Stopped in for breakfast one Sunday. We both had omlettes. They were OK. Good homefries. Only complaint really was I had a mushroom and cheese omlette and the mushrooms were obviously canned mushrooms. Coffee was good & hot.,

I loved it. I had a great lunch after touring Frederick Church’s home Olana on the other side of the river. I wanted something fast and this vintage style basic diner served the purpose in a great way. I had a bacon cheeseburger and sweet potato fries. It was delicious and about the price of McDonalds. The waitress and cook were very friendly and the place was very clean. I can see why it is a favorite of the locals. These local Mom and Pop style non-franchised places are going to disappear if they arent supported. I will cheerfully return when in the area!

stopped by Penny’s this morning for breakfast 3 rd time I’ve been there since changed owners. My first breakfast meal a ham & egg omelette with toast and coffee. Service was good and so was the food.

What a dreary greasy-spoon dive this place is. The Hub and I pulled up famished and waited for this place to open after our all-night drive from Manhattan. What a mistake. Upon entering, we were not acknowledged by anyone, so we chose one of the two dingy tables and waited and waited for someone to come by. If we weren’t so starved from that long drive we’d have walked out. Finally I waved to the guy behind the counter and gave him a confused look, at which point he came over with a couple of greasy menus but not a word of greeting, then returned to his counter. He finally showed up to take our orders — in total silence again, which, at this point, I interpreted as deliberate rudeness. While waiting for our food, I noticed that, of the small handful of customers occupying the counter stools, all were older, truck-driver types, and not one of them spoke to the other. That nasty counter guy didn’t speak to any of them either, yet seemed to know their orders anyway. Ah, regulars! So did this explain the hostility — because we weren’t regulars? How welcoming! And in a tourist town, yet. Funny, the last time I checked, new customers’ money was just as good as that of regulars. The food, I hoped, might redeem this so-far depressing dining experience, but I was in for no surprise there: Cold, burnt toast, eggs swimming in(get ready for it) LARD! No offer to refill coffee or water, no jelly, syrup, or sweeteners on the table(all of which had to be specifically requested, since the guy wasn’t speaking to us). What a dining disaster! And so early in the morning, too — just in time to ruin our entire day. After some local research, I learned that this place used to be called«Couchies Corner», and was there a long time, serving mainly local regs, but was recently bought by one of the former waitresses, «Penny» after the owner died. It’s obvious that Penny should have stuck to waiting tables. Heaven help her when the old regulars all die off and no new customers will return due to both the horrendously unhealthy food and the hostility they’re shown here. They say«you reap what you sow». Good luck, Penny.
