The regular jerk was good… the teriyaki was coated in a gelatn of goo. Gross. Ive never thrown away jerky before… this was my first time.

Ok so maybe the selection is interesting(I’ve never tried the exotic meats), and maybe if you’ve never had other quality jerky than this over-priced, over-dried, and over-seasoned rendition of it impresses you. But for anyone who has bought better quality jerky before, or even had some Krave from your local grocer, knows that this shoe leather falls woefully short of greatness, or even above-average-ness. Don’t waste your time here folks. Or if you do, at least do yourself the favor of trying a sample before spending your hard-earned money.

My boyfriend and I went to Charleston back in October and got some of this jerky but I wanted to wait until I actually had all the jerky we bought before putting a review. With that said, I finally ate the last of the jerky and it was two thumbs up. The jerky is sealed in an airtight pack and they have a very long shelf life which is great. We got the combo pack of wild boar, kangaroo and whiskey rabbit. All were delicious. I think my favorite was the wild boar as that was the juiciest of the bunch. Regardless, all were juicy in their own way. Dehydrated meat is naturally dry but the oils from the fat and the seasoning kept it moist at the same time. A full punch of flavor and the jerky was nice and chewy. The meat was moist and dry at the same time! Dry like the way jerky should be and fortunately not rockhard dry like other jerkys I have had. Definitely a great try/souvenir to bring back home if visiting when you are in the City Market area!

With so many types of jerky available, I wasn’t sure what to buy to satisfy my craving. I settled on the sample pack of beef for $ 18, and the black pepper jerky was awesome. The location is real easy to get to, and the products are easy to browse once you’re inside. I heard a rumor of free samples, but I came late or too early, so I just missed those. Once inside, ask about the«hillbilly quarter» … had a few guys cracking up once they saw it. Jerky comes from various meat sources, so if you’re not in a beef mood, you can try the salmon, kangaroo, or other dehydrated meat product. Prices are up there a bit, but if you want cheap jerky, go to the gas station and get the low quality stuff. You’ll get what you pay for here.
