Back In The Day Cafe

It’s 11:00 am on Saturday looking for some breakfast excited by they are not open. Very disappointed!

Great wait staff. Greasy Ruben with shredded corned beef and what seemed liked grilled sauerkraut. That was a week ago, so maybe things have improved.

Thought the theme of their menu was interesting and fun so we went out of our way to go there. Checked their hours and picked out what we want to order on their website. When we arrived we noted that the restaurant looked dark and empty. As we approached the front door we were greeted with a handwritten sign saying «CLOSED FOR CATERING EVENT.» This was not only a disappointment, it was a demonstration of disrespect for their customers. If you can’t run both businesses, don’t be in both businesses.

I hope it was a bad day for them as I like the concept.

Very disappointing. We’ve eaten there in the past and it was very good. I guess it explains why the restaurant was pretty empty on a Saturday night. We spent way too much money for very mediocre food. My burger was very dry. Went to Cleveland ale house and had a much better burger for a much cheaper price. Not sure what’s happened here. Won’t be coming back.

We love this place! My 5 and 2yr old do to as well. Staff is great and never a long time for good food to arrive. The owners always come speak to us (my girls, first;).

Went in on a Saturday for lunch — craving a Reuben & fries… They delivered well.
The Reuben was juicy indulgence, and the fries were crispy.
I accompanied this with a draft beer — Bruefest Scarlet Amber Ale, which smelled fresh and left a nice lacing on the glass.
My server was friendly and efficient (I’m pretty low-​maintainance anyway).
Atmosphere was nice, especially the music. A nice mix of 80’s eclectic softish rock (ELO, Wings, Yes, etc.). And not annoyingly loud (like at Starbucks).
I would ding them ½ star for price, though. Maybe I’m just cheap, but $ 11 seems a tad steep for a Reuben w/​fries. Add $ 6 for a craft beer on tap, then tip, and Andrew Jackson can’t cover lunch without asking Lincoln for help.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Been in for lunch and another time for drinks. The staff was very friendly but seemed inexpierienced. Very kid friendly which is a plus. Will definitely keep in mind for family night!

Ate here again tonight… as usual the food was amazing as well as the service!!! The soup of the day was a chicken lemon vegetable. and it was amazing… yea I know soup and 90 degrees out… it was well worth it. That and the pulled pork sandwich which was amazing too!!!
Come try this place out you won’t be sorry!!!

Great spot to come to for good portion sized meals and great service. The Cobb salad was fresh and the dressing was mild. We hosted a 50^th birthday party here with over 50 guests and it was well organized. Servers were very friendly and attentive. The karaōke was so much fun. There are also board games and comfy couches in the back so a great place to hang out with a group of friends. My guests were really impressed with the restaurant and all it has to offer. Lots of vegetarian options too. Drink specials daily.

Bar atmosphere where they will let just about anyone up to the mic during Karaōke. YIKES. Food took forever to come, but was actually better than average … at least my burger was.

Like all the romantic old material on the walls… made me reminisce of the days back in the day.

1. If you’re going for drinks this place might be ok.
2. The food is horrible. I mean there’s nothing unique about it, they definitely aren’t generous in their portion sizes, and they charge you for everything possible. For example, we wanted nachos. The base nachos were 7.49, which had just chips and movie theater cheese. Anything else you wanted to add on was .49 or more. We thought ok the plate will be huge. Nope just a normal dinner size plate.
3. The music was super creepy.
4. The salad had tons of wilted lettuce and the apples had seeds still in them, despite paying over $ 10 for 4 slices of Apple, 4 slices of cucumber, and wilted lettuce.
5. The service was good. I will hand that to them.
6. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, despite having cool games and I wouldn’t go back ever.

Do not order the burger– absolutely disgusting. The service was ok, it took a long time for our food to come out — 3 burgers and a chicken salad wrap. Very disappointing. Will not be returning.

Very good food. Has the blackened fish with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was fresh and real mashed potatoes. Fish was seasoned will and very good. Green beans cooked nicely and fresh. Nice quiet atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back and try something else. My son had the steak and he said it was good.

Great little spot. Saturday afternoon there were some games on but not very loud. So we could talk.
Fantastic burgers. Fresh flavorful pepper jack cheese. Thick fresh ground meat.
Onion straws were excellent.
And then to top it off a free desert. Very good Murphy Brownie.
Young man taking care of us was very friendly and attentive.
This place is on my return list.

