Had breakfast for the second time at The Bluerose Café and left feeling ripped off. The first time I was there on a Saturday morning by myself and I enjoyed my $ 8.95 omelette. Went back on a Sunday morning with my wife and the bill ended up quite a bit larger than I anticipated. I asked the cashier about it and she said they call it «brunch» on Sundays so they charge more. I guess I should have been suspicious when the Sunday menu had no prices. Anyway, the price for my crab omelette went from $ 8.95 to $ 12.50. My wife’s Irish Man breakfast, which is $ 6.95 Mon thru Sat, cost $ 12.50. They then charged us $.50 each for the cheese in the grits. My wife had coffee. I had water. The food was was OK, but nothing exceptional. After doing a little research, I think they are supposed to include a small basket of breads with«brunch,» but we didn’t receive any. The total cost, before tax and tip, was over $ 26. With tax and tip, over $ 33. That is more than $ 10 over the weekday cost. Caveat emptor!

Outstanding my daughter and I expressly chose this place because it was close to her apartment here in Charleston and it was the best decision we could have made for a scrumptious brunch. I had the caramelized onion, mushroom, cheddar frittata with grits and she had an 8-oz ribeye, perfectly marbled/cooked. Our waitress was a real doll, who never stopped moving, The whole time… it was like having a floorshow with our meal. If you want great food, great service, and a bright, eclectic place for Sunday brunch, do yourself a favor and come up to the Blue Rose Café

Gotta update my review since we’re now«regulars» at Bluerose. That’s right, once you go a few times, the staff gets to know you and welcomes you each time! As far as food quality, service, and price goes… 5 stars all around. I’ve tried a lot of menu items and haven’t had anything I just didn’t like. The crab cake sandwich is my favorite thing on the menu, and the best crab cake sandwich I’ve had in Charleston. It comes on a big olé bun from Saffron and and the bread holds up well to the crab cake and sauce. The crab cake is very little filler. We went back to Bluerose today for breakfast, our first time having breakfast there because we usually go out for lunch or dinner. The breakfast was the BEST! I had the crab omelet and they didn’t skimp on meat. The portions are large and you’ll leave full. Everything I saw coming out of the kitchen for breakfast looked delicious, and I can’t wait to try the pancakes, French toast, and maybe some more of the omelets. If you haven’t tried Bluerose Café, you’re missing out and need to get there soon!

now THIS is a good old, down home, make you feel good the minute you walk in breakfast place! I had been wanting to try Blue Rose ever since Mike M. and Jackie M. have mentioned it to us. Finally, one Saturday, I decided today is the day. We cut across the peninsula and headed on over there. I don’t recall our servers name, but he was a super nice guy and very attentive in service. He even made great suggestions on what eat. In the end, Laura settled on the ham, cheese and tomato omelet. I just had bacon and eggs with a side of both the grits and home fries. The grits were perfect with out adding anything to them. The home fries just ok, so I didn’t end up eating all of them. Eggs were cooked perfect and so was Laura’s omelet. The most impressive thing here tome is the number of bread choices they give you. You have your choice between either Toast: white, wheat, rye, raisin bread. Or, an Irish Scone. wow! the choices. If your in West Ashley, and looking for a good breakfast with super nice people. Go to Blue Rose.

#fivestarfriday, #yelp, #yelp843, #yelpchs This is my five star Friday for the Bluerose Café. My wife and I have been going here for years and haven’t had a bad experience yet! that is hard to say for some restaurants but I really enjoy this venue! Denis Odoherty is the owner, an Irishman, and he knows what folks like. He does add a bit of the old country to his menu, and it shows! This place has been open for over 11 years and has been a staple of the west ashley area. There aren’t to many small diner/cafes in the area and this is as homey as it gets! We just got back from new years day breakfast and it was super crowded but we were waited on and recognize right away. Got to see other regulars and had a nice time talking to them. Their fish and chips are amazing and my wife raves about their burgers! The desert lineup is top of the line. Chocolate Guinness cake, amazing! My wife and I have enjoy many holiday meals here. Their valentines night special is wonderful! So if you’re looking for a place to take your family of just to go by yourself, head on over here! In case you thought I forgot, the restrooms are super clean and their coleslaw is some of the best in Charleston!

Nice and quiet on this Saturday night. We took our 6yo and they were happy to make her a grilled cheese since she couldn’t find anything without meat she wanted on the menu. The fried oysters were divine!

Great food and family-owned customer service. Totally recommend corned beef hash with over easy eggs and scone. People from all walks of life come in. Business and neighborhood peeps, out of towners — plus — it’s quite a find.

The final day of our vacation and the pressure was on me to pick our breakfast spot. I debated several and finally settled on Blue Rose. Thank goodness I did! I don’t think there’s a better breakfast to be had in Charleston. I had the blueberry pancakes with homemade whipped cream and a side of rashers. My husband had an omelet and potatoes. Hands down the best blue berry pancakes I’ve ever had. Real berries!!! But not just raw hot ones. Somehow these are fresh but still cooked, why can’t every other restaurant figure that out? Super friendly staff who go way out of their way to make everything just right for you is the cherry on top! A+++++ you guys rock!!!

I had crab cake Benedict with grits. Crab cake was delicious and grit were prepared very well. The grits were not runny or dry. Great atmosphere, very good customer service and they give you an array of Danishes and scones to get you started. My husband had an Irish breakfast with black and white pudding. Well done! Great place to eat.

