went here on a Thursday after work. Three reasons to like the pub: it’s really dark in the bar, sizable patio with corn hole, and when we went, they were promoting a new Guinness beer so we got a couple free beers! The bar tenders were great and attentive, didn’t feel the need to chat with you which I like. Only gripe I have is that they only have one bathroom for each gender.

The smell of urine when you walk in is overwhelming. And the Jersey — boy bartenders have major attitude. NOTANAUTHENTICIRISHBAR, BYANYMEANS. Just a bunch of frat boys. Save yourself the trouble and go to RiRa; the bartenders there are nice and IRISH!

Great atmosphere. Anyone who has been to the UK will appreciate it. A proper pub mate! Staff engages just enough. Can’t wait to watch FOOTIE or a rugby match there!

Whether it’s your first stop or your last this bar has one of those cheers types of feels… you know… everybody knows your name! Familiar faces and good staff, you always feel at home here. A bit dark but always a good crowd to liven it up. Great service and plethora of liquor or tasty local or Irish beers. I must admit there are not many nights where I don’t end up here before heading home. For anyone new to the area this a staple for your uptown pleasure. Slainte

So, it has probably been more then 5, maybe 10, years since I have been to Connolly’s. So, all I can say is if you are looking to be young ago, in your 20s, and enjoy being crammed in a small space, bumped by everyone around you, and cheap drinks, this is your spot. We were out after dinner, hitting some spots, and decided to stop in. And, I know why I haven’t been in so long. The place was so packed you cannot even here yourself think, here anything anyone around you are saying, and the drinks weren’t that great. Not my thing, maybe I am just too old.

Small bar area with top notch«barmen» standing at the ready. We were there on a Friday afternoon but were able to belly up.

Fuck this place, use to come here all the time when I lived here, now on Halloween they kick us out after we spent over 100 plus dollars because someone thought we flicked the bartender off. They try and surround my group of four and tell us we have to leave and I calmly ask what the problem was and explaining that we just drop a hundred dollars at your bar but the asshole bartender said he didn’t care and called his meat head buddy over to try and remove us. Form the time we entered the bar till they tried to remove us was less than 10 minutes for this whole thing to go down. Iv worked in F&B for 15 years and have never as a patron been treated in that way by an establishment before. You don’t kick out someone just because you think someone flicked you off. The costumer comes first over your own personal insecurity. I was very polite and told the bartender we would leave because we didn’t want any trouble but he preceded on grabbing the bouncer and putting hand on me and my friends over a alleged middle finger. Never again well I spend money in this establishment. Drink at your own risk!

After bar hopping all night we made our way to Connolly’s. This was the first bar to ask for a cover. Their response to my surprised face was that it was the best place in town and I’d be happy I went there. To me it was like any other bar; dark, full of people, and lots of beer. They did have a nice outdoor area. Some was covered, and there was seating available. There was also a small outdoor bar, but it only takes cash. While we had fun because we were out as a group, I wouldn’t pay $ 5 to get in when there are so many bars without covers around.

Favorite place to go to uptown during the week. Great bar staff, fun atmosphere, and one of the best patios in Charlotte. This place stays true to the Irish culture.

To steal a few lines from Flogging Molly’s Float — «Drank away the rest of the day Wonder what my liver would say Drink, that’s all you can»… It’s Connolly’s, all you can do here is drink. It’s perfect! Cool, dark, little Irish pub with a great patio area. Good size bar when you first come in. It can get crowded in here. There’s a second bar area upstairs. Nice beer selection and of course some Guinness on draft. They don’t serve food. Anytime I’m out in the Uptown area I try to stop by for a pint.

Connolly’s on Fifth is an Irish themed bar. I met up with some friends who picked the place. Immediately walking in you are struck by a smell. It just smells like a dirty bar and that everything is soaked in stale beer. Basically, like a frat house. The downstairs bar area is pretty small and so it can be pretty crowded. Luckily by the time I got there my friends had already arrived and snagged a table outside. The staff are OCD about glasses outside here. I am not kidding when I say that if you finish your drink and put it down on a table, they are picking it up within a minute. While it is nice that they keep it cleared, it got to be a little over kill. With them even picking up your glass before you done and«checking» to see if it was empty. I don’t know if they run short on glasses or if they are worried about glass outside. If they’re worried about glass outside they just need to switch to plastic then. The outside patio had a covered area with TV’s and opened to a larger uncovered patio. Lots of tables and benches or chairs. They even had corn hole. The crowd at Connolly’s on Fifth was a mix of younger and older. The vibe felt kind of lame, it wasn’t for me.

This is a great traditional Irish pub in Uptown Charlotte. Feels like you’re in Ireland! 7 days a week, friendly Irish staff, dark lighting, and a Guinness pour that cannot be topped! I love this spot! **They don’t serve food, just so you know.

Great place to get a drink and have a good time with friends. It’s mostly the outside area that people go to. The bar tenders are funny as heck and there are plenty of screens with all kinds of sports to keep you entertained. I first went there with some of the coworkers from a previous employer. Didn’t really stay for that long back then so had nothing to say. But tonight, it was just friends and a lot of fun! I could have even played the corn hole they have in one corner, but no one in my crew wanted to. Oh, yeah, they have Mecktoberfest. Go have fun!

This to me is about the experience if you are with friends, otherwise it is small crowded areas and little air conditioning. Upstairs and outside areas are tight too. It’s really a 30ish looking crowd and most of the beer is mainstream, so they have cocktail specials most every night. It is loud and there’s alot of staff around but it takes them a while to get to you, I did not notice anyone eating anything so it’s bacically and drinking establishment. I’d bring my friends here on St. Patrick’s day but it’s not my fave.

When I’m out and people ask for advice about where they should go next, I send them here. I love this place. It could be packed or completely empty… doesn’t matter. I always have a good time. Sober or drunk. Yes, I have in fact been here sober. Go ahead, bring the jokes. Connolly’s is like a family. Many of the bartenders have worked here for years. They are all super friendly and damn good at slinging drinks. These are the same masterminds involved in Tyber Creek, Dandelion and Prohibition. They know what they’re doing. The patio is huge. Perfect for after work cocktails or Sunday funday. Cornhole, tables, TVs. Pick your poison. Speaking of poison, if you’re in the mood for a car bomb… go here to get it. And be sure to buy me one. Fridays and Saturdays you can typically expect a cover. It’s usually just $ 5. You’ll find that at several bars in uptown. I’m happy this uptown staple is not only still kicking it, but also remains one of the most popular watering holes in Center City. I know I don’t have to say this, but don’t ever change Connolly’s.

I don’t know what it is, but there’s just something about Connolly’s that says, «Classic Charlotte». Maybe its the fact that this is a place where locals have been coming on Friday and especially Saturday nights, for a long, long time. Maybe its the chill, outdoor patio area. Maybe its the friendly, sociable crowd and bartenders you are sure to find here. Maybe, its the stiff, cold cocktails that taste soo good on hot summer nights. Maybe its the fact that they both start with C’s. Maybe I’m just a lush. Maybe you are. I don’t know what it is, but there is just something soooo Charlotte, sooo Queen City about Connolly’s. I dunno, maybe its just a Charlotte thing…
