This place was somewhat busy but they have plenty of tables to sit at. However, the ice cream was super rich. We didn’t stay long.

Very warm atmosphere, great for a relaxed family visit after a Sunday affair of nature walks or heavy drinking. Interior’s basically one big cafeteria, and I feel the interior decorator half-assed it, but produced an interesting look. The loose spacing can be at once both intimate and communal, there’re these random-ass gymnastic mat things hanging from the ceiling, and the ice cream bar adds a nice back-drop to the eating patrons. Unfortunately, after a few visits, I can confirm Knudsen’s is one of those places that will ALWAYS fuck up at least one element of your meal, but thankfully it’s the lesser items; bland chili cheese fries, seawater-tasting pea soup, etc. But the main courses are on point, fondest memory is of the juicy tuna melt. Very agreeable prices, definitely merits further visits. *Pretty* sure one of the waiters flipped me off when he was inputting our electronic orders, but he works in Castro Valley so I’m not about to add to that. CV is cool, but grand schemely? Sucks. Haven’t had the ice cream(the meals fill me). Will probably be 4 stars once I do.

This place has come a long long way. Do you guys remember when the candy factory WASN’T there and it was a ton of kiddie rides? The good olé days. Greasy diner food at its best. The only savory food I’ve had here is grilled cheese, and that grease never disappoints. The ice cream is of course delicious. Their malt milkshakes are to die for! Literally, I’ll die for them. They did not receive 5 stars because, sometimes, their service is aloof.

Came in with family to grab a quick lunch and ice cream before the park. Since I was with a 5 year old, 3 year old, and newborn, I really appreciated the family vibe this place gave off and that they are very kid friendly. Parking: there is a lot in the back with ample space. Street parking seems to be tough depending on the time of day. Menu is large with tons of choices. I opted for the ½ sandwich combo where I got the crab sandwich with salad. The crab was yummy, I just wished there was more crab to eat!!! The portion size was a bit small for lunch, and I wasn’t completely full. The kids enjoyed their nuggets and the children’s hamburger, so no complaints there. Ice cream(of course we got some!) was delicious! The kids got orange sherbert and birthday cake, which were yummy, perfect balance of creaminess and sweet. I also got the chocolate chip and really liked that there were nice big chunks of chocolate in the deliciously flavorful vanilla ice cream! Only bummer is the price point, it is a bit expensive for what you get. 3 kids ice cream and 2 adult 1 scoop cost me ~$ 17 which I find a bit pricey. All in all, I’d def come back when I’m in the area, but maybe just for the ice cream :)

Took my niece out for a treat, so we decided to go here. The ice cream flavors are yummy but the customer service sucks. They weren’t welcoming at all. And the whole time there I just felt like they didn’t want us there.

I came here with my friend on a rainy Friday night, and the restaurant was still pretty busy. We were seated right away, and ended up ordering a BOAT grilled cheese with curly fries, black & tan sundae, and two scoops of vanilla ice cream with an espresso shot(affagato). The food took awhile to come out, about 15 minutes and it looked like the kitchen was a bit backed up since there was a huge crowd of almost 20 ppl that ended up walking in. The boat grilled cheese sandwich is delicious, especially with the generous serving of curly fries. I like the black & tan sundae at Fentons more than at knudsens because the one at Fentons is more of an ocds person worse nightmare, and the one at knudsens is very neat. The black & tan sundae here did have the most delicious almond ice cream though. I will probably come here instead of Fentons simply because they have such a huge parking lot.

