Let me start off by letting you know that I do not like seafood. My husband has been wanting to come to sweeney’s for awhile and I gave in… It did win best of Dayton two years in a row. We called ahead to make a reservation, the hostess informed me that a large group was coming in at the time we wanting and suggested we come a few minutes early to make sure our order was placed before the group. When we arrived the open table was a 6top(there was only 2 of us) but we took it. Waitress was over fairly quick. We ordered drinks and crab cakes. Waitress got the drinks in a decent time and we ordered dinner. You only get 2 crab cakes, but they are delicious! Good timing before salads brought out, and then the bread came. The salads were small, but filling. Good timing before food brought out. My husbands order was wrong and corrected within 5 minutes, and the waitress apologize for putting in the wrong fish. I ordered fish and chips(since I don’t like fish). The fries were perfect. So was the fish. I recommend it!

We are in the process of moving to Dayton and this lovely place is our new favorite restaurant! Everything we tried was absolutely amazing and the staff were the best.

Hadn’t been here … well about 10 yrs. Tried it for restaurant week which is a great way to try new places for a reduced price. It was a nice meal. loved the aquariums. We shared the Smoked Salmon Crêpe: Hand-filled crêpe filled with cold Norwegian Smoked Salmon and Dill Crème Fraiche and Fried Bay Scallops: Fresh Nantucket Island Bay Scallops lightly breaded and fried, served with house-made Sriracha Tartar sauce Sweeney’s White Bean Shrimp Chili: Creamed based Chili with Shrimp, Northern White Beans, Corn, Black Beans, Peppers and Southwestern spices topped with Tortilla chips and cheddar cheese. Tangy Pear and Blue Cheese Salad: Mixed salad greens, crumbled blue cheese, chopped pears, walnuts and red onions combined with a tangy, tomato based dressing Entrees Japanese Fried Shrimp: Five Extra Jumbo Shrimp, hand-breaded with Japanese Panko bread crumbs, fried, served over Asian fried rice and drizzled with house-made Soy syrup Crab and Scallop Stuffed Sole: Two Sole Roulades stuffed with Crab and Scallops topped with house-made Lobster Cream sauce and Asparagus salmon crêpe was ok wouldn’t get again. same with shrimp soup. ok but wouldn’t get again. I loved the pear salad but that’s the only thing we would get again. The shrimp with fried rice. the shrimp were large and very good but the rice was awful. had a weird wrong flavor. My husband had the stuffed fish but I didn’t like it. He ate it but wouldn’t get anything we had again. would go back but try something else.

We are from Michigan and looked for a place to have a relaxing dinner that was not a chain. We hit the jackpot! The décor is unique, tasteful and calm. The first thing I noticed was the number of saltwater fish tanks that were crystal clear, each one containing a different type of fish. Derrick was so helpful in describing the many menu options and a complimenting wine. We had two different starters. We shared the escargot and scallops. Both were amazing! Being fans of rare tuna, we both ordered the sesame seared tuna served with broccoli. My husband added the mashed potatoes with truffle oil. We savored every bite! The owner/chef came to our table and treated us like family. Later his partner did the same. After he described that all desserts were made from scratch we had to try the coconut cream cheese cake, his creation. I intended to have one bite. I couldn’t stop. Licked the plate clean. An ordinary Wednesday turned into a fabulous date night with a top-notch dining experience. We will definitely stop here again when visiting family.

We are out of towners. This was recommended by a friend. The service was superb but the bread pudding will bring us back again. Two choices of oysters big and super big. A delicious treat.

My bestie and I are there at least once a week. Doug the bartender is superb with his mixology, Lisa’s hospitality is so warm and welcoming, and her pies are the best! Might I mention trying the fish & chips… If your in the Centerville area it’s a must visit!

New to the area and thought we would try out some local spots. The seafood was great for a reasonable price. Lobster bisque, pesto scallops, and the fries are some of the best I’ve ever had. I highly recommend and think it’s better than Jay’s.

I’ve frequented this place, not often, but enough to determine my recommendation(or not). .**Drum Roll**. RECOMMEND! My mom is in town and decided to take her out for some seafood. Great decision. We had a couple of small side salads and I ordered an appetizer, which so happened to be «featured», btw. It was pesto flatbread w/shrimp., and it was beautiful. I’m sooooo not a table bread guy, but I’m glad I stepped outside my usual lane. The pesto was done perfectly and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Entrees: I coaxed my mom into the fish & grits, while I kept it very kid-like and ordered the coconut shrimp and sweet potato fries. My only complaint w/my meal was there weren’t enough sweet potato fries for my liking. Now, take that complaint w/a grain of salt, as(my mother would attest) I have an unhealthy affinity to fries. Mom’s shrimp & grits hit the jackpot. She calmly confessed, «I didn’t expect this.» There’s a red Cajun sauce that immerses both the shrimp & grits, but the peppers & onions as well. If I had to critique anything, I’d tell the chef, «be a lil more judicious w/the sauce, homey.» Aside from that, great experience. It’s a definite try for you seafood enthusiasts… NOT snobs.

Had dinner there last week, and enjoyed a nice dinner salad along with their sea scallops and baked potato. The draft brew was good too. Had good service and the place was pretty empty… except for the bar which was full of locals chatting away! My client here in Miamisburg just picked Sweeney’s for a project team dinner tonight, so it looks like I am going back! Looking forward to it. Loved the aquariums too!

