We’ve been to Maybelle’s 3 times in the past 4 months. The food is outstanding, the room is very cool, and the service was charming. This place rocks. I hope they begin to really promote it as there’s never a crowd and they seem oddly ok with that. We’ve had their mozzarella appetizer each time. Enough for 3 to share(though we got 3 for 7 of us last time) and really the best I’ve ever had. Warm, salty, delicious. The mushrooms and squash were also great last weekend. The duck breast, salmon and risotto were among our favorite entrees. We brought our own wine. That’s a HUGE value. Take advantage of that opportunity while it lasts. You have to contact them through their Facebook page for a reservation. Do that! That way they know there will be customers and they’ll get ready for you. I can’t wait to get back!

Overall the food is done well but the service and the portions are a disappointment. Sandwiches are presented on giant plates with no sides, making it look like you’ve been served more empty plate than anything else, and in the $ 12+ range you’d expect maybe some chips or something. Service is not very professional, conducting personal business in the front of house while tables in earshot… I don’t really care if it’s slow, you put on some music and don’t talk about your problems, call vendors, and email people in the front when you’re open. The place lacks energy and excitement given that it opened not too long ago.

Excellent food and a very friendly helpful staff. I held a wedding rehersal dinner there for 35 people. Matt was very helpful putting together the menu and accommodating the crowd even though most of them showed up an hour late. Everyone raved about the food. Definitely check it out for just a meal or as party venue.

I just had one of the best sandwiches ever here. Also, the staff was professional and polite. This may be my new favorite spot in the Northern Catskill’s.

Stopped in for a light lunch last week. Hummus and naan, fresh mozzarella and bread. Both excellent.

I was really looking forward to my meal here, as Catskill really needs a solid, destination restaurant. Boy, was I disappointed. First, the service was a total mess. Though the place was more than half empty and we arrived after the prime seating hour, the staff acted as if it was a hardship to seat two of us. One waitress seemed to have never waited tables before, dropping silverware, leaving dirty dishrags in front of us, etc. The other put on an attitude like she was the sommelier of a top Parisian restaurant. Then there was the meal itself: shockingly bland, yet pricey. Seriously, I wanted to like this place – but won’t be back unless I hear from friends that it has turned things around…

Stopped in for lunch today and everything was fantastic. We had the homemade mozzarella as an app. Duck hash and flank steak sandwich for the meal. We finished by splitting the gluten free Almond Coconut cake with lattes. Can’t wait to go back to try dinner.

I’ve been back twice, one lunch and one dinner. We brought a killer 2000 Chambertin clos de beze, which was just great. So much for the wine. appetizers: small potatoes mustard, lemon and blue cheese — flavors delicious, but too much which became too heavy. Share one or two potatoes each. Peeketoe Crab salad, lovely light flavors — delicious and light balanced acid and heat Duck breast: wonderful flavors with the sauce Steak: LARGE portion well prepared, sliced and finished. The purée turnip works with the demiglace. I really like the flavors and the food. I strongly recommend a light salad before the main, since the entrees are deep, indulgent meals. Eat here, but remember, don’t double dip on the heavy appetizers. Just too much food.

Great addition to Catskill. There’s no other haut cuisine restaurant in town. It’s right on Main St in the beautiful old section. The meals are inventive and delicious. The prices are a little more than other local spots but one can order on the cheap too. Let’s hope the world discovers Maybelle’s in time for them to succeed!

Am thrilled to know about this restaurant: ambition AND delivery. An obv accomplished chef behind the door — everything so thoughtfully and expertly put together. You will be hard pressed to find anything else so modern, tasty and honest. Wait staff(both times) super friendly, knowledgable and proud of their menu. Just a great overall meal at both brunch and dinner

Came in the other morning for an egg sandwich. The waitress wasn’t the greatest and the sandwich took awhile to come out, given there were only a couple other people in the joint — 15 – 20 minutes — but it was a delicious breakfast. The buttermilk biscuit was moist and flaky, the proportion of ingredients was perfect, and the goat cheese is a nice touch. I agree with the other reviews that there are some kinks that will hopefully be improved upon — in addition to the service and wait, the décor feels a bit unfinished and ramshackle — but, overall, excited to have this spot nearby.

