My husband and I dined here to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The wine and bread were excellent but the rest of the meal was a real disappointment. We were seated on the back patio on a chilly night and were near an exit. It was quite drafty and the seats were metal patio furniture which made it difficult to sit up or lean back comfortably. I ordered the special appetizer which was a carpaccio in a cream sauce. It was okay for the price of a regular appetizer 10 – 15 but I got the bill back and it cost 25 dollars. Not that good. I ordered the special pasta which was a lamb ragout over tagliatelle. The pasta was over cooked and the sauce tasted like yesterday’s braised lamb was added to canned tomatoes. My husband ordered the mussels and their smell was just offensive enough to make him careful of eating them. The one redeeming dish we ordered was the beet salad simple oil and vinegar over beets and greens. Not fancy but decent. We decided to give dessert a try. We ordered the tiramisu. I expect a light and fluffy custard alternating with dainty ladyfingers soaked in coffee. What we got was a glutinous brick. It tasted something like rice pudding that passed out and someone threw coffee on it to try and revive it. There are more than a few options for decent Italian in Charleston. I honestly don’t know how this place has made it.

Pane e Vino is one of our favorite restaurants in Charleston. It’s small, charming, relatively quiet and we have consistently had good meals here. We love the calamari appetizer and the lasagna but other appetizers, pastas and entrees have been equally tasty! It’s not an expensive restaurant, especially since we can share, so we go often.

I went here for a girls night with some family & we had reservations for 7PM that were made a month in advance. When we arrived at 6:50, the hostess said they weren’t ready for us and that we were too early in a very rude manner. Looking around the restaurant, there was no room at all for a table of 8 of us since there were already two large parties. They made us wait outside around tables that were eating, which was probably very uncomfortable to them since it was crammed. Around 7 we went inside to ask how long it will be, the owner was extremely rude to us. Although we had an awful experience when we arrived, our waitress was amazing and the food was extraordinary. However, it did not take back how rude the owner was to us and we will not be returning. If there had been any other decent restaurants around there, we would have walked right out. Hopefully the owner realizes how rude he was and won’t be like that to any other customer.

A charming little Italian restaurant in the Upper King area of Charleston. We were there with quite a large party, and shared several of the appetizers. The bruschetta was good. The calamari fritti was great(drizzled with a honey-balsamic reduction). And the funghi fritti(deep fried Shiitake mushrooms with sea salt and truffled Pecorino) were AMAZING. I was satisfied but not blown away by my quite traditional Spaghetti allo Scoglio(with shrimp, scallops, mussels, garlic, sundried tomatoes, and a splash of Pinot Grigio). My boyfriend liked his Gnocchi alla Sorrentina. All in all — a charming Italian restaurant with good ambiance, good service, good wine, and good food!

Pane E Vino provides terrific food in a great atmosphere. There aren’t a lot of tables inside, but the outdoor patio is the star here. They have a long bar outside, and the dim lighting is ideal for nice ambiance. If it’s good weather and not too hot, the patio is the place to be. The complimentary bread basket has focaccia bread and a hard roll, and they serve it with olive oil. The focaccia bread was terrific– we even asked for a refill. The other bread was pretty hard and not that great. For an app, we ordered the smoked mozzarella with mushrooms and arugula, which was tasty. For entrees, we ordered spaghetti checka and the gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce. The spaghetti had nice flavor to it and was pleasantly spicy. However, the gnocchi was the real winner here. It was the perfect texture and came with a great cream sauce. The dessert menu has about 7 options on it, and is geared towards gelato(I saw 3 different desserts based on dark chocolate gelato). We ordered one of them that came in Kahlua sauce and it was very good. Finally, there is a solid wine list with reasonable prices. Service was terrific also. We had a toddler with us and even though they don’t necessarily cater towards kids, the owner and waitress made sure she was set up properly(they do have high chairs). Unfortunately Pane E Vino is not on OpenTable, but you can call or email them for a reservation.

We could not get reservations but were encouraged to sit outside at the bar. The restaurant is on a side street so it was very quiet and the outside seating area was charming – including the bar. They seated us immediately, as it was only around 6 p.m. and they weren’t busy yet. The bartender asked if we were eating as well and immediately gave us menus. However, it took him forever to come take our drink order(I thought that was where the huge profits were, huh…) I figured out quickly where the profit was, $ 20 plus Pasta! I can’t say I was impressed. The pasta dish I ordered tasted basically like beef stroganoff without that type noodle or any meat(was supposed to have a sausage). My husbands ravioli dish(maybe 3 small ravioli) who could tell was drown in a overbearing white sauce. Rather disappointing. For a city with great food, restaurants really have to kick it up if they want to get repeat business.

