Although the food is pretty good, the thing that sets me off is the fact that all the food is pretty overpriced. I come in here about once a week or so and I feel like lately every time I come in, the servers are so slow and so inattentive. I see them hanging in the kitchen, or with the hostess and it’s very annoying when you are waiting to order or want a refill. I always come back for great food but service is often really bad.

I’ve eaten here a couple of times and ordered carry out once. The food is okay. Standard breakfast fare, but it’s over-priced. The service is also okay, as is the atmosphere. I don’t mind average experiences, I’m just not going to pay extra because the average experience is in a nice complex in Chapel Hill. It would be nice if restaurants in this area could recognize their value and charge accordingly. It would really make it more affordable to eat out here.

Great food and good environment! The food here was great! As a New Yorker it is extremely difficult to find good good outside of NY, well this place has it all! Great food, good atmosphere, friendly people and great coffee! I like a strong bold coffee and they actually offer or on the menu! Prices were decent, but the portions are big too!

We’ve been back to the Egg and I several more times since my last review, and I must say it is now in our frequent brunch rotation! Our little girl is now 2 years old, and we got her a chocolate chip pancake, which she devoured. The wait staff is always so attentive and upbeat, and I have to give a personal thank you and kudos to Amanda, who is fluent in ASL. Our little girl has been learning sign language in school and Amanda is always so happy to talk and sign with her! The crab cake Benedict has easily become my go-to menu choice, and I must say, they have absolutely improved their potatoes, as they have been perfect every time! We’re always greeted with a smile, and I highly recommend this place for a great meal!

This was a really great breakfast place and they have lots of delicious options. I’m glad they opened one in Chapel Hill!

Yum. Great breakfast place! Get the cordon blue skillet with scrambled eggs… So good and the eggs were cooked perfect. Service was good, prices are good, décor is nothing much… But it’s good, fast and easy.

The hazelnut coffee was horrific. I found the scrambled eggs runny and the sausage tasted like something from my college cafeteria. I really wouldn’t recommend this restaurant. We stopped by, since our hotel was in walking distance. The hostess was really nice, but the service was also sub-par. We had to flag the server down 5 or 6 times to get everything from a glass of water to splenda to every little thing needed for our breakfast.

My review may not be a complete judgment since I got my plates to go but I’m basing this based off the food and overall experience. Food is slightly overpriced for what it is. Secondly, service is not great. It is a busy place so I can understand that somewhat. I had the egg white omelet with chicken sausage. I actually didn’t like how they cut the chicken sausage in such small pieces. Otherwise, the omelet was decent. The home fries are pretty good, but the English muffin is nothing special. Iced coffee is decent as well. Overall, 2.5−3 stars. It does the job but doesn’t «eggcel» at any particulars.

Awesome service, awesome food. We were seated immediately upon arriving, we ordered, and within 10 minutes are good was at the table. The scrambled eggs were some of the best eggs I’ve ever had. The French toast was soft and covered well with the cinnamon & egg dip. They also give you small pitcher of the drink you ordered. Amazing first experience. Will definitely be back!

Very nice service but decidedly average food. And price is a little high for quality of what you get. Décor is uninspired. Don’t think I’ll go back.

Stopped for a much needed breakfast after a morning workout and pass right by this so thought«why not? How can you screw up breakfast?» Thought about a 3 and then went 2 based on value. Breakfast is not that hard and if it’s all you do should be near perfect nearly every time. Initial service was slow and sat for a bit. Ordered corned beef hash and eggs over easy. Hash was pretty good but eggs overcooked. One hard, one medium — no yolk for my hash! Crime!!! Waited for waitress to swing back around and did not happen and just ate it as is. Go to Ye Old Waffle shop or Breadman’s. Way better value. Egg and I is not worth the premium price — it’s a glorified Denny’s at a 50% premium. Will not be coming back.

The Egg and I is a great place to go to for breakfast or lunch with the family. My daughter got cinnamon roll French toast(limited-edition) which was delicious with a lot of icing! I was trying to be health-conscious, so I got steel cut oatmeal with fresh fruit, and what do I say about that? Filling… My husband got strawberry banana pancakes which he liked but didn’t love as it was too«dry» for him. My son got chocolate chip pancakes, which he devoured in no time. The ambience is fun, lively and filled with college students. Definitely give it a try!

This place is great. I got the apple cinnamon pancake which was HUGE! It was very flavor. It comes with eggs and bacon or sausage. Way too much food for me but very good nonetheless. The service was speedy and very pleasant. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Free wifi. Overall a great experience.

Didn’t know it was a chain until I looked up the company online while eating. Not always a bad thing but it feels like a chain inside. The coffee is alright but nothing special. Eggs Benedict was underwhelming. In all honesty it is one step above Denny’s. I gave three stars because maybe that appeals to you, but in my experience with breakfast restaurants this would fall dead last along with Waffle House and Denny’s. Certainly not un-eatable, but nothing to look forward to.