The ice cream milkshakes here are better than any other. It’s perfectly rich and silky. I had the crab salad sandwich with curly fries. My food was perfect, the portion was just right. Super filling and satisfying without weighing you down for an hour. My server was very attentive and friendly. You see a lot of kids here. I think this is a great family resturant that anyone would love. I could see myself coming here for lunch every day. Lol

I came here after lunch to cool down with some ice cream. As soon as I walked in I noticed that this place was crackin. Just about every table was taken and all the employees were running around. I got in line in front of the ice cream and started to check out the menu. I decided on going with a large Sundae. Cookies and cream ice cream with the classic toppings. As I sat down and started staring at this thing I felt like it was staring back at me. This thing was a beast. But I’m scared of nothing. As I dug through the layers of whipped cream, nuts and hot fudge I finally got through to the heart of this beast. My first bite was packed full of an insane amount of flavor. Everything was so rich and delicious. This is definitely one of the best hot fudge sundaes that I’ve been able to wrap my taste buds around. If you’re looking for real ice cream that will blow your mind then look no further.

On a 80+ degree day, I had nothing but ice cream on my mind. So we stopped by the ice creamery for some dinner and dessert. I ordered the B.O.A.T. grilled cheese. This includes Harvarti and cream cheese, bacon, onion strings, avocado, and tomato. With so much ingredients, it didn’t have the effect of a grilled cheese. They definitely could have put more then one slice of cheese in it. Although good, I really was craving a grilled cheese. Their Fries were crunchy and good. Their French dip was mediocre. Nothing to rave about. It’s no Country Way French dip. BUT, it’s an ice creamery. That salvaged it from the food. We shared The Hot Topper. Two scoops of home made ice cream on a banana topped with whip cream and nuts(pretty much a banana split). It was DELICIOUSSSSS. It really hit the spot. The atmosphere of this restaurant is fun and it smells like a candy shop right when you walk in. The service was friendly and I enjoyed the experience. I found one thing funny. While waiting for the restroom, I noticed there were a few puzzles framed in what looked like 1 $ frames. They were selling for $ 50! The puzzles didn’t even look like it was 1000 pieces. What kind of person just spends $ 50 on homemade puzzles? Is that where the money is at? Haha.

TL;DR — Great family-owned restaurant in the heart of Castro Valley! Delicious food, even better dessert, all around some fun attractions for the night, all for a great value! I honestly didn’t expect a family owned creamery like Knudsen’s to be so huge, but it was! We were seated and attended to almost instantly by David. Wonderful service; he has this aura that makes you feel right at home and laugh! Quick and very attentive to our needs. To the food now. Towards the back entrance, you have quite the selection of chocolates, candies, fudges, etc. which you can ask for a sample of. The front sees a nice assortment of ice-cream and sorbet flavors to choose from if you’re in a hurry. My party decided to take a seat and eat some dinner here tonight. Atmosphere was family-friendly; you felt very comfortable just being there, smelling the food being cooked, and so on. I ordered the Sedan Burger with fries and shared a Waffle Bowl Sundae with my friend. The burger, simply put, was flavorful, with the juices from the patty and flavor from portobello mushrooms and provolone cheese blending together to creatr a juicy, succulent, fresh burger. The bun was very soft and ever so slightly toasted with garlic butter. Elevated the dish a bit more. The fries had a satisfying ‘CRUNCH!’ to it when you bit into it, but once inside, was very soft and moist. Overall, the entire dish was flavorful and perfectly executed. I would definitely recommend this of you’re in the mood for a burger. The Waffle Bowl Sundae was also perfectly executed. We chose mint chocolate ice cream to go with the bowl, topped with whipped cream and nuts and a cherry on top. The waffle bowl itself was flavored and sweet, and had the ‘CRUNCH’ you’d expect from a waffle bowl. The sweetness in the waffle bowl actually complemented the ice cream very well in presentation. Would recommend this as well.

Everyone knows how much I love ice cream and ice cream sundaes. I love coming here because it is close to home. It has it’s pro’s over Fentons in Oakland… * Closer to home * Easier parking as it has a much bigger lot in the back compared to Fentons and has a large shopping area across the street you can park at too * Ice cream is just as good * A lot QUIETER than Fenton’s. Now, I know this is silly because it is an ice cream place and it shouldn’t be 100 degrees in the place, but it also shouldn’t feel like you just walked into a freezer either at all times! That’s my only complaint about the place. I get a banana split most of the time and I love it. Lots of ice cream, decent amount of toppings(wish there was just a little bit more) and fresh bananas. I also have purchased gift cards to here. I believe I got them at Costco one time, don’t mark my words on that, but I remember getting a pack of 4 cards at a discounted price too!