Good food, great service! Everyone that works here is so friendly. My husband ordered the linguine with clams and it was great. His dish was very fresh and aromatic. We got our son the cheese burger off of the kids menu, my husband said that was good as well. I ordered grilled shrimp and scallops with balsamic mushrooms. I asked for cocktail sauce with raw horseradish on the side just to give it a kick. Everything was so good I wish I had a plate right now.

We stopped in Sweeney’s this evening for dinner, and we decided to try their featured wine, Merlot by Castel Mimi. What can I say? This wine became the highlight of our evening. Thanks Sweeney’s!

Fantastic seafood! We had reservations on Father’s Day. We were seated quickly and overheard the hostess mention they were slammed all day. The owner seated us and filled in for our waitress — I happened to think it’s awesome that the owner cares so much and made sure all the guests were having a pleasant experience! The décor is beachy and the fish tanks are so cool! The FOOD! We had crab cakes, oysters rockefeller, and mussels to start. All were great. I love love loved the crab cakes– tons of crab meat! I’m not a huge oyster fan but I’ll eat just about anything with cheese on top, these didn’t disappoint. I had a Oscar filet which was cooked perfectly– the«crust» on the steak was delicious. At the table we also had lobster tails(huge!), salmon, and the Cajun pasta. Everything was fantastic. This is our go-to seafood spot near Dayton!

My husband and I had dinner at Sweeney’s for the first time this evening. We were looking for something new to try and since Sweeney’s is so close to home with decent reviews, we gave it a shot. I’m so glad we did! When we vacation in Florida we’re always on the hunt for a new seafood restaurant. There don’t seem to be a lot of options at home other than Red Lobster. Sweeney’s is priced about the same as Red Lobster, but SO much better quality! The portions are not huge, but reasonably sized. We both have big appetites, but felt the amount of food was just right. We felt satisfied, not stuffed and didn’t have any leftovers. Quality over quantity. I had the fried Fisherman’s platter with scallops, oysters, and clams. It was was delicious! The scallops were some of the best I’ve had and I think this is the only place I’ve seen in the area to get fried oysters. My husband had the crab cakes which were very good as well. We both had the truffle mashed potatoes and loved them! The atmosphere is like an upscale restaurant, but also felt casual. They have four large beautiful aquariums that really make the restaurant. Our server was very polite and professional. We will definitely be back!

Some dishes are very good like the crab stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms are perfectly set with a burgundy and topped with gruyère creating a great flavor combination. The jambalaya was also good and flavorful. However the actual fish left much to be desired. While tender and flakey there was an absolute lack of flavor instead relying on tarter and cocktail sauce. Honestly it was Gross and I could not finish it.

They do seafood right! Favorites are the Shrimp & Grits, Crab Cakes, and Blackened Scallops(if you want the scallops to have a great char and to be blackened right — ask for it to be «blackened the old way», they will know what you are talking about and your scallops will come out perfect). Service here has always been great and it’s nice that the owners make rounds to ensure their customers are satisfied. Fresh, flavorful, delicious dishes.

First timer’s here — my beautiful girlfriend and I. To make this short: the place is very attractive on the inside — beautiful décor, but the quantity of the food and the quality of the food that I tried wasn’t up to par, especially not for the price. The building seems small, but this is misleading. We were immediately amazed at how big it was inside and how gorgeous the bar and fish tanks looked. What a nice surprised. We had the Broiler Seafood Platter with a lobster tail substitution(which is an extra $ 7), broccoli on the side and a salad with Apple Cider Vinaigrette dressing. The broccoli was good and fresh. However, this was the most enjoyable par of the meal. I myself am not a fan of scallops so the scallops that came with this dish didn’t make a good impression. My girlfriend, who does like them, pointed out the fact that one out of the three of them was undercooked, which added to the gummy texture. We couldn’t stomach the last piece. The seasoning in general, namely the butter that came with the dish, was undetectable. There was no salt or pepper on the table(we ate outside), so we just dealt with it. The tail was very small, and that’s disappointing as well considering the price. We also shared a three berry sangria, which tasted like watered down vodka with three blueberries in it. Wished it had been sweeter. Good amount in the glass, though. The bread that came out was warm and pleasant. To wrap it up, maybe this just wasn’t a good first visit, but it is much too expensive for the portions of food. One of the owners –Lisa, I think– was very welcoming and friendly. Would consider coming back for another go… but only ordering an appetizer for the trip.

I still like this place. Doug is a really good tender of bar, knows his trade well. Fish and chips were a good value for the 20 clams. Huge piece of cod lightly battered with a club soda batter. Maybe its not as good as when Ron had it and there were more aquariums, the parking is just plain odd and hard to navigate on a snowy night, but all in all Sweeneys works. Quality product served by pros. Its on my GO list.

The night my husband I went here was on a Friday. It was not exceptionally busy when we arrived around 6(we didn’t have reservations) but by the time we left most tables were occupied. I had some kind of shark with bearnaise sauce and thought it was very good. The description called for asparagus but I substituted broccoli unfortunately it was over cooked. My husband ordered the tuna and it was under done and his broccoli was over cooked as well. Our meals came with a house salad and choice of dressing. The salads were nothing special but I did like my ranch dressing however the blue cheese that my husband ordered was suppose to have chunks of blue cheese which it did not and he said his seem wilted. The overall décor of the restaurant is plain. After reading other reviews I was expecting a little bit more than this restaurant has to offer. It wasn’t bad just not exceptional.