Oddly food was pretty good but really small portions. Service was amongst the worst I’ve ever gotten. Had to chase people down to place orders, get anything extra, had to ask passers by to take dirty plates. And it took me over2 hours to get 2 drinks and one wasn’t even right. Oh yeh and we must have been there at least 10 min before anyone came to take our drink order to begin with. Even though atmosphere was cozy and food was good, there are too many places with great food, atmosphere, and that have great service in charleston to bother suffering through service this bad ever again!

The service was terrible. Food fair at best. Would not go back. There were 6 of us. None of the dishes or drinks came out at same time. Gratuity added and fir one person a 40% amount.

I am Italian. I lived in New York, Boston, San Francisco and Europe. I love authentic Italian, but am highly critical. People love my kitchen. Since living in SC, i have developed the motto, no OPP, other peoples pasta. I hardly ever write a review. I was deeply impressed with Pane e Vino. Good wine list, not overly marked up. The sharcuterie was to die for. All top quality meats with no cheap fillers. Get the large portion. The pastas are made with fresh ingredients and al dente. Our server Civia, as well as all other staff, were knowledgeable and friendly. The dining room is a set back to the romantic Italian restaurants in Greenwich Village.

This place had the MOSTAMAZING ravioli ever. I cannot remember the name of what I ordered but it had beef, pork, and raisins in the ravioli. It was to die for. Best pasta I have ever had hands down. If you are hungry I would suggest an appetizer as well. Portions are similar to other fine dining establishments and they serve bread before the meal as well. I cannot wait to visit this place again on my next trip to Charleston!

If the chef is from Italy he must have only been born there and certainly not raised there. The food is NOT authentic Italian whatsoever. Chicken Milanese was more like southern fried chicken… and it had no salad on it. Their«Ragu» is an overly sweet red sauce with whatever meat simply added to it as opposed to cooked in it for hours. Their homemade pappardelle was tasteless and had no texture. I just returned from a 2 week trip to Tuscany and thank God the food didn’t taste like this. Will not return.

Tucked away off King Street on Warren, this little gem of a place is rarely talked about among Charlestonians and I was eager to find out why. While it was hard for me to stray away from my two favorite Italian joints in the city, Trattoria Lucca and Indaco, someplace I have never been always deserves at least one trip in my opinion. Upon arriving, I couldn’t believe how quaint and charming the intimate outdoor dining area was, adorned with lights and perfect for a date. I went with my friend and split a bottle of wine, the duck flatbread and ordered the Duck Pasta for my entrée. What can I say– I’m obsessed with Duck lately. Both dishes were disappointingly lacking in flavor, with my pasta doused in a soupy cream sauce that was way off texturally. It’s hard for me to judge the food based off just one trip, but from what I have heard from friends, Pane E Vino is very hit or miss. Our service was ok but my friends have also told me that can be very hit or miss as well. And in a town like Charleston where better Italian joints are within walking distance– hit or miss doesn’t warrant a trip back for me. If the prices were competitive a trip back may be worth it, but considering the appetizers were around $ 13 and pastas around $ 20, my recommendation is to spend a bit extra and have a great Italian meal at Trattoria Lucca or Indaco.

Delicious food, great service, very friendly. Accommodated large party very well. Eggplant appetizer was very good. Lasagna and chicken dinners were terrific. Good wine list with nice price ranges. Outdoor seating looked nice but sat inside due to potential storms — small and authentic italian. Don’t miss this gem.

Pane E Vino was an awesome Italian experience for me and my friends. I loved the intimate environment, as well as the beautiful outdoor seating arrangement! For an appetizer, I had the house-made burrata with arugula. This was the first time I had ever had burrata, so I am probably nostalgically biased, but it was so so SO creamy and good and is still the best burrata I have ever had. For a main course, I had the Papardelle Con L’Anatra which is a papardelle dish with duck and a mushroom sauce. This was the a phenomenal pasta dish and one of many reasons to revisit the beautiful city of Charleston. Up there with Giulia in Cambridge, MA, which won best restaurant of 2014 in Boston Magazine.

If you want the Italian atmosphere, Pane E Vino is a great place to be. The outdoor seating as well as the indoor seating is very peaceful. The ambiance is great. The food is also amazing. This place is definitely a hidden gem and a great place to go on a date.

Absolutely amazing. Alfredo is one of the most engaging genuine owners I have ever met. His heart is in every dish drink and experience. Bravo! My new go to spot! The calamari was crisp and flash fried to perfection followed by a rich and delightful seafood risotto special. Finished with a delicious limoncello and tiramisu. Great friends and food.

Consistently Incredible food. Met the owner. I know why everything is so good. He seems to have a hand in the quality of every dish. So flavorful. Two great things of Italian origin in Charleston. Spoleto festival and Alfredo Temelini of Pano e Vino. Also can eat paleo/primal/gluten free.