It’s not that bad and not that good. The sweet tea is incredibly too sweet. The sausage gravy remains playfully bland. There are much better places that you can go to on the same budget.

Driven by this place a lot so decided to finally give it a chance. It was good but nothing special. Better then your Denny’s but nothing to write home about food wise. The staff was very friendly and nice. That’s probably the biggest plus. I thought my sons chocolate chip pancake came out very cute. I’ll submit the picture. Will give it another try sometime.

We have been to The Egg & I a few times over now, and it has had it’s ups and downs with a few things, but I have to hand it to them. They have one of the best pancakes I have ever had. The«Whole Wheat Pancake Flapper» is incredible. It is a huge pancake, served with a side of eggs and your choice of meat if you would like it. Every time I have tried it, I have really enjoyed it. So, for that fact, I am updating my review one more time, and adding on a star for The Egg & I. I have been to another competitor’s restaurant recently, and The Egg & I simply wins this round for best pancake in my mind. If you have some time for breakfast or brunch, do yourself a favor and head on over to The Egg & I and try it. You will not be disappointed.

* The place has«egg» in the name * The egg dishes are all about $ 10 each * 2 out of 4 of the plates at our table didn’t have the eggs cooked right

While this place is relatively new, don’t let the small number of reviews fool you – this place is great! My boyfriend and I passed in on our way into town and thought it looked cute and gave it a shot. The service was great and the food was excellent. Fresh ingredients and options for everyone!

We have tried the«Egg & I» twice in the past several weeks. They have not been open long and we miss having a breakfast place close, and wanted to give them a fair chance. We went on a Sunday am, and a weekday am. The décor was nice and the staff very friendly. The silverware I had was dirty with presumably syrup(the napkin stuck to it) Additionally, the problem was on both occasions our meals were not hot when they arrived at the table. The food is expensive for breakfast, especially cold or barely warm eggs/pancakes and french toast. When the softened butter on the french toast will not melt, its a problem. Too bad, great location

We’ve been here twice so far, and I can say we’ve enjoyed the experience both times. The first time we were here there was hardly a wait; the second time was about 30 minutes(though in their defense, it was Sunday brunch rush hour). Ample seating as well as a meeting/private room for large parties/business lunches etc. Simple, clean décor and welcoming, friendly feel. This restaurant newly opened recently, and we’d been dying to find a good brunch spot close to home. I enjoy their varied menu that can fit the bill for most individuals and health aficionados as well. I was craving an eggs benedict on this most recent trip and I was not disappointed. Kind and attentive wait staff. Twice during our most recent meal, a manager(I assume) checked in on us to see how we were enjoying our meal. Our little 14-month old had also been babbling pretty loudly(despite our efforts to keep her voice down), and honestly I’m not sure if one of his ‘check-ins’ was a subdued, passive way to request us to try and manage our child’s volume level better. On our first trip, I had a hash, which was delicious, if not just slightly over-salted. My husband had an omellette(though I don’t recall which one) that he enjoyed very much. The waiter was very attentive and eventually brought out larger sodas for my husband(their tiny carafe just weren’t cutting it, unfortunately). During our second visit, I was recommended by our server to try the crab cake eggs benedict, which was delicious. Good flavor and texture, with a good crisp as well. My husband had a ‘Santa Fe Scramble,’ and had no complaints. The potatoes that came with our food were good but they seemed a bit charred(maybe left heating for too long?) Good strawberry lemonade, but a bit tart. Interesting to see that you settle your bill at the front as you’re leaving, but I have no real complaints. If it frees up a table sooner to get the next customer in, more power to them :)

After a long night shift at work, the BF and I stopped by for some breakfast. The décor was nice and the staff were friendly but the food left me somewhat unsatisfied. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing(Vera Cruz Omelet) but I wasn’t really feeling it. It is probably my fault that I ordered a «healthy option» because the food just seemed bland to me. A lot of their dishes come w/English muffins, which I am not a fan of either. On the other hand, my BF had the Mexican omelet and he enjoyed his. I might return at some point and try a different dish, hopefully w/better luck. Also, I paid $ 3 for a teeny glass of OJ that I downed in 2 seconds.

3.5 stars! Not sure why this place is only at 2.5 stars? Chicken apple sausage omelette with no fruit, add«viva la France» french toast and bacon. My lady had a gigantic wheat rasberry granola pancake. The omelette was good but the, OMG this is good, wasn’t there for any of the food. That does not mean the food wasn’t good, so make sure you come by and enjoy this place. The bacon was crispy and english muffin buttery. My fatness also lube’d up the french toast with syrup and gorged myself with three large, but not too thick(not like Texas French Toast) pieces of sourdough bread. It was delicious and the best thing my GF and I ate. She also had the granola pancake which came with raspberry yogurt instead of syrup. She loved it, I didn’t. Sky was our waitress and we were also visited by Tom, one of the owners. Had a great time and am impressed with the efficiency(20 min food wait on a packed Sun Morning and no wait to sit) of the food and customer service. Location is new and recommend it for all… kid friendly and also gives military discounts!!!
