this building. I loved it when it was Bsghetti’s and when it was Sassafrass. They layout is cool. I think there could be some more work done on the interior décor and definitely the exterior, but it’s nice enough. No complaints on the flavors or preparation of the food, but the portions are small and the prices are high. Our server was awesome. The bread and water refiller guy was on it all night. I still might use this as a place to bring clients since it is so close to my office, but I really believe there is better bang for your buck elsewhere.

Grand opening! The calamari and pork belly starters were so good! Ate my scallops and our dessert of red velvet waffle and lemon crème brûlée before I remembered to take pictures. Sooooo good. Coming back for Valentine’s Day dinner!

I just don’t know where to start with this review… One of my favorite chefs left Reno and went to this spot in Carson City. Now it’s not earth shattering, it’s a 30 minute drive. But when he used to be 5 minutes down the street from my house life was perfect. Tonight the hubby, three Unilocal friends and I ventured the crappy weather to once again dine on Chef Stern’s orgasmic offerings. An open quiet space with simple décor that gives you a fine dinning feel. The bar area is in the back and separate from the dinning room. Danielle was our server for the evening, and did a great job. Lord knows we kept her moving right to the end when she even offered to separate the checks– wow. That’s tops in our book, so many places refuse to or give you an eye roll at the request, not Danielle, she offered before we could ask. For the dinner– fabulous wine prices. I have to say we were shocked at how little the mark up was. We started with the roasted Brussels sprouts with carmelized onions and bacon. $ 8 appetizer was plenty for 5. Chef sent out seafood corn dogs– light crispy coating on a seafood mixture formed into a croquet, and the sauce– I think we were trying to lick the bowl clean. The $ 7 grilled Caesar salad and $ 7 grilled pear salads were huge. To me they would have made the perfect lunch by themselves. I went with the stuffed pork chop(I seldom order park chops in a restaurant). This three inch baby was stuffed with a goat cheese mixture and was hugged by a couple of strips of jalapeño bacon and nestled on a bed of quinoa with figs($ 27). Yes I almost licked the plate clean. Mmmm. The hubby devoured his perfectly cooked Manhattan steak on a bed of couscous($ 31). Then announced he has changed his mind about his upcoming birthday dinner location. The salmon filets looked like a great portion and also nicely prepared. Everyone was extremely happy with their meal and was discussing how often we will be returning. But we can’t stop here… the chef had mentioned a new cocktail concoction that they had created earlier in the week. So yes let’s try it– rumchatta and Godiva dark chocolate liquor. Lovely. But I had asked when making reservations if it would be possible to have chocolate Crème brûlée. Score!!! Chef Stern had made 7 creamy chocolatey dishes of my favorite dessert. I can brag that no one has ever topped his creamy smoothness or the perfect amount of chocolatey goodness. So we had 4 of those, a lemon Crème brûlée and a wicked red velvet cake waffle. I know, for some reason we must have thought we were never going to eat his food again and had to try it all. Silly us, it’s just 30 miles. But I did bring one extra brûlée home for breakfast. :). Desserts were $ 7 I always find it to be a treat when the chef personally comes out to check on you and chef Stern did not disappoint. I have always enjoyed his descriptions of a plate or why he does what he does. Also the owner Yvette came to the table and checked on us. What a great new place she has going. Now if I could just get a table in the kitchen to watch the staff work while I enjoyed their meal, it would be a bonus. Carson City, you are so lucky!!! Reno, it’s worth the drive.

