This is, hands down, one of the best authentic local places to grab a quick bite and experience at! The owner, a lovely French man, is extremely patient and loves to talk to you about his food. Even when the place is busy, as it often is, he’ll crack a joke and a smile. Also, you won’t end up waiting more than 15 minutes for your food if it’s busy! I have trouble going out of the box menu-wise, because I love what I get: a croissantwich with prosciutto, mozzarella, tomato, and basil pesto. If it’s early morning and I’m hungry, I’ll throw an egg on there! To quench my hunger immediately I’ll get one or two croissants while waiting for my food — the apple cinnamon and fresh berry croissants are the best! I highly suggest checking this place out. There isn’t a lot of room to sit, so it’s a good stop-in for a quick bite kind of place, or grab a croissant to go!

Came here a few months back, with a toddler. Ordered a Smoked salmon on a baguette, can’t remember what else came on the sandwich, but the bread tasted fresh, and the fruit that came a long with it, i appreciated for my little guest. It was fresh, not sad looking(you know, those defrosted pieces of fruit you get elsewhere). Ordered pastries to go, and everything was tasty.

Had a breakfast sandwich and was underwhelmed. 4 stars based on the complete experience. Staff is very welcoming and the place is spotless. The kitchen is wide open so you can see for yourself. Unlike most other reviewers, I had an egg sandwich on baguette, not a pastry. I ordered the egg with bacon, potato and cheddar and that’s exactly what I got. Nothing more. Not even a sprig of parsley. I don’t think there was even a bit of seasoning. For the $ 8 I spent I expected more. The pricing is more in line with what I would expect to pay in downtown Charleston, not a row store on James island. Overall I give it 4 stars. I think it would be a nice place to take a client or my wife. Not really suited as a breakfast spot for the working man.

Wow. What a find on James island. Authentic French style baguette and croissants. Great for breakfast or lunch. French press coffee. Must try

If I had stopped at the berry pastry this would have been a 3 star review. I found it small for the price and a bit underwhelming. Lucky for me I also went for the almond chocolate version. It was much better. Still I probably won’t be wishing for another of either one when I think back on this trip. I think if they had offered to warm them it could have improved the taste considerably. There were just too many other spots knocking it out of the park for this one to stand out.

A little taste of Paris on James Island! I had a delicious iced coffee with an egg, potato, onion and bacon omelette on a toasted, buttery brioche bun. My girlfriend was obsessed with the warm, light, buttery and flaky croissant. You can see how the baker prepares everything on the premises. Great way to start the day before sightseeing around Charleston!

My 5 stars are reserved for those places that have their craft down to a simple, magical near perfection that is hard to beat. Baguette Magic, welcome to the 5 star crew. Ive had this place bookmarked for I dont even know how long. I dont care what anyone says, JI is far and driving down Folly seems like a never-ending stop and go drive, so I just hardly make it out to that side of town. After I left the gym today, I convinced myself that I was not that far so why not give it a try? If your gonna eat a croissant, I imagine the best time is going to be after the gym… Its actually not that far down Folly which was a relief. I park, walk in, and am knocked out by the beautiful smells. Its small, quaint, shoulder to shoulder, and friendly, like a bakery should be. The croissants, the breads, the coffee. I mean, this is seriously my personal flaky delicious heaven. I didnt know what I wanted. Which was a problem, because in those situations, I usually walk out with one or too many of everything. It was pretty busy with all of the few tables filled and the line 5⁄6 people deep, so I had a few minutes to wait and used it to observe. The 3 guys behind the counter were steady at work, but none of them seemed rushed or flustered even with so much going on. What was even nicer was that the customers seemed to be on the same page as they were. Everyone was in their own – talking, laughing, enjoying their baked goods. The coffee and espresso drinks were all made to order, which means it took a little time for orders to get completed, but no one seemed in a rush – what a cool place. I get to the counter, and the gentleman behind the counter has a delicious French accent. He was so pleasant, making my wait even more worth it. He was doing several things at once at his own steady pace: talking to me, making coffee for another customer, refilling the bakery cabinet. These guys are sanely efficient. I ordered 2 almond/choc, 2 butter, and a baguette. He asks how I prefer the baguette, soft, or crispier. I mean, yes. Yes to asking me that! I also ordered some coffee which was very good. After putting my goods in a box, I pay, he smiles, thanks me, and I head out. What a great place. The vibe in here is so friendly, so chill. The kind of place I want to go back to often and learn everyones name who works there. I want them all to be my friend. The smells, the coffee… James Island no longer feels too far away.

Everything here is so good! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but my personal favorite is the mixed berry. Croissants are fresh and coffee is delicious!

What an incredible spot! We walked in via the back door and took a seat at the small bar. When we arrived it was busy, but within 10 minutes there was a line out the door. We were waited on promptly and had great seats to watch the magic happen in the kitchen. The coffee and pain au chocolate aux amande we started with were fantastic! I ordered the baquette breakfast sandwich with bleu cheese, bacon and arugula. It was divine and just the right amount. This place was magic from start to finish! I lived in France for several years and can say their pastries and breads are legit! Expect lines and a wait, but it’s well worth it.

