New Golden Garden

I used to love this place before but it just started to go down after when I ordered chicken with broccoli. I preferred that and I found a weird insect in a pice of broccoli and I threw out the entire plate and I decided to never eat here again and went to the new place that just opened up in central Islip

What a mistake.
I am absolutely regretting that I didn’t check Unilocal before ordering lunch today. I called in an order of fried scallops and shrimp dumplings (which is risky for a random Chinese joint, I know, but I was feeling it). The food arrived promptly which is the only nice thing I’ll have to say about The New Golden Garden. The scallops couldn’t have been more bland. There was not a drop of seasoning to be found, and they were pretty dry too. I wish I could say the same for the shrimp dumplings, but instead of being bland, the dumplings were super fishy and left the taste of regret on my tongue.
Should this be my only option in the future, I will gladly skip lunch.

this place is horrible, do not go here or eat here, i order food for me and my husband and the chicken was BROWN! Run far awayyyyyy!

Tom K — I, too, wish I had gone to Unilocal first. Hotel I was in had it amongst their menu collection and I was pressed for time. Worst mistake of my week.
This is probably the worst Chinese food I have ever had. A good amount of the delivery bag (more than most chinese eateries) was filled with duck sauce, soy sauce, sweet and sour sauce, hot sauce presumably to mask the nasty taste of this nearly inedible «cuisine.» I ordered the beef and broccoli. I asked for it spicy. The only seasoning was the salt from the canned glue they try to pass off as beef gravy. Steak was stringy-​chewy, broccoli a very strange shade of green (didn’t eat it).
I can’t even begin to describe the crab rangoon. really. i even just put another one in my mouth to see if any words come to mind to describe the taste. «Bleck» is all that would come out (followed by the rangoon).
Please if you’re tempted, just don’t. You’ll only be repeating my and the other two reviewers’ mistakes.

Why did I not look at Unilocal before ordering from here? I always do. I was in a hurry today. Big mistake.
Egg Roll — chewey
Egg Drop soup — lumpy, just not good
Seafood Combination — most expensive item on the menu, the shrimp wasn’t bad, the rest of it is really bad imitation meat. And the entire dish is covered in some kind of congealed fatty sauce.
I had my food delivered, so I didn’t get to see their location, but based on the other review, I’m glad I didn’t.
I have fairly low expectations for a restaurant like this, and this place still didn’t meet it.

As far as Chinese restaurants go, this place is really hurting. Should you doubt this, i encourage you to take a deep look over the counter and look at the condition of the kitchen.
Cooking oil looks like its a year old, and is totally dirty. The kitchen is disgusting looking like it hasn’t had a thorough cleaning in years. Food is scattered about haphazardly.
I can’t help to wonder what the board of health would think of this place.
Then there’s the food… The produce used to make the food appears to be old. It is wilted on everything I’ve had in there.
I’ve eaten there three times for lunch and twice I had to throw out my food after only taking a few bites. The taste I could best describe as «unsanitary.» Needless to say I’m done giving this place a chance.
The dining area is disgusting as well. Everything you touch from the tables to the garbage can is grimy and looks like it’s never been cleaned.
The trays they serve the food on do not appear to ever get washed.
There is also a major language barrier. when you give your order, the staff does not appear to know enough English to even take it. They were asking me questions and I had no idea what they were saying.
If you’ve ever watched the show «Kitchen Nightmares» on fox, you just may think you are walking into an episode.
Run for the hills.
