My family and I are locals from the town over and frequent Hungry Haven on the weekends. We are familiar with the staff and love the service. The atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable. We’ve never experienced a wait over 30 – 45 minutes but if you’re expecting to be seated as soon as you arrive, think again. This place has excellent food and with great food comes a plethora of customers which undoubtedly means there is a 99.99% chance there will be a wait for those who drag their feet and tell friends they aren’t «morning people». Being as this is a smaller, busier restaurant you’re going to have to be an early-bird if you want to have prompt seating, especially during the weekend. As I said before, the menu is excellent. If you decidedly crave something a little sweet that morning, I suggest the stuffed french toast with your choice of fruit,(I chose strawberries). It was superb as expected, of course. But do not fear, if you have thoughts of savory food you will find what you are looking for here as well. For comfort food is this restaurant’s calling and they do not disappoint. Their prices are very much affordable, so your wallet will thank you afterwards. I highly recommend Hungry Haven to visitors near and far.

Real good down home food. Generous portions. Reasonable prices. Friendly service. A little hard to find cause it is set back from the road. Definitely coming back when I am in the area again.

We went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The food was pretty good here however the service was not. I did call ahead here and was told it would be 20 minutes. We arrive 20 minutes later and are told we have 20 more minutes. I wish they just told us 40 minutes on the phone so we could plan ahead. The food also took awhile to come and our server didn’t refill our drinks or check up on us once until it was time to get the check. My family did enjoy their food though. The favorite was the apple crisp French toast — very flavorful. I got the big 2s and didn’t care for it much — home fries were bland, sausage and bacon were good, pancakes were ok, eggs were just ok. Also, the orange juice we ordered was definitely something like Minute Made — they could easily make freshly squeezed OJ. I would recommend to management here to become better at estimating how long the wait will be, figure out a way to get the food to come out sooner, better train your waiters so they give better service.

Delicious late lunch/early dinner on a Friday. Highlights were the sweet potato fries and excellent tuna melt. Also very tasty was the prime rib sandwich. Pleasant, attentive waitress. The place is small with not much in the way of atmosphere, but food is yummy.

We came here for lunch and my crew had a variety of meals(some breakfast and some lunch). Everything was great. Food came out fast, you can see the kitchen staff cooking your meals which is neat. Our server was very attentive and quick with the coffee refills. The whole place had a team atmosphere and the place ran like clockwork. This is really a gem of a place. My only criticism is the noise level, they had their radio on pretty loud and just the acoustics of the place make it seem like everyone is yelling. But, it’s not enough of an issue for me to take away a star. Just an FYI if you are looking for a quiet place to talk, this probably won’t work.

Whenever we come to see family in RI, it wouldn’t feel complete without at least one breakfast at the HH. While we’ve been coming here for years the meal I get 99% of the time is breakfast item #7, aka«sausage biscuits w gravy» with 2 eggs to order and home fries that put to shame all other potatoes masquerading as home fries. Rochelle, who is usually on duty when we’re there makes us feel welcome like old friends. The only weak spot would be the coffee, which, although is fresh tends to be invariably weak. But since we’re treated as valued old friends I have hesitated to say anything. Overall it’s a throwback to simpler times when most people were polite with each other, and the food was honest American fare. Definitely EATHERE!

We frequent Hungry Haven for breakfast whenever we are in the area. The food is inexpensive and they have a huge variety of menu items. The portions are big and the staff is a well oiled machine. It is not a fancy place, but the food is well prepared.

I always drive by here when I’m heading to the fantastic umbrella factory. I finally decided to check it out, a small but very busy restaurant during the weekend is very busy so you might have to wait a bit before you can sit. Their is a couple other small businesses in the vacinity. I had ordered the prime rib au jus which is a favorite samich of mine to eat. They also serve Pepsi products so that made my day. If you in the area try this place out

Stopped on the way back from the beach we had a special of prime rib & baked stuffed shrimp. Pretty crowded and the service was slow but overall it was good. Oh yeah and it’s a byob!

I moved to Charlestown in May, but due to the summer tourists just now got around to trying the Hungry Haven. Despite the crowds dissipating we still had a slight wait, but definitely nothing compared to peak season.(FYI there’s no room to wait inside, so you may want to reconsider on a cold/rainy day although there are covered areas outside.) When going somewhere new for breakfast I try to find an item on the menu that isn’t typically found at other diners which led me to order the chili omelette with home fries and toast. I was not disappointed! The chili was flavorful and omelette was so large I only ate half. I can’t wait to go back and try something else!