For the sake of this review… I’ve decided that the five stars in my review will be represented instead, each by a Hollywood star. There will be a food star, an atmosphere star, a price star, a service star, and an overall star. The food star representative is Tom Hanks. –Tom Hanks is a good solid choice for many roles. He has some depth, lots of warmth and is great at your traditional Hollywood roles. This actor is perfect for representing the food here at Mystique. Award winning levels of skill and preparation make the food here some of the best I’ve had. I started with the Grilled Caesar. This was a unique salad. Heavy on flavors but still light on the palate. It came with what I expected was a cocktail sauce on the side but it wasn’t, instead it was a sweet tomato compote. To follow, I ordered the stuffed Pork Chop wrapped in bacon. They asked me how I would like that cooked. And I said…“At the chef’s discretion.” It came out medium rare and was delicious. The only thing I didn’t eat, on that plate was the fork, knife and the bacon. The whole table was«in» on the chocolate crème brûlée. But I just can’t do that. I can’t have an expensive higher end meal and only try one dessert. So instead I ordered up the lemon crème brûlée dessert and added the red velvet waffle for the whole table to sample. I was able to try all three and still take some home for my daughter. Win win. I will have to say… that if you can find a way to get here when the chocolate brûlée is on the menu… do it. You wont be disappointed. Dessert here should not be missed. Save room. The atmosphere star representative is Sandra Bullock. –Sandra Bullock did win an Oscar. But she also was in Love Potion #9. So, like Sandra, the décor and atmosphere had some shining points and some points that just didn’t work for me. I loved the table and all of implements of foodie execution that were on display. The white linen and the lighting were great. But looking up… I lost a little of that feeling of «date night». I’m not sure what it was. The huge windows up front and the rain coming down outside made for a great mental picture to save for remembering. But the feeling of being in a small town mall just never really went away. Maybe it’s the empty spaces and the half filled stores looming just within of the reach of the light that didn’t sit right with me. Either way, when the building is bustling and the wait is long. I’m guessing Sandra Bullock may make way for a Meryl Streep comparison. The price star representative would be Samuel L Jackson. –Samuel L Jackson is a great star, but did you know that he is the Highest Box Office grossing actor of all time? He might have a bit of a higher price tag… but the bang for your buck that you get for Samuel L. Jackson is almost without compare… by the tune of BILLIONS. No, you wont get a billion dollar wine here for cheap. But you will get some really good wines here at an affordable price point. So affordable that I, the man who almost never buys a bottle, bought a bottle. I can’t speak for the«wine list» because I don’t know wine enough. But I know the bottles that I did recognize weren’t shabby low end list fillers. The food price points were just under what I would expect. Maybe this is the right price point for Carson at this level. But it is so refreshing to know I can go out to a very nice meal and not have to skip 3 other meals just to pay for it. Salads are fairly priced. The management, while not offering an included salad, gives a great selection of salads that can be added to your meal without feeling you are being«upcharged» to death. The service star representative would be Jennifer Lawrence. –Jennifer Lawrence is a young actress with an award or two under her belt. She plays the«real» rolls with a solid panache and has great comedic timing. And our service was solid and fun and, as Donna S. mentioned in her review, above and beyond with the offer of splitting the check. It wasn’t white glove, over the top, scrape the bread crumbs every 5 seconds service. But it was a finer dining experience with friendly staff doing a great job. The overall star representative would be Johnny Depp. –Johnny Depp is an exiting star to watch. He has that«mystique» that you are looking for in a star. His performances are well researched and he commits to the execution of each roll 100%. Can’t think of a better representative for my overall meal experience.

My wife had the Squash A La Frutti di Mare and I had the Thai pork ribs. If they had small portions at one point, they certainly don’t now! Both dishes were exceptional and we couldn’t finish it all. I believe I told the server that the ribs were ‘sublime’. Such a perfect match of spice and sweet and pork with a little fat. The salmon and the mussels and clams were very good and all mixed very well; an unusually good seafood taste, for lack of a better explanation. Service was perfect and everyone was very attentive. The ambiance was above average, the only suggestion I would give is to hang something from the ceiling to break up some of the reflective sound. We arrived before the dinner rush and all sounds reflect through the room. Have to try the scallops next time!

Overall very pleased with my experience here. Service was very attentive without being intrusive. Wine prices are very reasonable. We had the pork belly appetizer and it was amazing. Table bread was a bit lacking, had a server walking around putting a single slice of bread on a plate for you versus putting a bread basket on the table. That I found a bit strange but minor in the grand scheme of things. Main course meals were very good, wife had the fillet which was fantastic and I had the stuffed porkchop which was very good as well. Overall was very good and would go again.

