Haven’t been since the late 80s. I like what they’ve done with the place! The fries are Rhode Island’s best! I won’t wait 25+ years to come back.

NEVERCOMINGBACKTOTHISPLACEEVER!!! SPREADTHEWORD… such a ripoff as well. I thought be nice to try something new for my mother’s birthday. I ordered the duck and sausage. Horrible and dry as hell no meat on their as well. My mom got a fettuccine in clams. obviously the clams were canned you can tell and just a bunch of pasta swimming in canned clam juice which was disgusting we all got sick all 4 of us. This place is only cut out for doing Burgers simple American food and maybe a hot dog it’s no place to go to spend any real money on food stay away. telling all my friends. I give it a half a star but there’s no option for that I don’t think. 1 star for the pretty waitress If you want to get sick… go here… barf

We have been coming to the Charlestown area for at least 15 years, but only found out about the Rathskeller recently. Food is very good, service as well. My favorite is the lobster bisque and my only complaints are; the bisque is not on the regular menu and unless you go early or late you are in for a wait.

The truffle fries lived up to their expectations/legendary status! That being said, the other dishes we ordered weren’t that great, we tried the Thai noodles(special) but the sauce was just too heavy. Our salads followed(2x Cobb), and same story there, just mounds of dressing. I guess there are those who like the heavier portions of gravy/sause/dressing/etc, but unfortunately that’s not our style. Will be giving it another chance in the summer months when it’s a bit warmer! In the end, we do reccomend giving Rathskeller a try!

Love this place. The food is so good, and I look forward to coming to the woods as often as I can. Their specials are usually interesting too! I’ve never had a bad experience, but I stick with 4 stars because it’s a little cramped. Sit outside if the weather is nice!

I love the bar at this restaurant. I go here for drinks on occasion no matter what day of the week. Their late night menu comes in handy when you find yourself craving some munchies while having a few drinks at the bar with some friends. Popcorn is served around midnight for free! I love getting the pretzel. The Moscow mule is served with a cool mug/cup that you can take home with you as a souvenir. The beer is probably their best feature at the bar. They have a great variety on draft that are served extremely chilled. Located on the wall high behind the bar is a digital reading of the temperature of the beer. It usually reads from 28 – 32 degrees. The only down side to the mixed cocktails here are the pours. Sometimes they can be a little inconsistent. The regular dinner menu is amazing as well. I usually order the black bean burger that is served with French fries which are actually made in house. I recommend checking out the menu online. They have a great amount of choices to choose from and it is a great place to go with a family or even just as a couple. The owners are very friendly as well. I believe they have call ahead seating, which I recommend taking advantage of on a Friday or Saturday night. Over the summer they have a great amount of outdoor seating and activities that you can partake in. Enjoy!

Pretty cool spot out in the middle of nowhere, I can see why it would be good for those who live out here. Drinks were good, burgers were mediocre

Nice lunch today. Delicious flounder and chips. Loved the pub fries. Wife had a shaved steak sandwich and raved about it. Our bartender was charming and the manager made a point of greeting us. All in all, 5 stars.

Its a place that is in the middle of the woods with a wait on most nights. That tells you something. I live local and usually prefer my own food, but when you want a big burger and homemade fries, this place is great. The small fries is more than enough for two. Order then extra crispy or they can be a bit soft. They are known for their cold beer, but i am not a beer person. You can order your drinks in a tall glass, which might be more mixer or double alcohol I am not sure. But I order that each time. The bar and restaurant can be loud, but still a great atmosphere. Summer time is out of control with an outside patio, bar, horse shoe pits, and fire pits.

I went to Rathskeller on Friday for a late dinner. We ordered Truffled Pecorino Fries — they’re delicious and something we order every time we go. We also ordered the Burrata Cheese Crostini — another dish that we’ve grown to love. The service and drinks were equally good. This makes up for the ridiculous wait when a few of us tried to go last month. This is what happened the previous time: we were told that the wait time would be about 30 minutes. After an hour wait, the hostess told us it was because we had an odd number of people: 5. A group of 8 had walked in long after we arrived, without calling in and they were seated immediately. That rubbed us all the wrong way and we eventually ended up leaving and going to the Breachway Grill.

Awesome short rib gravy FF, get the small. .I can’t imagine how big the large is, plus stuffed mushrooms are yummy too. Bartender is very personable. Definitely a locals joint. Place is super clean. We will be back!

I remember going to this place when I was really little… probably like 5. I thought it was weird that it was just out in the middle of the woods. Fast forward to now! The new owners have done an awesome job bringing the place back. Its a beautiful spot! We had the lobster bites and Garlic Parmesan wings to start. The lobster bites were like clam cakes… but with lobster, topped with a honey something something sauce. Very Tasty. The wings were awesome. Crispy with roasted garlic! All 4 of us got the reuben. That should say something. The corned beef is sliced thin, piled stupidly high and is tender. Its everything a reuben should be. Damn thing might have a pedigree. Order a stack of fries and a Moscow Mule… but don’t steel the mug, ya jerks.

We liked the décor here and the service was friendly, but the food was not good. This is the first time I have had brown lobster bisque, not very appealing. I didn’t finish it. My friend said the Caesar salad tasted like nothing, and the pretzel was ok but the dips that came with it were gross. Who eats pretzels with bbq sauce anyway? We had a couple beers and that was fine but I thought there would be more German/Belgian beers on the menu. It is out of the way so I would probably not go back unless there was an event going on.

