The burgers are amazing! I love the possibilities and the special suggestions on the chalk board. And their fries and delish especially with the dragon sauce. I bring my out of town friends and family here all the time.

Hands down my favorite burger and fries in Chapel Hill. The fries here are amazing. Fresh cut, fried and salted perfectly, and served in huge portions! The regular fries and sweet potato fries are equally good, and I would go with a half n half of each. The fries are so good that you don’t really need sauce, but they do have some killer sauces here. My favorite is the chipotle mayo, which has a nice spice to it, and my other favorites are the honey mustard and dragon sauce. The burgers are also really good and are big. I’ve never left Buns not full and completely satisfied. The meat patties are had made, thick, and juicy, always cooked really well. My favorite burger to get is the fire roasted jalepeno burger, which has fire roasted jalepenos, avocado, bacon, and garlic mayo. I like to add pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and carmelized onions as well. The burger is spicy from the jalepenos, and the fresh, thick slices of avocado and bacon also add another dimension to the burger. It’s just overall a good burger. My other favorite is the Yolko Ono burger, which has chevre(goat cheese), bacon, runny egg, carmelized onion, grilled mushrooms, and a balsamic reduction. The burger is wonderful and unlike any burger you will eat. The balsamic and goat cheese are just a magnificent combo and the egg and bacon give it an extra breakfast flavor to it. I would highly recommend this burger. Buns is my favorite burger in Chapel Hill and is a must every time I visit UNC. While the combo meals are a little pricey depending on the burger you get($ 11 – 13), the portions are huge, and everything is delicious. You seriously have not had a burger and fries until you’ve been to Buns.

For a burger place, the actual meat patty is nothing to be too excited about. They’re more about the topping combinations than they are about the actual burger. That being said, they do have some delicious and interesting Signature Creations and fries. Combine the topping combinations of Buns with the patty of Five Guys and you’re golden.

Delicious burger joint in Chapel Hill! Boyfriend and I ordered the below: Goat Cheese burger — goat cheese, tomato with a basalmic reduction The Liz burger — beef patty, lettuce, tomoato, avocado, bacon, cheddar cheese and honey mustard pilled on a brioche bun After reading that, how could you not be salivating over those flavor combinations?! They were both amazing. We almost ordered a large fry to split, luckily the cashier asked how hungry we were. with that being said we split a regular. Those were delicious as well, I wish I got a dipping sauce but i just used my favorite condiment which is ketchup. Oh well, there is always next time!

Buns is an awesome and fast burger place if you are on Franklin Street. As I do with most of my Chapel Hill reviews, I’ll go ahead and tell you that nostalgia may play a role in my experiences and feelings towards this place. Buns is not a big place and a lot of people just get their orders to go. You order up at the counter and they give you a number that you can go sit down with. They bring your food right out to you, which is normally a quick process. The workers there are always friendly and willing to make suggestions. Just about everything is customizable. You pick your meat: Beef, Turkey, Veggie, or Grilled Chicken. You can choose between a white, wheat or brioche bun. They have a number of cheese, sauce, and various other toppings options. You can keep it as simple or get as crazy as you want. They also have some signature items if you’re feeling indecisive, and each day they have a burger special of the day. I normally go with the jalapeño pimento cheese burger or some variation of those ingredients. The burgers are juicy and the toppings are always fresh. Their portion sizes are huge and this includes the fries. I always go with the sweet potato fries. These are seriously some of the best around. I also always get wasabi mayo and chipotle mayo to dip the fries in. I know this sounds odd, but trust me, it’s delicious. They also have Cheerwine in their drink machines which is always an added bonus. I would highly recommend Buns if you are craving a burger on Franklin Street. It is a great place to head after a game. I can’t emphasize the sweet potato fries and dipping sauces enough. Buns is one of my favorites in Chapel Hill.

