I saw charleston, sc. comment and had to write a review. I have been to planet fitness, pivotal, very small business like big work downtown, golds gym, etc., and from my experience, I can say that esac on savannah hwy is a good gym. The staff there is better than any staff, at any gym, and I enjoy being in the place. I am, also, a serious person when it comes to working out and I don’t see anything that, that person said, to be true about this gym. The staff has always been able to answer my questions, always greets me and others with a smile, and the equipment is good. It might not be the most up to date, but it works good and it is clean. The gym is well taken care of and they maintain a clean environment. This gym, out of many others, is a more quiet, focused area. I would DEFINITELY recommend this gym to people. Especially the ones who are serious.

ESAC has so many locations which I used when traveling around Charleston. Each one has something different and unique. Working in the fitness industry before I know how difficult it is to hire good people. My overall experience with the machines and equipment were basically what I needed and a good fit for general fitness. I did however have a bad experience with one customer service manager. After some time I was introduced to a new customer service manager named Amanda. She was one of the most professional employees I’ve met. When working in the fitness industry this is very important and I can say she completely changed my mind about my thoughts on ESAC.

It’s been 3 years since the last review of this gym and that lady wasn’t too stoked about the West Ash ESAC! So, like a big brother finding his little bro being bullied, I had to update this one with some fresh info for the gym that I frequent! First, let me say that what Susan said in the 1st review of this gym was largely accurate ATTHATTIME. The West Ash ESACUSED to be dingy, mostly dudes, dilapidated, and staffed by seemingly aloof personal trainers more interested in building a client base than tending to the gym. But, times have changed. ESAC as a corporation was bought out by another company and is under new management. With the buyout came big changes for our ESAC! First, the staff is all new. They got rid of the meatheads and now everyone there seems really friendly, attentive, and fastidious in keeping the gym clean and the members happy! I’m greeted with a smile and a conversation each day now instead of a head nod or empty desk. Very happy to see that! In addition, the new owners have put considerable time, effort, and money into the old dungeon renovating it into a really nice fitness club! Gone are the ancient boxy old TVs, presumably to soon be replaced by flat-screens. All the walls were given a fresh coat of paint. All new floors went in the gym, fitness rooms, and locker rooms. New equipment has replaced the creaking and fraying old machines and there’s now a clean smell in the air instead of the old vinegar-onion combo that used to hang around. The staff is doing a MUCH better job keeping everything clean and orderly. Basically, this old gym has had some serious work done and she’s looking to mingle! Dudes looking to gain some size: this gym isn’t one of those only sporting cables and barre weights for the ladies(which just doesn’t cut it!). 1⁄3 of the gym is dedicated to free weights, dumbbells, racks, and sleds. You can get jacked here for sure! Ladies: don’t fear! This is not a meathead Mecca where guys with 33″ necks will grunt and meander around lifting heavy things arbitrarily like sedated gorillas! Another 1⁄3 of the gym is dedicated to a huge cardio area with bikes, treadmills, stair-masters, ellipticals, and recumbent bikes. You also won’t be alone! I’d say about ½ of the people that I see here are female too– NOT a dudes only gym! The last 1⁄3 of the floor is dedicated to a huge array of cable and track machines of all varieties. If you’re not into free weights but want to have some guided exercise motions to go through, they’ve got a machine for it! Lastly, there’s a huge classroom/ab room with wooden floors completely lined in mirrors and a bike classroom. There’s a variety of classes offered throughout the week so you can find something to help get you fit! So, if you’re thinking about getting on the resolutions but need a place to go get sweaty and you live in the West Ash/Avondale area, reconsider this little gem(literary pun intended!) It’s a whole new experience from what you may have known in the past and worth a second look if you’d written the old ESAC off!!! Bro, do you even lift!!!

This place is terrible. Besides scamming me out of two months of membership(they said I could put my membership on hold when I was out of the country and then refused to honor that agreement later), the place is filthy(hair and grime all over the machines and they never vacuum). It’s also dangerous. Twice I’ve seen them continue to let people use machines for days although they had been told that the cables were fraying and about to break. Who knows how often that has happened. It’s a wonder no one has been seriously injured. I liked this gym okay until ESAC took it over. Now it’s just a dump run by thieves.