I came in for the first time last night off a recommendation from a friend. We were told that there is generally a wait(which is a good thing) but we were able to be seated almost right away. They have several sizes to coincide with their wide ranging beer selection and each beer came out ice cold. We ordered a soft pretzel for an app and the mustard that came with it was delicious and super spicy. The fish and chips and pasta fresco that my friends ordered looked really good. I had a thai-ginger chicken wrap that was wrapped with lettuce instead of bread. It was a cool concept and it was much lighter and airier then a normal wrap. The only thing I was confused about was the french fries. Everyone there raved about them. I ordered a plain mini fry and didn’t find anything special with it. Next time, I’ll have to try the truffle ones. Maybe they’ll change my mind.

When you’re driving through the dark, lightless, and forested roads of South County, you don’t quite expect a large and lively looking establishment like Rathskellers to suddenly illuminate the surroundings. But that’s exactly what this bar does. Situated in what almost seems like the middle of no where, it’s a little like a small adventure to get here. But once you arrive, you’re in store for a good time – and probably a bit of a wait if you’re looking for a table. Rathskeller does do this cool thing where you can call ahead and be put into a waiting list. So then the wait wouldn’t be that long. Once you get inside though, you have a great range of food(restaurant and bar options) and drinks. I’ve only sat on their bar side so I’ll report on that. It’s a lively area with large flat-screen TV’s brightening up the walls, streaming whatever sports or news is on. Accompanying the screens is also a funny collection of taxidermy: deer heads, black bears, little rodents, greenery(okay that’s not taxidermy, but it creates the scenes). I’ve tried their famous fries with delicious gravy. Word to the wise, a plate of that is big enough for at least two, maybe even 3 people. Wow. But pretty satisfying. They also have pretty delicious oysters from their raw bar. They also have a decent amount of beers to choose from with different sizes. It’s not as big of a variety as say Mews or The Malted Barley per se, but it’s still a good variety. My favorite part of Rathskeller’s though is their outdoors area. They have room for 3 horseshoe lanes, a lane of bocci, picnic tables and patio bar seating galore. And then further out there’s a large fire pit surrounded by chairs, a small outdoor stage, and then a cash bar! Continuing on an interesting trend, Rathskeller is a family friendly bar. Last time I went, I noticed that whatever families came with kids, all the children were gathered in and around the sand volleyball court all playing with each other while the adults all relaxed in the outdoor stage area and fire pits. Really quite awesome.

Had a great night! Due to call ahead we did not have to wait long for a table. Got the loaded fries for an app and the fish and chips for dinner. Both were great! They make a mean Moscow mule but be forewarned. They take your ID to ensure they get their copper cup back! Totally worth it.

No. Just, no. We went for fish and chips last night due to the fact the another restaurant in Charlestown was fresh out. Our waitress spilled an entire tray of drinks(or first drinks before we had ordered) all over my mother, she was completely soaked from head to toe on one side of her body! My sister’s shoes and mine were completely drenched in red wine also. And my 100% leather purse was splashed along the side leaving marks. We were not even offered a free beverage or any compensation at all. Not even my poor mother who was drenched in red wine was offered a drink for the inconvenience. We were nice about it when we could have caused a stink, but out of the five people in our party ALL of us have been in the restaurant industry, two currently still are servers. Just because we didn’t freak out doesn’t mean we should not have been compensated even a tiny bit or even offered a compensation, we would have likely refused anyway. I mean at least a drink for the person that wore the beverages would have been a classy and professional gesture. Bottom line — they should be ashamed of themselves for not offering to take an order of fries off the bill, I mean how much could fries possibly cost to make? Give away a potato to let your customers know you’re sorry you soaked them? No, not the Rathskeller. Instead, here are some cheap bathroom, brown kraft paper, non-absorbant, crispy paper towels for you to attempt to dry your feet and sandals with. Enjoy your mediocre food and have a splendid wine-soaked night! We will absolutely never be back.

Speak easy The Rathskeller restaurant was first started in 1933 but before that the building had quite a reputation as a speak easy during the probation era. All kinds of stories about vast amounts of booze going through here, all illegally of course. The original Rathskeller had great food but was a dark and pretty scruffy looking place. Being in the middle of the RI woods probably didn’t help. For some reason the restaurant closed in around the year 2000 or so and remained closed for over ten years. The restaurant opened again about in 2013 and was extensively renovated and cleaned up. I sort of miss the dark and scruffy feel but there is no doubt that the new look is pleasant. Still has the wood beams and cool archaic atmosphere, but now is much brighter and cheerier. The strange kind of pseudo vaudeville art looks a bit out of place and forced but the rest of the interior is quite lovely. Of course the main reason for a restaurant to exist is the food and the food here is still superb. Quite a diverse menu, with conventional burgers and the like as well as some great seafood. To finish off your meal there are massive and wonderful desserts. The venerable old building has seen lots of changes over the decades, some good and others not so good. But new incarnation of the Rathskeller is apparently working out pretty well judging from the crowds on most nights. A cool restaurant with a lot of history that is worth the effort to find.

Great place just off the beaten path with great food, spirits, atmosphere and open space. Upon approaching it the size will fool you. It’s bigger than it appears to be inside and done just right. The bar is separate from the dining area so no real noise from the bar. Outside patio is nice and most tables have an umbrella though some don’t. Found that kinda strange but hey to each their own right. Bar is big and roomy and bartenders are friendly and polite and have many suggestions if your not sure of what u want. Just be prepared to give your ID if you want a Moscow mule for the copper cup it comes in. Imagine that people steal the cups lol. The bar has a very wide range of different spirits and whiskeys which I love since many don’t. The burgers are great here and come just how u asked for them and cooked to your liking. Not loaded with fries thank God and they even make there own chips. It’s restored nice inside for such an old building and love the décor in the place. From the wooden beams exposed to the bear on the wall. Will definitely be back for more and you should to.