Good brunch/lunch spot. New England chowder was tasty. Small restaurant, but on peak days it gets hopping. Not a fancy place. Just a place for good food.

We went to eat here because it was recommended by someone we knew. The 3 of us had a basic breakfast of eggs, bacon, pancakes, homefries and toast. My girlfriends comes out with no meat, and the wrong pancakes. I told the server this and he says okay and goes to re=order it. I tell him that it’s also missing the bacon, and it should be two pancakes instead of. Basically he tells me I’m wrong and she ordered the wrong thing. He re-orders that as well. The reason I am writing this is whether or not she did order the wrong thing I am not sure, but to stand there and seem like we are bothering you, and make us feel uncomfortable is impolite. The food is nothing to write home about, but there are a lot of regulars eating there. I probably would try it again, but order something else.

Came here last week for breakfast. The banana bread french toast was delicious. I also got some hashbrowns ala cart and was kinda underwhelmed. For the price it needed to be either a bigger portion or have a little spice or something! Basically just boiled potato that has been tossed on the griddle. Pretty typical dinner atmosphere with friendly, attentive service, but small enough that during busy times it gets a bit noisy. (three stars) *Update* Went again today since Gentlemen Farmer seemed to be closed. They had some items for Saint Patrick’s day like Corned Beef Hash. My friend got some of that with her Tuscan French toast(which was very good she said) and let me have some. The Corned beef hash had some spice to it and was really tasty! I had a Portuguese Omelet and it was great! I’m going to bump this place up a star.

Came here for the first time last Thursday.(10 – 24) Greeted right away by the one man show waiting the tables. He was great! Not too busy. Simple interior as has been mentioned but our food was very good. Wife had the Breakfast Burrito, no Jalapeño peppers and I had the meat omelet. Great breakfast potatoes. On the Ball Service! Took a walk to Simple Pleasures next door after breakfast. All sorts of neat knick-knacks. That was our original trip but looking for breakfast nearby found out about the Hungry Haven. BTW– As mentioned before, just Hungry Haven. No Phil’s.

This is definitely one of those awesome diner dives! Nothing fancy here, just damn good food. I went for the Lobsta Eggs Benedicts and it was amazing. Sauce on the side of course. Every time I come up here, we always have to plan to get here REALLY early. Every local within 20 miles seems to also think this is a great place for breakfast. So in order to beat the crowd on a weekend, you have to get there before 0900. Once you get there early, they can definitely accommodate a group of 6 or more. The food is excellent and cheap, definitely worth your time here.

We went for breakfast here the other day due to the location, it’s very close by. It was completely packed but they were able to accommodate us rather quickly which was a plus. It was very loud which is another plus because we had our three children with us. It always nice to not have to worry about people looking over every time our baby makes a peep. These were really the only positives about our visit. They had a balloon guy there making animals out of balloons for the children. I have two problems with this, first we do not let our small children play with balloons they are extremely dangerous! I personally know someone who had a six year old die from choking on a piece of balloon. Once a piece is lodge in a small child’s throat death is unavoidable, there is no removing it or any way at all to save the child. Most people don’t know this fact. It is this reason my children absolutely do not play with them. This made it extremely difficult and uncomfortable for my husband and I when the balloon man approached. On the second issue, which is very concerning, the balloon man was letting small pieces of the balloons fly off. It was all in fun but what if a small piece landed in a child’s food? As far as I was concerned this was a major risk and extremely dangerous. Call me paranoid but I much rather be safe than sorry. All it would take is for my child to not notice a small balloon piece, eat it, choke and die. And nevermind the nasty germs on a ballon piece in your meal. No thanks. My husband did get a flyaway piece in his food and didn’t eat that portion of the food. The breakfast itself was alright and certainly nothing to write home about. The French toast was dry and lacking flavor, everything else was mediocre. I don’t think a restaurant is a proper place for a balloon guy, at least not inside of the establishment. It’s also dangerous. I have given two stars instead of one considering the fact that mr balloon man probably isn’t always there. There is a possibility that the food could be better at a second visit but then again, maybe not. Eat here at your own risk, literally.

We have been here for breakfast about 5 times — and we are ready to go again! They have great potatoes — so delish! Their signature breakfast item(as far as I’m concerned) is the banana bread french toast. It melts it your mouth. Wait staff is friendly. The place is small — and not much ambiance — but who cares about that anyway. Get here before 9 on the weekends — unless you’re prepared to wait!