Great find on the way out of Charleston. A little out of the way, but worth the detour. I tried the full Irish breakfast and it was great, only they were out of Irish sausage so they subbed regular breakfast sausage, and while it was good, I was a little disappointed. My wife had the spinach omelette(which was ginormous BTW) and she loved it. I’ll be tempted to go back on our next trip, they have great service and the Bluerose is definitely a unique restaurant.

I’ve only been here for breakfast. They always deliver when it comes to taste. IMO they have the best corned beef hash — try that with 2 eggs over easy and you’ll be set. It’s very casual, and can be tight if you go on the weekends, but if your looking for a quick bite, dinner style food and good service you can’t go wrong. Ohh … A quick tip use a credit card — They always seem to struggle breaking large bills and giving change.

My family and I went here because we would always pass it by going to and from downtown Charleston SC. This place is Awesome! They have a Great Menu selection. The Customer service is Just Enough and not bothersome. The food is always hot and delicious! They are not gonna rob your wallet. Just a great atmosphere for you rather it’s breakfast, or brunch. I haven’t attended for dinner but if it is anything like their breakfast and lunch… oh my! 1 last thing… although it has an Irish feel to it, they did not forget where they are. They hold true to the Charleston SC taste and feel of great food and great hospitality. Thank You BlueRose!

No where else in Charleston can you get a traditional full Irish breakfast like at Bluerose. My parents like to stop here when they come into town, because we always have great service and delicious food. Try: full irish breakfast, corned beef hash, buttermilk pie, scones, baked brie, irish potato cakes If you get the chance to talk to the owner, Denis, definitely do. He’s very personable and makes you feel like you’re eating in his home as a guest.

Definitely my favorite brunch place around here. I’m not really a BRUNCH type of guy — I don’t like breakfast foods that much — but this place really is above average. They make a great omelette! Service is great and it isn’t so unbelievable busy that you have to wait for 5 hours(but it is busy on the weekends). I love their irish scone muffin thing or whatever it’s called!

Mmm. not feeling the Sunday Brunch menu. This Sunday was my first visit to Bluerose — a small, mostly inexpensive, causal diner. Upon entering, the fella behind the counter was pleasant and the waitress working what look like all of the tables, was very friendly and social with everyone. Cant recall her name, but she was a delight. The Sunday Brunch menu includes a host of typical southern breakfast things, a cup of coffee or tea, and a variety of breads, all for $ 12.50. My gf ordered the shrimp and grits, which was good! I never order shrimp and grits out because the recipe is always unnecessarily overcomplicated, taking away from the old school, simple and delicious recipe that I grew up on. A nicely seasoned brown gravy, sautéed onions, thick creamy grits, and of course an abundance of shrimp. This recipe was just that, so that is a win. I ordered the western omelet, which I didnt like. It was overly stuffed with mince sized peppers and tomatoes along with some cheddar; and totally flavorless. The potatoes that came with it also lacked flavor and were kind of dry. The breads that came with the meal, a couple of blueberry muffins, some hard biscuit like thing which I think was a scone(?), and some other bread – anyway they were all just not a good addition to the meal. Store bought, hard, stale… just a few words to describe the breads that we were given. Im guessing because we came in at the tail end of the day, we got what was left for the day perhaps? Our waitress did say upon putting the plate of breads down that this is «what we have left». Im probably going to give this place another go because I like diners and the staff was warm and inviting, but I’ll skip the Sunday brunch and try lunch or dinner.

The food is really good. The servers also feel real, they’re not rude but kind of straight up. I like it. The food is very Irish and works well. I love that it’s very gay friendly. It’s nice to find a place in a sea of churches and republicans. But seriously here the focus is the food. If you’ve never been to Ireland come here and tell everyone you’ve been. Get the Irish country breakfast. It’s delicious with Irish bacon and sausage. 3 slaps for food(gripped and fried) 1 slap for the gay atmosphere.

Food was ok, nothing to jump off a bridge for on a cold day. Hope you hydrated prior to coming here, this place should be called Desert Rose since water is non existent. the waiter never brought or offered water.

Have visited before for Sunday brunch, but thought you had to get their $ 12.00 special. Well, I’ve been educated, you don’t. Good Irish food. Breakfast is good, and fresh. People are very nice. Try it, you’ll like it. Frank G

Bluerose Café is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Charleston. I just love a good traditional Irish Breakfast, and Bluerose comes as close as it gets here in Charleston. Their traditional Irish Breakfast is so good with 2 eggs any way you want them, breakfast potatoes, rashers, bangers, black & white pudding, and grilled tomato; the only things missing are Heinz baked beans and sauteed mushrooms & onions. I’ve also tried a few of their other breakfast selections which also very good as well. And I’ve also dropped by for lunch a couple of times too and they have a pretty good selection sandwiches and some heavier dishes that I’ve got to try sometime. We did do dinner here on St. Patrick’s Day and it was an awesome party to the usual get drunk, drink green beer, get lost in the crowd type of parties usually associated with St. Pat’s. On this night they had live Irish music with a sit-down dinner where the customer could pick between several dishes such as Corned Beef & Cabbage, Sheppard’s Pie, Seafood Stew, and Stuffed Chicken to name a few; all of which were served with an appetizer, dessert, and a cold beer(or tea, soda, coffee, etc). In addition to great food, the Bluerose has a great staff working here. They have always done an excellent job at taking care of there and making us feel at home. Everytime we’ve visited the Bluerose they have been packed out, so I know I’m not the only one that really likes this place. My advice is if you are in the mood for breakfast you will want t get here early and avoid waiting on a table.