Aww, this place used to be called the Ice Creamery but it changed names and ownership while I was living in Orange County. It seems like it’s décor has changed, but I could be wrong. My dad and I ordered the angus steak sliders, and boy oh boy were they delicious! I would order those sliders again, they also give you fries and a handful of onion rings. The entire meal was delicious and affordable. My mom didn’t have dinner, instead she ordered her favorite ice cream and loved it. Parking is in the back, it’s kind of hard to find as the driveway, doesn’t really look like a driveway. The parking lot could use some do overs, it desperately needs new asphalt, it’s currently hard on the suspension of a car. The parking spaces are super tight and small, you have to be really careful when parking there. It’s a fun Ice Creamery on Castro Valley Blvd. There is plenty of seating. The next time I get to go, I will try the Ice Cream.

I’ve been coming to knudsen’s since I was little and always coming here after soccer games with my teams. Knudsen’s sells everything from ice cream, candy, pie and food. The place looks very local and has always looked the same as long as I could remember. They have their own parking lot in the back of the restaurant. I usually like to order the crab salad sandwiches here. I’m a crab junky and this place has a really good sandwich. They only use 100% real crab meat. No imitation crab involved at all. The sandwiches are packed with crab and served with fries. I like to dip my sandwiches in ketchup and mayo like with everything I eat. It is kind of pricey but so worth it! More recently I ordered a chili dog and shared it with my boyfriend. It’s really big and really filling. It’s delicious. I do wish they added more chili with it though. We got it with curly fries. It was really good and about $ 9. Their ice cream here is always good. My go to flavor is Swiss milk chocolate. So good! It’s not heavy with chocolate flavor and it’s just the right amount of sweetness. I usually just order a youth size scoop b/c their servings are huge. Sometimes I’ll order a vanilla scoop with just hot fudge. That’s delicious as well. Overall, great local place with great food and ice cream!

Came here tonight with my Bible Study girls and myself for a night of fellowship and ice cream. For a Tuesday, it was incredibly busy and a little loud that we couldn’t hear each other talk. We arrived here around 7pm just in time for dinner. I ordered the roast beef tri tip. And let me tell you, absolutely delicious! You know that feeling of being hecka full but you got room for a bite of ice cream? Well, this ice creamy has just the thing! They had $ 1.00 mini cones that just satisfy that little sweet tooth. As for service, for how crowded it was, Brenda and her colleagues attended to us quickly and she was really patient with us. Especially with the fact we all had separate checks too.

I wish I had known this place when I was a child. For anyone under 10, I can imagine this place being a wonderland. It has toys everywhere, huge sundaes and a lot of chocolates. The sundaes by the way are the highlight. They are overloaded, served with them barely fitting into the serving dish and with generous doses of the toppings. They do have sandwiches and other items as well which are good but that’s not why you would come here. I have tried multiple sundaes. The last one I had was with the caramel almond ice cream with fudge which was really really good. They fudge and the caramel sauces are all made in-house and great. The ice cream is all made right there as well. This location has been around a while and the menu has their history which is kinda cool. Go check it out!

While I’m not too big a fan of their food I will always appreciate what they are especially good at; their ice cream, of course! It is always super creamy and soft, never any issues with ice chips or freezer burn. Unfortunately, service is always just meh. The dining area always seems to be a mess. When you first walk in you can seat yourself and someone will come over with menu’s, but it’s always an issue finding some help after that. Long waits to get your drinks, have your order taken, to receive your order, and get your check/change. Everyone is friendly, but either they’re always short handed or they just have too much to do at one time. Either way, they’ll have to step that up to get some extra stars from me.