Some colleagues and I were in town for business and wanted to try this new restaurant. The dining area is designed eloquently and I love the purple theme. The unique art placed around the dining area adds a certain eloquence. When we arrived there were only a few other customers. We were seated promptly and the staff were very kind. Since there were only a few customers and the dining area is very open, it felt as though our voices would echo. It was a little awkward because we were in a big group and it felt very loud. I felt as though we had to catch ourselves and make sure our voices were lower. I believe that if their were more customers it would probably either drown it out a bit or it would just be really loud in there. Honestly, that is the only reason the stars are at a 4, because my meal was awesome! For lunch I ordered the Artisan Green Salad with chicken. It was a huge serving and tasted amazing. Our group shared an order of the Mystique Fries and I have not enough words to explain how tasty those were. Not only were they visually pleasing(a gorgeous purple color), they were well made. Overall, I definitely want to go again to try some of the other menu items.

I’m updating this review for now and will update it again in a few days when we return, but after my review I was contacted personally by the staff. This gives me hope. They stated that they have changed, and added sides, and lowered their prices. Based on that I’ve upgraded my rating and will update when we go back. I’m looking forward to eating there again as the food was excellent and the service was impeccable. This gives me hope. More to come.

Did someone say Crème Brulee?! The Chef out did himself, Christmas Eve menu was amazing with impeccable service and finished with these delightful desserts — chocolate peppermint and sweet potato with marshmallows crème brûlée’s.

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant finally open when our other dinner plans fell through. This location has been empty the last couple of years, and we’re glad someone finally opened shop. We had soup and salad, and she had the lamb chops and I tried the rib eye. The corn chowder was very tasty, the bleu cheese polenta was good, and while the meats had amazing flavor, it looked like the chef had been in a hurry, both were blackened on the outside and a little too rare on the inside. The prices could due with a re-examination, as they’re a little high to be competitive with other establishments in the area offering equally or more phenomenal food for less. Pros: Wait staff was good, the food all had good flavor, and there were some interesting items on the menu. Cons: Wasteful abundance of dishes, even for fine dining. We’re in a desert and a drought. The prices are a little excessive, the art work and heart motif needs to be reconsidered as it’s distracting and unpleasant for the atmosphere. Conclusion: We’ll be coming back in a few months to see how they’re doing, and maybe give them a different review, but right now I would say you should investigate for yourself if you’re curious, but I would recommend several other places before this one.

My girlfriend and I went to Mystique restaurant, I believe the same day as the other family that reviewed Mystique and we had a wonderful meal. The staff was attentive and courteous to our needs. I had the dry rub ribeye and she had the salmon. Both were excellent. My ribeye had no excessive fat on it and was done to my medium rare liking. We also had the scallops for an appetizer which was fabulous. Over all the experience was great! I am not sure about the previous review but fine dining usually means cloth napkins and more silverware. As far as the quantity of food he was talking about, this is not a buffet, It’s fine dining. We were more then satisfied with the quantity of our meal. I would recommend Mystique to anyone wishing to have an exquisite meal. Maybe the other review should stick to Chili’s.

I went here with six friends tonight and we had a great time. The atmosphere is classy and cozy. The table arrangement was such that I felt I could have a conversation with each person at our table. The staff was friendly and attentive and our food came out in a timely manner despite there being a large party in the restaurant. My husband and I shared the avocado hummus as an appetizer and the bread pudding waffle for dessert. He had the porterhouse and I had the salmon. All of the food was excellent and we are stuffed! Our friends raved about all of their food as well. The owner brought out the homemade cookies of the day(rosemary) which were also delicious and unique. This is a great new place for a celebration, date night, or a night out with friends. Now we don’t have to drive all the way to Tahoe or Reno for a nice night out!

I had dinner here last night with a group of 5. We all had something different, and everyone was very happy with their meals and their experience. Speaking for myself, I had the ribeye, and it was amazing. At about 12 oz it was more than I could comfortably finish since I had the seared scallops as an appetizer, which, by the way, are the best scallops I have ever had, anywhere. The recommended wine paired well with all our meals, again all different. The ambiance of the dining room is also beautifully done, with soothing colors, and artwork by local artists. The staff was attentive, without being obtrusive, and, handled special requests flawlessly(one of the group is a vegetarian). I will admit, the previous review gave me pause about trying Mystique, but I’m very glad we did. My/our experience couldn’t have been more different than that reviewer’s. I will definitely go back, and this will be my number one destination when I have friends and family visiting from out of town. I highly recommend you experience Mystique for yourself. I’m glad I did.