Really simple, really french. With a name like that, the bread has to be good, and it is. I usually go with the croissant sandwich. Always fast and right on point with the price. Its right on folly rd on james island so it is a great place to swing in a grab a bite on the way to or on the way home from the beach. It is small though so get it to go.

Delicious pastries and made-to-order omelettes and sandwiches. Coffee is always fresh and tasty. They often run out of the high demand items like chocolate croissants, so get there before the hung over crowd stumbles in! There is limited seating, so it doesn’t have a loungey coffeeshop vibe, but on the flip side, staff has never given me the stank eye for lingering over breakfast and $ 1 coffee refills.

I can’t say I really got the whole French bakery or magic. It’s not a eye catching place so curb appeal does not jump out at ya. I walked in the place and was confused, normally I would assume a French bakery would have shelfs of dif types of Croissants,Éclairs, Macarons and Mille-fueille. There is just a small display box with Croissants with dif toppings on them. Then below that a croissant type mini loaf of bread. I will say the Croissants all tasted the same just with dif toppings. Overall it’s getting a 3 star from me just do lack of selection and similar items. Can’t say I would make a special trip back if I was to drive by. The food was good but not great

I love making breakfast in the morning so I went to pickup some croissants to make some egg sandwiches and I was tempted! I ended up walking out with 5 plain croissants and a chocolate one, and a berry one and a peach one… It was all really amazing. Everything is fresh daily and they have the best flaky crusts. Keep up the good work guys!

Worth breaking your diet! What ever you do make sure and order an almond chocolate Croissant, it is so delicious and decadent. I ordered the smoked salmon with Dill cream on a croissant, it was very rich almost too rich, I thought the extra olive oil or whatever they drizzled was a little extra and not necessary. The salmon to me was not smoked enough it was a little less smokey and salty than what I am used to with smoked salmon but it was still good. We also ordered the tuna layered salad on a soft baguette and although dry at first it got better and better with time. Definitely worth a try.

Holy Crap, this place is my new James Island Favorite!!! What I Iove: Butter Croissants, Almond Croissants, any type of Egg Sandwich on a Croissant, baquettes, and the coffee. As soon as you walk in, picture yourself in a pastry shop back in France(a small quaint comfy little bakery that’s stuffed full of pastries and good smells). This is where this place took me. The owner the French man w/the distinct accent, knows exactly what he’s doing when it comes to making pastries and breads. I highly advise you to try a croissant whether it’s with a breakfast sandwich or whether it’s the almond croissant(obviously my favorite) with coffee. They will both be delicious. I also suggest you get a cup of the delicious Guatemalan french press coffee. Wow, flavorful, powerful, and delicious. This place is very small with only a couple of tables and about 5 bar stools(funny there is no alcohol here). They also have a couple tables outside but you have to go to the back of this place for the patio. So plan accordingly, it is not a big enough space for big groups. You can always call in to-go. I heard the owner take more than a couple take-out orders. Lastly don’t expect service to be fantastic. You’re in France remember. :) I hope you find this place as lovely as I do. Cheers & Enjoy!

Just got a chocolate croissant and a tomato pie to split with my son. Ahhh mazing. Last time I was here I tried the recovery baguette, delish but seriously huge and I couldn’t finish it. Kinda wish I had ordered it without the catchup though. My friend ordered the French toast and that was seriously mouth watering with the beautiful berries. Wish this was closer to my house but then I would be broke.

Yes Yes… Oui Oui… Tres bien Tres bien!(I used to take french… 12 years ago)… GREAT! It’s all about quality here: the ingredients, customer service, etc… all very high quality! The food is delicious: GREAT and a little out-of-the-ordinary for James Island/Charleston. It is a pretty small space that is brightly lit, but there is almost always a place to sit. The staff is helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and definitely engaged in the overall process. They really care about what you want, your expectations and what they suggest and ultimately prepare for you. Beautiful, hand-crafted, ultra flaky croissants! Yummm! Fresh bake baguette’s and a beautiful bevy of pastries… mmmmm!!! Got a GREAT egg sandwich on a baguette which really hit the spot on a Sunday morning after a couple cocktails the night before. The coffee is delicious — rich, bold, but somehow delicate. Also split a chocolate croissant, which was to DIEFOR! YUMMMM!!! I will go here again and again and recommend it to everyone I know for a pastry, croissant or egg sandwich and coffee. Although it’s right on Folly Road, in a great location… I still feel like it’s a hidden gem. I don’t hear many people talk about it, but they should be!

If you’ve ever been to France than you know what a well made, fresh baguette tastes like. This place is like a little slice of France just sitting on James Island. For $ 2.99 you get your choice of crusty or soft and I’ll bet you can’t make it to your car before sniffing the bag 4 times… it smells that good. They offer a nice selections of pastries and breakfast sandwiches; my boyfriend will totally vouch for the almond and berry croissant. It’s not very big inside but there are a couple of tables where you can hang out and sip a coffee while nommin’ on some of the best bread in Charleston.

Come in before 10 and get $ 2 off the croissant. This place is pretty good. The ambience is very casual and bright. The staff was friendly. The food is delicious. Very delicious. I had the Turkey brie on brioche and it was good. So good that I decided to get lunch for my team so they could experience it as well. Now it is a little pricy for a breakfast place but worth every penny.
