Consistently good food and great service. We have gone here at least a dozen times and never have been disappointed.

Clives is a place we tend to bring family and friends to when we have visitors. Generally, food is good, in fact, my husband loves their food. However, we were highly disappointed with our most recent visit in December. We had two different severs switching half way through. The first one knew nothing about the menu or specials and had to keep running to ask the manager questions. I had ordered a steak: medium well. When i fist cut open the steak my husband and our current house guest both stopped me and said«don’t eat that!» That steak was so under cooked it fell short of even qualifying as rare. We sent it back– a new steak came out after everyone else was long done eating. Annoying, but this is ok with me, however, i expect an apology, discount off the tab, visit by the manager. Something, anything? Nope.

Good beer options. Food was nice. Steaks bit was juicy. A bit difficult to find this place. It was noisy and the service was ok

Great food, and great service! They have a full bar with a decent tap selection, and plenty of menu choices. Their wings and burgers are my favorite.

Stellar food, drinks, and takeout for the area. We moved here this summer and have had consistently great luck for an easy takeout dinner or quick drinks. Really nice folks working there too, pretty happening little spot for a northern suburb. (We moved from uptown and this food is better here than most of the overrated restaurants in that area)

The atmosphere and wait staff were great. I started with the tator tots for an appetizer which were very good. The drink prices were great and plenty to choose from, so off to a good start, but then… I had the meatloaf, which was only okay because the canned gravy was awful. The potatoes had a weird flavor that I could not place. The vegetables were tasty, but were over cooked. I have a senstivity to MSG and while eating dinner had a reaction, to I think the gravy(typically canned, jarred or powerder beef bases etc., contain this) I try to watch out for it, but there it was… I felt horrible for quite sometime. My husband had the pulled pork, which tasted like it was from a package. I don’t think the restaurant makes the pork on-site for the«Q». The pork was dried out and covered in a cloying sweet, vinegary sauce. The waffle fries are frozen, but tasty, fresh cut fries would have been awesome… Restaurants should be open with their cooking style, spell out if the food is fresh or mostly packaged and then prepared on site. I would go back for the atmosphere and have a beverage, I may even try a different dish, just wish more restaurants cooked from scratch.

Our server Tabitha was outstanding! Not only did she refill our beverages before they were half empty, she gave many suggestions on what to order. She deserves an accommodation! We started with the edamame which was some of the best that I’ve ever eaten. It was covered with garlic and red pepper flakes as well as white and black sesame seeds. The sauce had ponzu, Worcesteshire, and something else that I can’t remember, but was good enough to drink. I ordered the shrimp tacos that were accompanied with corn chips and salsa as well as guacamole. Every bite had medium sized shrimp in it and a sauce that was dripping out. Yum Clive’s giant burrito was just so so. I felt the flavor was good but it was just loaded with too much rice. More of the spicy chicken and less rice would make it better. If I return(I live in Orlando), I’d try the burger and the chicken wild rice soup. They’re fries are supposed to be great(regular and waffle) as well as their salads.

It’s really too bad that the owners of this establishment have chosen to turn it over to poor managers. On two separate occasions I have watched the bar service working hard to keep up. One of the bartenders asked the manager for help to keep up and in both cases, believe it or not the manager said«that’s what we pay you for honey!» And«you can keep up just pour faster»! My jaw dropped both times! On the positive note, the appetizers are good. The rest of the main menu is just overpriced bar food and extraordinarily average.

I love Clives! Whenever I’m in the area I make it a point to stop in. I was in late last week and was impressed by how good the quality of food was at 11:30 at night. My favorite is the margherita pizza; 6 bucks on happy hour. I also like the fact that tater tots are available as a side without an upcharge. A dollar for seasoned sour cream is a bit steep though. The service has always been great.

Remember that old movie with Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott? Yeah… This one isn’t quite like the Roadhouse in the movie. It has one high point though, it is close to home. It should be my go to place just based on proximity; however, I have only been to Clive’s three times. At night, it is a happening place. It is always busy at the dining room or the bar. It’s always hard to find parking. However, you probably can find Champlin’s finests there of course. I had several things in their menu. I like their wild rice soup and I also enjoyed the Northern Pike Fish Fry that I had twice. Love that they serve tater tots as a substitute of fries. Both of the fish selections were decent. I enjoyed all of my meals. The atmosphere is definitely more appealing at night than during lunch service that was pretty dead. It’s busy, loud, and lively at night and I heard at times they also have live music. For a neighborhood bar and restaurant, it is more than decent. I was actually rather surprised to find that it is more fun and nice than what I expected. The service has always been fast and pleasant too. It took me over a year to give them a try. I wish I had tried them sooner. Surprisingly for a small town like Champlin, there are many good places to eat. Though it won’t make me eat locally all the time, I am sort of proud of my town.

Awesome place all around. Fantastic happy hour specials and a killer patio for when the weather is nice. The food is outstanding as well. Definitely one of the better bar/restaurant establishments I’ve eaten at over in the Brooklyn Park area. Great place to catch the latest sports game as well. Patrons as well as employees were super friendly and contributed to the fun, laid back atmosphere. Will be back!