I went by here Sat with the family. The management must be reading the reviews because there was a serious upgrade in service. It looks like they hired about 5 – 6 more servers and they were great. I don’t think we ever had to ask for anything and if we did they brought it immediately. I decided to try something new and went with the Shrimp Po-​Boy. I usually only get these on the coast but I was in the mood for one. I tried it with the shrimp blackened. When the sandwich first came I was a little disappointing to see what looked like only 6 shrimp on the sandwich. Then after one bite I was pleasantly surprised. There were 6 more hiding under the toppings. The sandwich was awesome. Probably one of the best Po-​Boys I’ve had. The seasoning had a great kick and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. My wife liked her BLT and we got some great Chili Cheese Fries as an appetizer. We’ll definitely be back. It looks like this restaurant is trying to kick it up a notch. I’m a little taken back with all the bad reviews about their food. I’ve only had great meals here. Possibly maybe it’s just what I’m ordering. Here’s what I’ve gotten so far.
The Beast, now called something else, it’s their take on a Philly Cheesesteak.
Miss Piggy Nachos — Awesome nachos with pulled pork and bbq sauce drizzled on top.
Bronto Burger– Not a bad burger but not the best in the world either.
Forrest Gump — Shrimp and grits, not bad but my wife liked it a lot more than I did.
Cheeseburger Nachos — Never again, I’ll stick to the Miss Piggy ones.
Shrimp Po-​Boy — One of the best I’ve had.
Fish and Chips — Honestly not very good. I expected the fish to be a little bigger.

Organized a meetup here. The owners also signed up and said they couldn’t wait to meet our dining out meetup group. Neither of the owners showed up to say hello or sit with us (why take up space on the meetup places when it was limited to 8 people?)
The service was MEH and slow slow slow. Not customer friendly. We felt like we were bothering people by coming. Always a red flag is that there were only 2 other customers when we were there.
The food nondescrip and overpriced for the kind of restaurant it is (sandwich shop). Very disappointing and an overall waste of time. The wings were rubbery. The lettuce on sandwiches was wilted and old. Burger was dry and flavorless. «Forest Gump» was forgetable, Mac and cheese was perhaps boxed– it was bland. How can you mess up on mac and cheese and burgers.
We doubt this place will be in business long.

Maybe we set our expectations to high?! We heard so many great things and finally went and didn’t think it was that special. The staff was super nice and quick. The wine was half off so that was good. We heard the burgers were great so we tried it but it was nothing special and cooked more than we requested. The wings weren’t crispy like we asked. I did enjoy the sweet potato fries! The pickle chips were good. I am guessing maybe lunch is there speciality and not dinner… so we’ll go back and try some sandwiches one day.

On a whim decided to try this café. Walked in hearing James Taylor and Cat Stevens so I was already happy. The café is impeccably clean, tasteful for a themed restaurant.
Nice variety on the menu. On the sweet server’s suggestion I ordered the chicken salad on flatbread. Ordered for my 2 minions and the lovely angel serving us informed me that their meals cost a penny each. Excuse me? That’s right, my kids had options, I didn’t have to do dishes, and they cost me a whopping 2 cents.
Our lovely server then also pointed me to an impressive shelving unit full of board games, apologizing that all of them may not have all the pieces. Are you kidding me? You’re going to feed and entertain my kids and you’re sorry because people take stuff from your workplace? I’m about to nominate her for sainthood.
The only reason I am not giving these lovely humans 5 stars is that the food was great but not amazing. The chicken salad was fresh, little sweet for me, but that’s purely an opinion. But we will be back often, not only because the kids meals are a penny, but because our server was fantastic, my kids loved it, I’m excited to try other things on the menu, drink specials looked great, atmosphere was easy and relaxed, and we all left happier than when we walked in. Maybe I’ll weigh in again after another meal with five stars.

Flashbacks. Some good. Some not so much. Back in the Day café is well named, sort of. It’s a café but with a bar. It has a relaxed atmosphere with its retro décor and black and white tables. When it’s busy, it gets pretty loud.
The full menu is all-​American food: soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, waffles, pancakes, that took me some time to read. There’s enough of a spin put on some of the dishes that make it a little out of the ordinary, like a grilled pimento cheese sandwich or a battered pearl onion, pickle and jalapeño appetizer. My first visit, I ordered a vegetarian option, a sandwich that had cream cheese, cucumbers, sprouts, spinach, red onion and a couple of other items that made a tasty lighter option. The ketchup served with the fries is a homemade and tasted like cocktail sauce with added Worcestershire. It was good, but being a classic ketchup with fries person, I’m not sure I’d want it all the time.
While I waited for the food, I was able to get a closer look at the Brady Bunch, Rocky, Ferris Bueller, etc. posters on the walls, the vinyl album covers on the bar, and what looks like fan magazine size celebrity pictures, about the same time I figured out the tie-​in to the menu items of Blue Bros. Burgers, Forrest Gump Shrimp and Grits, Caesar Romero salad. Hence the 70s and 80s flashbacks, both good and bad. The over the air MyTv shows, like Remington Steel and MASH, is a nice touch.
BIDC is open for breakfast, but not early enough to catch an 8 – 5 working crowd. That’s too bad, because the breakfast options, also look good. And a Monte Cristo? really? I didn’t think many places really served those anymore.
The café has just opened so they’re still working out the kinks, and the food is a little slow to arrive, but overall, I think this café could be a regular stop.