Decent hamburger joint. I enjoy the ability to create your own personal burger so that you can get exactly what you want. I’ve personally tried some of the«menu burgers,» such as the Jalapeño Cheese Burger and the Carolina Burger and were both good. The grilled chicken sandwich was delightful as well. If you’re looking for a place that serves a plethora of fries, Buns definitely provides. However, it is on the pricey end for just a burger combo(fries and drink are about $ 9 and higher if you add more patties). I would highly recommend that dragon sauce that they offer to dip those fries in! Also, you are free to choose between sweet potato fries and just normal potato fries, which is good to choose when you’re sick of just normal fries. Overall a good burger joint with a lot of versatility and ability to customize the burger to your like(turkey/chicken/veggie patty substitutes, gluten-free buns, etc.). If you’re on Franklin or on UNC campus and craving a good ol’ burger, I would recommend Buns!

Buns definitely has one of the best burgers on Franklin Street. Although it’s a bit pricey for a burger and fries, I’ve never spent over $ 10, and I’ve never been able to finish a meal at Buns without being full either, so in the end, I think it’s a worthy deal. The burgers are highly customizable with a variety of bread types, vegetables, and condiments to choose from, and overall, the taste is good. The delicious fries and the dipping sauce that comes with them are what makes Buns unique for me, though. A side of regular fries and Dragon Sauce(my favorite) is inevitable if I’m going to Buns. Overall, Buns is definitely worth a shot if you’re looking for somewhere to satisfy a burger craving; just be sure to get fries and dipping sauce if you want what I think is the full experience that Buns has to offer.

I’ve been here a few times but have never managed to write a review on it. Really, Buns is fine. That’s it. Is it the greatest burger I’ve ever had? No. Is it bad? No. It’s fine. The concept is fast casual, so you place your order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Last time I got a turkey burger with some various toppings. It was fine. The burger is pretty moist(which is hard to do with turkey) and the toppings were average. The buns are average as well. The dragon sauce, though, is delicious, especially with the fries. They’re very generous with portions on the fries as well(think Five Guys). Service is good, I didn’t have a problem. Buns is good – I’m rather indifferent towards it. Nothing shocked me good or bad about it. I’d go back if I was craving a burger or my friends wanted to go.

Good burgers, but expensive. I really loved the burger options, the sweet potato fries, and all the dipping sauce options. The dragon sauce and the wasabi sauce are especially good. The portion sizes are also good. My main complaint is that for the $ 10 to $ 15 you spend here, I could eat at Hops back in Greensboro with sit down service, the best burgers I’ve had, and an amazing selection of craft beers. Like most things in Chapel Hill, you appear to pay a premium over what similar meals would cost elsewhere in NC.

Best late night food for the weekends. Open until 3 am Thurs-Sat. So many options to customize your burger and lots of tasty, unique dipping sauces. A variety of cheeses like Brie and jalapeño pimento. Good location for heading there after the bar :)

How did I manage to go out in Chapel Hill for basically two nights a week for nearly two years and never come to this place until now? This should be one of your go to destinations on Franklin Street for all your drunken night out munchies. Buns is fairly large on the inside with a decent amount of seating space. Burgers range from $ 5-$ 8 without fries and drink. They have some pretty dank sweet potato fries here($ 3 for reg/$ 5 for large) though we did a few undercooked fries when we stopped in around 2AM the other night. I recommend you get it with some Dragon Sauce(a sweet mayo sirarcha sauce) — yum! I opted for a premade burger combo — the fire roasted jalapeño burger, which also comes with avocado and bacon. The burger was fantastic, though I think the bun could used a little bit more toasting. My roommate, who’s been coming here since his undergrad days has an amazing custom creation of turkey, swiss, chipotle mayo, caramelized onions(& other toppings) that was literally amazing. I know what I’m getting the next time I’m coming here. And oh boy, will there be a next time.

Buns is hands down the best burger in chapel hill. They have a wide variety of delicious ingredients like pimento cheese, chorizo patties, and Cajun seasoned andouille sausage. Go here.

This place is great. If you love food like I do, you must live near Franklin Street, it’s the food capital! The goat cheese burger was to die for, the fries are great, and they do have bottled beer. Their daily specials are good too. Depending on which day you go you can get a combo for $ 9 and the burger changes daily for that deal.