Been to Clive’s a few times now for dinner & drinks and always pleased with service & good quality food. The style is a more upscale version of classic pub food. Fish tacos were nicely seasoned and had lots of fresh flavor. Servers have always attentive & helpful.

I finally got to stop in and see what all the locals were talking about. A nice restaurant located on the corner if 169N. On Sundays they have happy hour from 11am to close. I ordered the boneless buffalo wings and cheese curds off the happy hour menu. The cheese curds were overlooks and dry. I was disappointed I looooooove when the cheese is gooey. The boneless buffalo wings were huge! I ordered the traditional buffalo sauce BUT they came out with their bourbon which is pretty much BBQ. I was upset but didn’t want to wait for a new batch. The BBQ was pretty good. I would totally order it again. Everyone talked about their chicken fried chicken so you know that’s what I ordered. ITWASTHEBESTIVEEVERHAD!!! The chicken was huge and very moist. It wasn’t soggy due to the gravy but crispy & cooked just right. Served on top of garlic Mashed potatoes and vegetables on the side. It was perfect! Tons of flavor. I ordered a cup of creamy chicken wild rice soup. It was so tiny but delicious. And had big veggies and tons of shredded chicken. The strawberry lemonade was BOMB! Free refills with food purchase.

This is a local restaurant. It was nice and had a fun atmosphere. The chicken fried chicken was a nice breast that was juicy! It was delicious! The cheese curds were a little over cooked and we ordered buffalo boneless chicken but got BBQ flavor instead. It was still good though. They forgot to get us small plates for the appetizers but service was fast. I would go back again.

Stopped in at 5:30 pm on a weekday night and the place was packed yet was able to snag a table without a wait. It was not our intended destination(Q Fanatic) but we had an acceptable meal here. Service was a bit slow but not terrible. Food was as advertised and the cut of meat they used in my dish was surprisingly nice — Cowboy Stew and I expected some tough steak — it wasn’t. Would try it again were I in the area and couldn’t reach Q Fanatic.

Food/Drink: We stopped here for a drink and boy was it worth it. Not sure what the size of beer was, but it was big. Make sure that you like the beer you order otherwise you’ll be miserable which isn’t good for anyone. They do have a decent selection, but nothing remarkable. Saw a couple food dishes fly by, but didn’t see or hear anything sounding el-awesome. Ambiance: I’m not sure what a road house is, but gosh darn’t this is the best one I’ve been to. Big bar with enough tables to shake a stick at, but really the patio is the hook. If you get a chance, get out there, kick back and relax. The clientele was surprisingly lively for this neck of the woods. We left a little earlier then close, but it was still hopping enough at the bar to make sure you had a good time with everyone else. Service: No real issue. Beers were ordered and delivered. Empty equaled next order and she checked if we wanted the same before progressing down a fiasco of failure. We did go through a few waitresses, which could have been either their shift setup or that we were there that long(did I mention those are big beers?). Overall: There’s a bunch of other bars you could absolutely fail at. This is not one of them, especially considering the location and ambiance. Choose this over any chain and you’ll be a happy camper. Not sure about the food, so take your chances there.

I can always count on walking into Clives and being treated well. The friendly hostesses and attentive waitstaff display excellent serving skills that make you feel comfortable and welcome. Great place to watch a game or just down a few brews. Go there!

While passing though Champlin this past Saturday night my wife and I stopped for dinner at Clive’s, and while I would say there are some opportunities for improvement, overall we both enjoyed ourselves. The place was packed and lively, even at 5:30pm when we walked in. Luckily we found a couple nice seats at the bar and settled in. Beers were still on happy hour at that time(until 6), so we each tried a couple varieties. One of each of our beers was on the flat side, but they were still drinkable so we didn’t complain. For dinner, I ordered the Cobb salad($ 10) and my wife order the Cajun Walleye sandwich with waffle fries($ 12). One note about the menu… it is way too big. Large menus are normally reserved for the Applebee’s of the world and scream poor quality. Par it down a bit and focus on those dishes you do best. The food was nothing fancy(in accordance with their motto I suppose), but bordering on pretty darn good. I would have liked some avocado on the Cobb, but it still remained very appetizing. My wife’s sandwich was very tasty and was definitely the better of the two dishes. Toward the end of our meal the place was really getting crowded, with people standing everywhere within a five foot radius of the bar. People were also getting annoyingly drunk(one group of women was perpetually screaming for everyone to take shots, shots, shots, shots… ahhh, shut the f@$k up!). Not Clive’s fault but I would suggest they ask such clientele to keep it down after thirty annoying minutes(especially with children around). Despite the crowd, we had a pretty enjoyable experience.

Anyone who has rated this bar/restaurant less than 4 stars obviously had no idea what a Roadhouse is. Swayze might not be needed as a bouncer, but the good is excellent and the beer flows. The décor is amongst the best for a suburb type bar and the waitstaff is always attentive(and in warmer weather adorned in tight tank tops). Great place to hang out and drink.