We have been going here for years… our fave restaurant that we alway recommend to out of town guests. No more. After about a year away we decided to have a nice and rare dinner date night. So excited and we started off well. The lobster bisque was fantastic. But the Funghi Fritti(deep fried mushrooms) were surprisingly flavorless. We politely expressed our concern to the waitress who offered no real solution or offered something else. We were told the specials(and being frequent patrons we knew the pasta prices were always VERY reasonable). We ordered the special mushroom risotto and another pasta, the carbonara(which as usual was delicious). The risotto was very disappointing. crunchy and lacking ANY flavor. It resembled a boxed five minute rice you’d buy at the store. It was terrible. We also ordered another wine with dinner when the food arrived and proceeded to watch our waitress stand and talk at another table for our ENTIRE entrée meal and she never brought the wine. She said she had forgotten but in fact she was too busy socializing to come back to our table. Being frequent diners we were surprised too that she didn’t return to offer fresh bread, fresh cracked pepper or even water… Finally we received the bill and were very shocked to find the mushroom risotto was $ 25!!! If you are going to offer a mushroom risotto pasta special for 25 friggin’ dollars you should give your patrons a heads up when you explain the specials. I could go a few blocks down to Lana and get a far superior risotto for half that price. We expressed or surprise to the waitress who responded ‘Hey I don’t make the prices’. She then retuned to our table with a nasty attitude and dumped the bill on our table and very curtly said, ‘I took a glass off your bill’ and quickly walked away. There must be some new management at this formerly charming and lovely spot because the food, service and prices were always spot on. What a disappointment after long anticipation to finally come back. I won’t recommend it to anyone now. :(

My friends and I dined here on Saturday night and were extremely disappointed, given the great reviews and the word of mouth this place gets. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend the food or the service, not even the management. We made a reservation for 8:30pm, to sit on the patio. The reservation was for 5 people. We chose the restaurant because of the outdoor seating as well as the supposedly incredible food. We arrived at 8:28pm. When we arrived, the hostess told us she didn’t have a table for us outside, did we want to sit inside. We explained that we chose this restaurant because we could get a table outside. She explained that an earlier party had showed up 1 hour late for their reservation, and so she seated them at our table(instead of explaining that they missed their reservation, as woudl have been proper protocol). She came back a few minutes later and told us she could seat us at a four top. Five people, at a table for four. We declined, because the four top tables actually don’t even look comfortable for four people– we saw that most of them had just two diners at them. We asked if she could put two of the smaller tables together, since there were 4 open on the patio. But she said those were reserved for other parties. She then told us we could wait at the bar, that there were some seats open. But when we got to the bar, there were just two seats, at opposite ends of the bar. We asked to speak with the manager, and the hostess assured us she was the manager. After much eye-rolling and nasty looks as we stood at the bar waiting, she put two tables together and sat us. And then we waited for someone to serve us. And we waited, and waited. Finally, the same manager came over, and told us there wasn’t a server available, they were short that evening. And then proceeded to tell us the specials… And then we waited and waited and waited some more. We asked for some bread, and received four rolls, for five people. When we finally got served, our appetizers came out at different times, waitresses came by with other tables’ orders and tried to serve them to us… it was chaos. The patio itself is lovely and the weather was beautiful and the music was good, but it couldn’t make up for the poor management. More disappointing still, was our food. We started with the BRUSCHETTAALLASICILIANA, which had no basil, oregano, salt, pepper, or garlic… We also got the CHEESEPLATE, served with no mention of what the cheeses were, and the CAPRESE salad, which was the only notable appetizer among the three. Nice sized portion, mozzarella was creamy, tomatoes were seasoned… We got a carafe of house wine, which was a chianti, and it was great. Delicious in fact. Two people in my party got pasta– PAPPARDELLECON L’ANATRA and PAPPARDELLEALL’ ANTICA– the pasta is made fresh from a local shop, and my friends said it was good. Nice sized portions, meat cooked well, adequate sauce… Another person got the COTOLETTAALLAMILANESE, and thought it was delicious. She got it with a side of pasta instead of the mashed potatoes. And then another friend and I split the CIOPPINO for two. It was not something I’d ever recommend. We ordered a side of pasta with it, and were SHOCKED to find that it cost $ 8. That is ludicris. It was boxed spaghetti with flavorless marinara. Total cost to cook– $ 0.65. The didn’t even give us the fresh pasta… The Cioppino itself was the worst cioppino I have ever had. And, it was not two portions– my friend and I left the table still hungry. We had 3 scallops in the entire dish. THREE. Plus, it was flavorless. Not one hint of garlic or spice. It was boiled seafood. We were going to send it back, but there was no waiter or waitress in sight, and the manager was so hostile earlier, we didn’t think she’d take it back. So we walked away hungry. We also didn’t bother with dessert. The meal was so underwhelming, and the service was so subpar, we couldn’t wait to leave. We truly wished we had gone to Indaco instead, which was another recommendation we were considering.