Delicious burgers and large amount of fries. The fries reminds me of five guys fries, but I’m still loyal to five guys’ delicious fries. The burger was juicy and they made it just the way I wanted it. They also offer sauces, but I think the regular ranch side is the best. Wanna go back for another burger and fries. By the way, the large fries are huge, we had three people and we were not able to finish them.

Buns is my favorite burger place on campus! The sauces are SOGOOD! My favorite is chipotle mayo — I can go through about 3 containers of sauce whenever I eat there. The burgers are massive and very filling. I ate here a lot before being vegetarian, and I was so delighted when I found out their menu contains a veggie burger which is absolutely delicious! It has lots of veggies including alfalfa sprouts, which may sound a little odd but they’re pretty good. I gave this place four stars because their burgers(well, not the veggie ones) tend to be oily, which I don’t like that much. The service here is always great and the servers are really nice! They’ll always greet you with a friendly smile.

The portion of fries included with the make your own burger was HUGE. Would definitely get the Dragon Sauce again, but would probably skip out on the Thai Sesame. Very solid burger and since I was able to make my own, it was delicious. I’d add that getting pesto mayo or wasabi mayo are great options!

«My anaconda don’t want none unless you got buns, hun» Sir Mix-A-Lot said these words in his prolific 1992 Grammy award winning single«Baby Got Back.» Of course he wasn’t talking about this hamburger joint. But let’s say, hypothetically speaking, that he been able to try one of these burgers back in 1991. Well that could have changed the course of history as we know it cuz baby’s got burgers! My personal recommendations: — Only order the«Tar Heel Triple» if you lifted hard earlier that day(it’s a lot of meat) — Dragon Sauce is definitely the best dipping sauce(honorable mention to the Wasabi mayo) — Salted caramel milkshake if you’re into that kind of thing

As far as campus burger joints go it’s hard to get much better than Buns. Open late? Check. Large portions? Yepp. Reasonably priced? I’d say so. Delicious? Definitely. A plethora of options and build your own burger? Icing on the cake. To start with they have a lot of great burger choices, some of my favorites being the chorizo burger and Carolina burger topped with chili. Don’t feel like one of Buns’ options though? You can design your own burger with between 1 – 3 patties, choose your cheese, toppings and sauces and enjoy. They have some creative condiments such as wasabi mayo, curry mustard and dragon sauce– similar to «Yum yum» sauce in many hibachi restaurants. The burgers are consistently good as are the fries, which come in huge portions. The regular size is plenty to share or take home for later unless you’re starving, and I’d advise adding chili and cheese for $ 1.50– totally worth it. The service is usually friendly as well, and they’ve even offered to cut the burgers in half when I’m sharing with my girlfriend which was a nice surprise. The only downside is that they can take a little bit of time compared to fast food burgers since they are made to order, but for the better quality this is just nitpicking.

Being vegetarian, I’m not a huge burger fan(obviously) but came here to try the veggie burger with a few meat-loving friends. I must say, the veggie burger was absolutely DELICIOUS! I recommend it even for people who can eat meat. The veggie patty itself is vegan and has such a wide variety of vegetables. It’s topped with such fresh ingredients — alfalfa sprouts, avocado, lettuce, tomato, cucumbers — all sandwiched by fluffy buns made in house. The sauce could have been a little more flavorful, but it didn’t detract from the burger overall. The portions are extremely generous as well, making the visit here very affordable and satisfying. I’ve heard the dipping sauces are really good. The barbecue sauce is tangy and a perfect topping for the fries here. If you want even more bang for your buck, ask for your fries to go, because the to go box is huge and gives you more than the dine-in portion. Cute décor inside and a convenient location off of Franklin Street, so it’s definitely worth the stop by!

Ahh que delícia!!! Encontrar um lugar que o hambúrguer é tão suculento e molhadinho que nem precisa de ketchup ou mostarda é realmente uma vitória. A localização então, é incrível!