We have friends in catskills and were upstate this weekend doing our«get out of Brooklyn» from time to time trip. Five of us ate dinner and it was a sharing bunch so I got to taste many dishes. We ordered the simplest, least expensive salad. simple mixed greens, crisp fennel, cucumber and lemon. In its simplicity this salad shone because very ingredient was perfect and combined in the right proportions and dressed just enough. Dishes on the table included sesame noodles(a special) pan seared duck breast, black sea bass, pulled pork bisteeya. Every dish was beautifully seasoned with a Peruvian twist but more of the twist of flavors created by an amazing Chef. The vegetables were prepared perfectly and well chosen to compliment the main dish. For me the pulled pork dish was the standout. The pork and been baked in a casement of Phillo dough. It was plated on top of a shallow pool beautifully flavored sauce. Before I go on to the not criticism, but keep working on it part of this review I want to emphasize that everyone at our table was very happy we had chosen the place. They don’t have a wine or liquor license. We brought two bottles of wine. The corking fee was $ 10. In my NYC experience that was pretty high. No big deal but the waitress really went in to a silly TMI on this explaining they had to wash the glasses or some such nonsense and that is why they charged that much. My guess is they aren’t going to apply for wine/beer/liquor license. They are open from early morning and if they make this thing work it will be around breakfast, lunch, brunch. Success is going to be getting local people to love this place and become steady customers. Totally hope it goes that way because based on dinner, the food was terrific and nice looking space. Another reviewer had something to say about the bread and that was a weak point. There was a mussel dish on the table that was served with no bread. Gotta have that to enjoy the saucy gatherin on the bottom of the bowl. These thin, toasted, left over from breakfast slices of bread showed up.

It’s got great website, very nice space, excellent waitress, BUT the worst eggs benedict I’ve ever eaten. Everything that could go wrong with it went wrong with it. The English muffin was barely toasted, the hollandaise cause was cold, and the eggs could have been cook a bit longer, so unfortunately it was a cold and gooey experience. There are so few options in this town I am sure to be back, but if it’s anything like my first experience I will never go back. I really hope they figure it out, because Catskill desperately needs a good restaurant.

Just stopped in for lunch and it was great. High quality gourmet food at a reasonable price. I was initially concerned that a sandwich wouldn’t fill me up, but the flavored and ingredients were so good it did just that. We ordered the Cubano, lamb say which and pork belly salad and they were all excellent.

I’ve eaten here twice with my family(brunch and dinner). I think it is the best food in the area. Unlike most places, the ingredients here are very high quality, which the prices reflect. The egg sandwich with goat cheese was excellent. Get the buttermilk streusel cake if they have it — even better than homemade. The service is very attentive. Lovely atmosphere in the dining room. One suggestion — turn down the thrash metal music in the kitchen.

Beautiful Art Deco atmosphere. Menu seemed great until I actually tried to choose … Went for lunch. The banh mi style sandwich had great flavor however the bread was basically so hard I could barely chew it and was literally uncomfortable I could hurt my teeth trying. For 13 $ you get a small sandwich with nothing else on the plate at all. Sides like gourmet carrots are 5 $ and coffee similar so lunch for two somehow was 40 $ and I actually was hungry an hour later and I’m a pretty small person. I love farm to table style food and the upscale feeling like your in a period film set from but the food doesn’t seem to match that full effect yet. I didn’t feel like telling the waitress about the disappointment in feeling the bread was inedible but in retrospect wish I had.

I know they are brand new so I’m keeping that in mind. 3 stars because there are some kinks that need to be ironed out, and I’m sure they will be. The Good: The atmosphere of the restaurant is great. Cozy, tons of booths and nice music played at the right level. The coffee was great as well. The egg sandwich my wife had was very good, on a homemade english muffin. The goat cheese on the sandwich was tasty she thought. It would have been nice to have a small side salad or potatoes with the dish as it sat alone on the plate. It seems like the restaurant has a lot of ambition and a lot of potential. The wait staff was very attentive and upbeat. All in all, a good experience. The Needs Improvement: I had the Eggs Benedict. It arrived as a mess on the plate. The waitress explained that the first egg broke so they added a third. OK, but the newly added egg was pretty undercooked and the result was way too much runny egg all over everything. The white on one egg was mostly clear. Now, I don’t mind a runny egg, but I would have preferred this a little more set. I ate it, it wasn’t terrible, but the dish was way to runny and sloppy, like a soup really on the plate. Just too much runny egg and hollaindaise drowning the rest. Anyway, the waitress asked how I liked it and I explained it was good, but the eggs could have been more done(a helpful suggestion). She came back to remind me that the eggs were not under done, but rather Sous Vide and supposed to be like that and they would not serve under cooked eggs(in a tone as though I was some rube who didn’t understand the miracles of Sous Vide or poached eggs). It was a little too defensive. I get Sous Vide, but I also know when an egg is under poached. Anyway, not cool to tell the customer that they are wrong and don’t understand the way something is supposed to be. Not a huge deal, but I wonder if they will have this problem with others? And on that note, we heard all three of the other diners in the restaurant make some kind of complaint or comment to the waitress or themselves about their food. It was surprising to us that one diner asked for her eggs to be scrambled and was informed they could not do that because they did not have the equipment for it(to scramble an egg) but could over-easy(go figure). I want to like this place, and I’m sure I will go back when they’ve had a chance to get their rhythm down a bit. They’ve got the right idea and I support that and wish them luck.

A welcome addition to the picturesque town of Catskill, this terrific little bistro is sure to please. The excellent breakfast and lunchtime fare includes savory egg dishes, artisanal sandwiches(the pulled pork cubano is excellent), and tempting salads. A bright spot amongst the humdrum offerings on Main Street. Plans are afoot to open for dinner — can’t wait!
